I was very excited to hear that this was coming to PC! Who wants to play guitar in the livingroom on the tv while everyone is trying to watch their daily shows? Something seemed a bit too childish about playing the guitar on a PS3 or Xbox anyway.I won’t make this long and drawn out -here are my quirks:- It learns you "too fast" meaning that it puts you into more advanced stages quicker than it should. You can start out a song in very basic mode and end up full blazing shreds with power chords and barre chords flying at you and you’re like what????- It also doesn’t do very well with drop d tuning. It can never pick up the notes during game play. I’m playing a brand new Fender blacktop HSH that is professionally setup and sounds fantastic! But when I play a song that requires me to drop the string to a different note, I almost have to play one fret above where it says to in order for the game to recognize it. So therefore I get confused and it’s hard to play.- There’s not much in the way of teaching you with this game. It’s pretty much just play and hit or miss the notes and chords. If it taught you the song first, and THEN played it, then that would be a different story. For instance it should say ok these are the notes, chords and riffs in this song, this is how to play them correctly and here are some tips. But it doesn’t do that, you just jump straight into the song. – There are some practice runs for things such as power chords, slides, bends etc. But they only app.
I bought this game along with an inexpensive Les Paul Special II. I tried teaching myself in the past, but practicing just got so boring that I didn’t continue with it. This game keeps practice interesting. When the program thinks you have a concept, it increases the songs level of difficulty so that you continually improve. It also has games, video’s, and technique challenges that help you improve every aspect of playing electric guitar.One annoyance that I have are that it doesn’t stay in the sub menu’s. For instance, if you are doing technique challenges you have to select the technique challenge button twice to do another technique challenge. Additionally, if you are trying to learn the chords of a particular song, you don’t have the option of simply moving to the next cord. You have to go back to the main menu and drill down to select the next cord. Even with this problem, it’s still makes learning guitar fun.
As a guitarist who has been playing for close to 12 years I bought this on a whim and I think it is a neat idea. For me I was hoping to learn a little more through this game than I have so far but it is targeted towards beginners, not experienced players. My biggest qualm with this game is it does not teach technique or the basics for writing. This game teaches the guitar mainly through "you have a guitar, this is how you tune, go play this song" and I was hoping for a little more out of it. Obviously I do enjoy Rocksmith as a game hence the 4 stars but if you want more, remember this is just a game and not really a tool. Either way I still recommend it if you wanna goof around and have some fun.
This program helps so much with guitar playing. I love that you are playing with real music, not the tick of a metronome. Hearing the musicas you play and being able to play different parts teaches so much more about how music is put together and keeps things interesting. Being able to watch the videos over and over then practicing these techniques and getting exact feedback as many times as you want, whenever you want is something no instructor could ever do. The games help to keep you practicing while making it fun. The 2014 version seems to keep all the good parts and just make it so much better.Now for the bad parts. First the PC version does need a powerful machine. Second it would be easy to change the display to a slightly modified tab display instead of the strange custom format they use. Third it would be nice to have even just a couple lessons on tab and standard music notation. You are going to need other help to learn to play, but this is a great help on top of being a fun game.
This is really a great game to learn how to play or practice your skills on guitar (haven’t tried the bass settings). Not but a few inches back from where the cable plugs into your PC USB port is a connector; the cable is actually two pieces. Make sure that’s pushed together tight.- Make sure you have room to play! Lots of people, such as myself, have a corner desk, which makes it cramped. Give yourself the best possible playing area and arrange your chair/desk so you have room to rock!Enjoy!
I was surprised how in depth Rocksmith is. I am an avid piano player, but had never picked up a guitar before. I got this after my brother recommended it to me. After playing it for over 40 hours, I can say that yes Rocksmith can teach you to play guitar, but not in a "complete" way. I was able to pick up my play speed and build up my calluses by playing this game. However, it focuses too much on just covering songs, so that you only learn to play a wide array of licks. That’s great if you want to impress friends, but some people get stuck on this phase, and never develop further as musicians.I can’t deny that it is a great stepping stone for greater things, and it manages to do it in a fun way (for the most part).
Technical Stuff – Integrated Graphics – Audio “Unplugged” issueS:I ordered this, intending to put it on my media center PC connected via HDMI to my living room TV. I had read about some audio latency issues so I connected a subwoofer and speakers to the PC via audio jack to avoid that particular issue. My concern after that was that I am running a sandy bridge core i3, 2120T. Basically a 2.5ghz Sandy with integrated graphics. After reading some of the reviews here I was worried about game performance. I wasn’t overly worried because I do have a low profile Geforce 520 I could stick in the machine if the CPU/GPU couldn’t handle the game, I just didn’t want to do that unless I had to because I want to keep the power consumption, heat, and fan noise to a minimum in my living room pc. The game arrived yesterday and after the lengthy install process, I fired it up, only to find that during the setup, it kept saying the cable was unplugged. I was quite frustrated reading forums and finding that people had been getting bogus cables and had to have new ones sent. I did, however, read on one forum that audio management programs running in the system tray can sometimes interfere. I ended task on my realtek audio manager but this did not resolve the problem. I realized that it might be the audio component of my hauppauge dual tuner, so I disabled that device in device manager. The PC asked for a restart – but I did not restart it – and Rocksmith worked like a champ. After I.

