This purchase came in very handy in keeping my board grandkids happy and quiet while they were being baby sitted. Was a great price too.

Well, here I am playing a game aimed at kids and wondering why I’m not thoroughly enjoying myself. Am I dumb? What, exactly, was I expecting from Rampage: Total Destruction that I didn’t get? How come I’m not in love?In the end I’m simply a victim of nostalgia marketing; those who got burned by the Star Wars prequels will know what I’m talking about. We bought a product that we thought was geared at those of us who loved the original, but was in fact a product aimed at our kids and simply packaged in a way to sell it twice: once to your average 9 – 12 year-old video gaming kid and again to that kid’s 24 – 35 year-old parent or guardian or what have you, the one who played the original. It’s a sneaky trick and we keep falling for it. (also, I’m a little dumb)I’m being too harsh, of course. I should know better by now, and it’s not like Total Destruction isn’t any fun at all. It’s a loud, fast paced, acrade feeling smash-a-thon with fun animations and decent creature design (40 different unlockables all told, including the big three: George, Lizzie & Ralph). The visuals are flashy and the audio is erractic and eclectic; all pretty obviously and successfully designed to grab and hold the attention of some young kids who eat too much sugar. It’s a pretty honest, modern update of the old school formula: break buildings and try not to get shot to death in the process. But… well, without being too picky (I am NOT the target audience, afterall) it’s got two very OBVIOUS AND.

There’s not a whole lot of content but it’s a good time waster. I really love playing this game and the others in the series. It includes some of them as mini games. The unlock able monsters are a nice touch as well. It gets very repetitive after a while though so be forewarned. The power ups are a nice touch as well. The BasicsIn this game you play as a monster created by Scum Labs where you destroy cities for revenge and free other monsters. The goal of the game is to cause as much destruction as possible and in order to go forward you must completely wipe out the city in the stage your given. What I don’t like about this game is that there’s not as many stages like the original games. It makes it kind of boring that your limited to certain things and the stages them selves are so much more smaller. I feel like they could have really beefed this game up but they failed to do so.The controls on this version are awful unless you use the nunchuck controller. If you have a GameCube I suggest buying the GameCube version of this.

No complex strategies, no game lore, nothing educational: just pure destruction. My 10 year old and his pals enjoyed it immensely. It is only cartoon violence of the Bugs Bunny/Road Runner variety, so don’t worry about warping a kid’s mind too much.

I love this game. It’s so much fun and the step-kids love it too. Fun for adults and kids. It’s a great addition to the Rampage family, pretty nice graphics and lots of monsters to chose from. I also like that it comes with all the other incarnations of Rampage including the original arcade version. Good times. One tip: Play using the nunchucks, makes gameplay so much easier.
