Theatre Review: This film is far more than a mere reboot or remake. I saw it in 3-D and I as well as the people around me were jumping and flinching throughout the movie as object after object came zooming out at us. The film has a solid script, fine acting, and CGI effects the likes of which stand at the very pinnacle of this genre. This may be the most credible and "three dimensional" Kong ever presented from the standpoint of his size, strength, actions, behavior, and appearance. While the story does follow several tried and true as well as predictable paths, the way that many of the would be hunters are dispatched is brought to a new level of gore and, combined with the intensity of this film, is not for the squeamish. The movie begins with same kind of rationale that was seen at the beginning of the Godzilla reboot for the South Pacific atomic testing of the early 1950s. But, from then on nothing is like the latter. Indeed, Kong makes a very early appearance and one need not wait until you are 60% or more into this film for it to happen. The setting on Skull Island is far superior to the California civic setting of Godzilla and far deadlier and forbidding. Kong’s creature opponents alone make this film more sinister and exciting – and help to elevate the special effects to a whole new level. The balance between Kong’s "humanity" and his "monster side" is perfectly done. While Samuel L. Jackson’s character does tend to chew up the scenery he is neces.

Nice plot. Great actors. Loved Kong’s personality in this movie and for once he doesn’t get killed. A nice change for Kong. A good watch over and over again type of movie.

Well done , great cast, and was excited to see the continued development of Monarch from the 2017 Godzilla reboot as Legendary’s Monsterverse seemingly has sequels in the making…make sure to watch past the end credits… you’ll see teaser of the interrogation / meeting at the very end and the cave paintings of Godzilla fighting some other creatures from my younger days as a kid watching "Creature Double Feature on Saturdays, WLVI channel 56…man am I getting old… Rodan , Mothra, King Ghidera ( Toho Japan owns the rights and development of these creatures) Happy to see Skull Island pay homage to the original King Kong where there was a similar creature ( Skullcrawlers) climbing up a cliff in the old black and white version..two legged long tailed creature….. Kong wrapped in the anchor chain , symbolic of him being chained up in NYC in previous versions, and lots of other homage to Apocalypse Now cinematography, the Helicopters in formation against the sun, and Samuel L Jackson revisiting a line from Jurassic Park " Hold on to your butts", All in all, a very well down, powerful movie and tribute to the King of the Apes. I would have liked to see a little more character development but Warner Bros and Legendary are focusing on developing Monarch and the Monsterverse. A total must see if you’re a Kong fan and Godzilla fan…again, pay attention to the post credits scene with Tom Hiddleston and Brie Larson. You’ll think that it’s a sinister scene yet it’s the s.

If I’m being honest, what I was expecting was the usual action/adventure fare with the added bonus of a giant monster and lots of CGI effects. It’s a genre that I consider to be one of my guilty pleasures. I was very pleasantly surprised when I found I was watching a movie that had some character development for its main cast, a plot that managed to engage even though it contained the tiresome we-must-cross-a-vast-distance-beset-by-beasties trope, CGI effects that worked quite well for the overwhelming majority of the film, and Tom Hiddleston cast as an action hero even though he isn’t a musclebound athlete… and that actually worked for me. My issues with ‘Kong: Skull Island’ would be that Kong himself got little screen time and there were far too many bit characters whose sole role appeared to be getting bumped off. We didn’t need that many dead people to achieve the desired effect on either survivors or the audience. It was a bit disappointing to see the juvenile mindset of ‘more bodies equals more excitement’ being played out in an otherwise good action/adventure film. But aside from that… Bravo.

Remember in 2005, when Peter Jackson made King Kong the biggest, baddest ape ever by having him go toe-to-toe with three T-rexes? Well that big gorilla better move over, because THIS Kong is the new king.A monster movie and proud of it, "Kong: Skull Island" really lives up to its name, as we follow a group of likable – if not slightly underdeveloped – characters to an uncharted island, where they are quickly introduced to the BIGGEST Kong ever put to film, along with a harrowing variety of other giant monsters. Split up and with a few days to go before planned rescue arrives, our tiny human visitors find themselves on the menu for just about everything in sight, and their only hope to survive may rest with the very beast that stranded them. With Samuel L. Jackson as a war colonel with a thirst for revenge, John Goodman as a ridiculed lone survivor, Brie Larson as an adventurous photographer, and John C. Reilly as a WW2 veteran, the star-studded cast makes for a fun ensemble, and though the storytelling and characters may only ever feel secondary . . . . well, that’s because they ARE secondary. This is Kong’s movie, and in case you’re not convinced of just how badass he is, believe me, he makes DAMN sure you’re convinced by the end.Brimming with spectacle and amazing special effects, this new entry in Legendary’s planned "Monsterverse" wisely avoids making itself an obvious setup piece, instead taking its chance to deliver nothing less than what you want from a.

This is our favorite movie from the Kong universe. It is action-packed and exciting!

I like the drama, and the visuals of the monsters were amazing. The story could have been better. It was sort of predictable, so no 5th star. If anything, you can to stare at Tom Hiddleston for 2 hours, which is always a bonus.

  8. Troy

Great action, great special effects, some good character, some not so great characters and mostly good acting through out. Some plot flaws, but over all a fun movie to watch. I am looking forward to the two KINGS battling.

Kong Awesome movie of 2017. Great special effects, great actors, brie Larson, Samuel Jackson, oreilly, Loki lol. I thought it was treat especially with full surround and on my huge 4k tv.tue huge spider was tricky. Can’t wait for next Godzilla and Kong in their monster unive4se.

  10. Sakiko Kawaguchi

this is the first movie of King Kong as a hero. he did a good job of protecting his territory. although the natives do not speak, they seem to understand kong.