It’s also helping me brush up on some core skills like picking accuracy and using different areas of the fretboard.Learning to read the on-screen tablature was a bit of hurdle at first. Each string is associated with a color. They happen to be different than the ones I’ve grown accustomed to seeing on the rings of D’addario strings. So it’s an on-going process of remembering than green is the B string, not the D string.The notes come at you in a similar way to Guitar Hero. The only rhythm annotation is a bar measure. Other than that you’re just expected to figure out the rhythm from spacing, which I think is a huge missed opportunity to teach proper rhythm skills.You can pick to play certain songs or you can follow "The Journey" which will throw different songs at you in different degrees of complexity. At times the game’s simplified adaptations of songs can be frustrating especially if you kind of know the riff beforehand – why is it making me learn that note before that one? – but I view it as an exercise in flexibility, and there is value in that. Playing chords racks you up a surprising amount of experience points in the beginning, so I suppose this game is geared at total beginner.

The software comes with steam to register the game and to update the software. The main problem I ran into was the game was slow to respond or would just hang. I found that steam is running in the background and was causing the problem. I exited the steam program and the game would run smoothly. I don’t know if the newer version has fix this problem but I would assume that it has. This software will make a good addition to learning to play guitar for beginners and with the steam program you can play against other players. Rock Smith for PC requires Windows Vista/Windows 7, 2.0 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo E4400 or 2.0 GHz AMD Athlon 64×2 3800 + or better, 2GB of Ram (4 GB recommended). I was unsure at first of allowing my son to use a video game for help in learning guitar. I am pleasantly happy with what this game has given both of us. I am a past guitar player and he brand new to the instrument. We cannot believe the depth of instruction and variety of artists one can utilize here. There are levels of instruction that are fun and challenging. Games that create very specific practice sessions for chords, chord changes, harmonics and other playing skills. Paired with lessons this game inspires a student to practice far more than most would. My son will obsess on a skill or song until he masters it. After only 3 monthes with this game he is able to sit in on jams with local musicians somewhat holding his own! They are greatly impressed with his knowledge and ability to play standard blues riffs and classic rock tunes. I wish this technology had been around when I was a young, learning musician.

Surely one of my favourite games of all time. And helps me to practice my bass playing.This is a really good software.HOWEVER, I think it must be better for guitar players. Haven’t tried it with a guitar yet, because I don’t have one, but it clearly has some issues with basses – especially my Ibanez SR505, a pre-amped model. Rocksmith is always complaining that the sound level is too high, but, even with a high volume on the preamp, it misses some notes.It works better with my passive cheap SX Jazz Bass. However, it seems to miss some notes. And the worst, to me, is that seems like the music keeps playing the original basslines – so, even if you play badly, the song sounds OK.It would be good to have some kind of "difficulty level" in terms of "good playing", not only complexity of the arrangements. That way, I would be able to really see if I’m playing well enough for a real live gig.But it’s great anyway.Can’t wait to get Rocksmith 2!

After seeing mixed reviews on the pc version and hearing great things about this game from an xbox user i decided to take the plunge. I was worried the game might not include the guitar plug to usb adapter because it was so cheap but i worried for nothing. the cord was included and is of high quality in my opinion. I had no issues with installation onto a windows 8 pro pc. I read alot of reviewers complaining about having to install steam. For those of you not aware, steam is a very popular content delivery system. I also dislike installing additional software before installing games ( I hate origin from EA) , however, i do recognize services like steam and origin are here to stay and these programs don’t seem to tie up too many resources on your pc. The game plays smooth and better than expected. PC specs include an amd quad core phenom 2, 16gb ram, nvidia gtx275 vid card, asus m5a97 motherboard. This is not a high end machine. I put it together several years ago. Weakest point is definitely the video card. I’ve received a fair amount of game crashes due to video card issues. I’m problably due for a replacement but it only crashes every 5 songs or so. I usually need a break by then anyway. Crashes aren’t related to game in any way.The guitar i’m using is an old danelectro. after tuning the guitar through the game everything seems to be picking up really well. My first issue was from pushing down too hard on frets. the game would report that my note was off a fret when it was.

I have this for PC and PS3. The PC version has noticeably shorter load times if you have a gaming rig compared to the PS3. The load times do not kill the game but caused me to crank out a few more riffs or slow bends during the wait. I like how the game builds in additional items to play as it senses you can handle it. Have I had a time or two where my hands went up briefly? Yes, but I soon pushed through it to find it was not quite as bad as initially seen. There are many facets to the game which allow hours of intense practice. Less downtime digging through tablature to find a song I would like to play. One of the things I really like is it challenges me to try another genre which I normally would steer clear. I feel it is rounding me as a player and allowing me to learn something while playing. It also has helped build my confidence in my skill and lifted me off of the plateau I have been on for the last ten years (seasoned player, 19 years). In addition to guitar it has helped me with bass. Bang, bang, bang, bang…bang, 5 Stars.
