My son and I have been working with this game for a few days now and we both love it. The game is just that- it is a game. However, as a game it is the perfect medium for us to learn to play the guitar together. The game keeps it fun and we maintain a conviction to stick with it even when it is frustratingly hard. I have always wanted to learn to play the guitar but I have never been able to discipline myself enough to sit for hours on end picking at the strings in an attempt to learn the basics. This game is a game-changer in that respect. I should note that I tried to use my acoustic guitar to no avail. The game does NOT recognize the pitch of the acoustic and therefore is incompatible with anything other than an electric guitar. I have an expensive pick-up and acoustic guitar and yet there are people on here with cheap crap saying they can play this game with their acoustic. I don’t know how that is being done but just to give you a heads up I couldn’t do it and this game is not designed for acoustic.

Overall, I love the game, the game play, and the fact that I can pick up a real guitar for it all. My biggest issues with the game are the fact that my HD TV lags on the sound (a problem that is given full attention by the game makers, complete with guides for ideal setup), so this is not a complaint aimed at the game. However, the fact that I am having to deal with it is an unexpected problem that keeps me from playing as often as I would like. The largest issue, which I will have to deal with, is the new cable provided with the game is already shorting at the guitar end. This is hugely aggravating, and I expect to have to send it in for a replacement. Other than those two problems, the game itself is freakin’ awesome! I highly recommend it to the new player wanting to learn as well as the old rusty players like me who haven’t picked up their axe in years. Nice to get back to it!

I have a copy of the original Rocksmith, Rocksmith Guitar & Bass and Rocksmith 2014. While Rocksmith 2014 is by far the faster and more user friendly system it doesn’t have the slick graphics and gritty feel of the original Rocksmith. I use RS 2014 on most days now but still go back to RS Guitar and Bass on occasion. Although the set list is more expansive in RS 2014 you can’t bring forward the songs from the original RS or RS G & B. At least I haven’t figured out how to do it.The original Rocksmith and RS G &B are agonizingly slow compared to 2014. It loads at least five times as fast but at the sacrifice of graphics. I really like the ability to build a continuous set list which allows you to go through the songs you like for as long as you like. This is a huge leap forward from RS G & B or the original. RS 2014 seems to be a bit sluggish in the way the algorithm increases the difficulty of play. By sluggish I mean it seems to hold at the 20% mark for an excessively long time even with 90% accuracy and then jumps to a much higher level of difficulty. I really like the ability to manually increase the level of difficulty but in many cases increasing the level of difficulty doesn’t equate well to the actual difficulty of play.

This is a wonderful way to learn guitar. I took lessons when I was a teenager, but never really got anywhere with it. My guitar sat unused in the corner of my bedroom for half a lifetime, until a couple years ago I decided to give it another shot. I had heard of the Rocksmith series and thought it was a stroke of genius. Nearly anybody that has played Guitar Hero, or watched somebody who was really good at it has thought "why not just learn to play a real guitar?" That’s what we have here, and it’s very well done. This is more an interactive training tool than a game, exactly, but the "game" elements give practicing a hook that really helps motivate you. People love scoring points. You could practice a song for hours and get better but in your mind, it might feel like you’ve done nothing an seem like a waste of time, but watching how your score goes up gives you a tangible, objective measure of your improvement. But you aren’t just thrown into a song and expected to know what to do, the game has traditional "lessons" built in to help teach you concepts, and then tests you with actual play. Most importantly, and impressively, the game dynamically adjusts its difficulty. This is the coolest feature by far. While in most games you have your choice of "Easy, Normal, Hard," in this game, each segment of a song is basically assigned it’s own difficulty level. When you first play a song, you might only need to hit one note at a time, which is great for.

I bought this as an aid to learn the guitar (like most people who buy this, duh) and I’m quite impressed so far. Once I got my audio/video setup squared away and got rid of the lag, this ‘game’ is really fun…and helpful.I’m not TOTALLY new to playing a guitar but I’m still very VERY much a beginner and this game is just what I needed. There are tons of lessons ranging from ‘How to hold your guitar’ all the way up to things like ‘Pinch Harmonics’ and even more advanced techniques.I haven’t played this much yet (maybe 10 hours) but I can already tell a difference. I’m learning the fretboard better and don’t have to constantly look at the strings. And I’ve even had a moment where I felt like ‘man…I’m really playing the guitar’. The game adjusts to your style and level of playing, which is neat. Me and a musician friend can sit down and pass the guitar back and forth and the game adjusts based on skill level. Ubisoft put a lot of time and effort into this and it shows. The track list is pretty decent too. Seems to be a good bit of music from several genres so just about anyone can find SOMETHING they want to play. Another cool thing is importing the songs from the first Rocksmith. I haven’t done this yet but I have ordered a cheap copy of the first game so that I can. I believe you pay something like ten bucks and your machine will bring the tracks into the new version of the game. So in the end, I’ll have the music from both games for less than the price of what the new game.

Do you want to learn how to play guitar? This is your game. The game makes learning the guitar fun. It makes all of the practice time you have to slog through FUN. You get to play through professional music–a great list of songs! It adjusts difficulty and complexity to your current level of skill, so you don’t ever feel left out or left behind. Now, as an experienced guitar player, I prefer learning songs through tab and/or listening to the actual songs. But for a beginner, this game is priceless. I wish I had had this game years ago. It will make the initial stages of guitar playing a more hopeful and enjoyable experience. A lot of people quit soon after picking up a guitar, but this game is going to change that. Yes, it is that much fun. It even has mini-games to get you to learn chords and stuff (by killing zombies, for example).Bottom line, this game is a toy for experienced players and a NECESSITY for beginners. It makes a great gift for anyone even thinking about picking up a six-string and rocking.BUY IT. Well-done. No sound issues. No lag issues. Just a perfect experience.

Note: I’ve only just played the game for a couple of hours, and I hope to update this review after a few weeks.Several years ago, I was a huge Guitar Hero fan. In fact, those games are what got me into music, and led me to pick up a real guitar. However, I’ve found it difficult to effectively practice my instrument: lessons are hard to plan, work gets in the way, and it’s frustrating when you feel like you’re not progressing at all.I wanted to put more time instrument for the new year, and I came across this game. It seemed like a perfect fit for me, and I thought it would be a great supplement to regular lessons. So far, I absolutely love the game. If you’re unfamiliar with it, the best way I can describe it is "Guitar Hero, but with a real guitar." Once you plug in your guitar, the game helps you tune it, and then after a few minutes of tutorials, sets you loose on any song you choose. Obviously, if you select a beginner difficulty setting, the notes you play are a *very* simplified version of the song, but its still a ton of fun. Several technique lessons and minigames are also available, as well as a multiplayer mode (if you have two cables). My favorite feature is the "riff repeater" mode. Basically, you can set this feature up to repeat a section of a song until you play it perfectly. Then, the game will increase its difficulty until you’re playing the actual notes of the song. This perfectly fits my learning style, but if you get bored of doing the same t.

As the title states, 2 weeks (with no prior guitar experience) and I am actually pretty damn close to playing a full song on my own.I use a home theatre and surround sound through HDMI and have Zero lag. (which is a complaint of some)This product works for me…mainly for one reason. I look forward to using it! Can try online lessons, books or DVDs but if you aren’t having fun or picking up your guitar every day…you probably wont learn.I love the song list and DLC comes out every week I believe. If you wanna kill yourself there is Cliffs of Dover…which is insane but fun.I have been raving about this product to all my friends…I would highly suggest it if you wanna try to learn!

Very fun and good way to learn to play guitar or bass guitar lot more fun with two people then with one as you can compete against each other I was actually beating a friend of mine that has been playing since he was 16 years old and he’s in his late 30s now I’m 54 and I’m just starting to learn the bass. Wish me luck I’m trying to teach an old dog new trick LOL

So much fun! Best way to learn guitar, I think. Can do it at your own pace…. much cheaper than face to face private lessons. Can do rythm or lead guitar or bass! Can play 2 people at the same time if you get two cables to do so!
