What is there to really say about these two? They are nothing short of fantastic games but mind you that they are not for everyone. The following may contain spoilers.Ico is a wonderful tale of a seemingly ordinary boy who’s put under extraordinary circumstances. Solve puzzles and live out a beautiful story of honest and simple friendship. Early in Ico’s adventures he encounters a strange young woman whom he must protect and guide. When I say guide, I don’t mean that figuratively. Ico generally needs to take her by the hand and lead her to the next location, but every so often she’ll take initiative and run after something interesting. This is a very puzzle oriented game, so don’t expect high action or anything like that.Shadow of the Colossus is in fact a prequel to Ico, this time following a young man who seeks to save his loved one by making a deal with the god of death. To do so he must defeat massive beasts, the Colossi, who are puzzles of their own, with vast sweeping landscapes and beautiful adventures along the way, culminating in the most epic and climactic battles between man and mountains. Every encounter is new and a challenge to solve, not just win.As for this HD rerelease, the graphics are quite stunning. They will not match a new game today by any means, but this is a wonderful addition to my collection. If you’ve played either of these before, I highly recommend buying this set.P.S. THE COVER IS REVERSIBLE! The original Ico art on the front, Shadow of the Colos.

One of the main reasons I had my PS2 modded was so I could play the European version of ICO. I beat the game which opens up the possibility upon replay for a second player to join in. The second player’s role as the girl is pretty limited though. This time through is substantially more familiar (a negative) but the graphics and the bonus content are rewarding. What a vision Mr. Ueda the creator has for creating these single player experiences. When both of these games were released there was more info embedded in the code than the PS2 could handle–thus the remastering is largely a liberation of existing detail originally existent. It is not (however) like playing them for the first time. It is a re-experience of how they were meant to be played in totality. I gave this collection 4 stars for fun. I had already beaten ICO once and SoC twice on the PS2. Therefore the “fun” rating. There are only a handful of PS2 games that are worthy of this kind of remastering. These are two of them. I would not mind seeing the Norrath series remastered since I believe there is more detail to be revealed and several existing bugs that need repair. Perhaps Dark Alliance Icould be a good candidate as well. I would be interested in hearing what others might say about games they would like to see remastered for the PS3.

Team Ico is such an underrated developer. Anyone who has not experienced these games should do themselves a favor and play them. Beautiful worlds and touching narratives all mostly told without much dialogue. That is something to be admired. 10/10 for Team Ico

TWO GREAT underrated games on 1 disc that truly pushed the playstation 2 to it’s limits back in the day. To this day it still holds up INCREDIBLY well on the PS3, even without the HD stuff it still looks amazing. Both of these games should be played by every PS3 owner because it’s one of those games that really makes the players feel very emotionally attached to the main characters, etc.BUY NOW before they eventually stop selling this collection because I have a feeling this collection will become a collector’s item in the future and possibly rare on auction sites as well. I already beat both games and truly love both games. Every now and then I pop in Shadow or Ico every year just to replay both of these epic games.

This collection is one of my favorites on the PS3. I played the originals of both years ago, but didn’t finish either. ICO has aged well, it’s still a fun, slightly whimsical action-RPG that I always thought reminded me of the Legend of Zelda "Link" games on the SNES. Shadow of Colossus has challenged me for years. I’m not the best in the world at button tapping, but it’s well worth the frustration. I never thought I would like the basis of it since you know, there’s no little enemies between you and the bosses, but it has been a fun game for me. I had various problems with the boneheaded camera, especially when riding the horse, but besides that both games are near perfect. This would be an excellent collection for a younger gamer/early teens who is just getting into RPGs and games that require some thinking.

In short: I’m glad I finally picked these 2 up.Despite hearing about these games for years, I’d never tried them. I didn’t have a PS2 during their heyday (I was an XBox kid), and heard about them much later, spoken of by others with reverence. I’d always meant to pick them up, (I now have a backward-compatible PS3), never got around to it, but now that this HD version is out, I guess it’s ok that I waited.ICO:A brilliant platforming game. Having played the God of War games before ICO, it’s plainly obvious to me now where many of those games’ platforming elements came from. The animations are very fluid and realistic. Meaning characters sometimes jerk suddenly or stumble as real people would when trying to make certain movements. As opposed to most games where characters just sort of float. It’s very cool, kind of reminds me of the original Prince of Persia. The thing that’s really striking about this game though is how little is actually explained to you. There is NO HUD whatsoever, at any time. There’s no tutorial to explain buttons. I didn’t know I could perform one action until halfway through the game, when I needed to do it. And having to bring your companion along is immensely rewarding. You really get attached to her.Shadow of the Colossus:I am not all the way through yet. But it is every bit as good as ICO, though it is different in many ways. The animation style is the same – much more like actual human movements than video game characters. The Colossi are HUGE, and.

Ever since I was a little kid I always saw the SoC game and wanted to play it really badly, although it always was too expensive. It was amazing to get that nostalgic experience that I never got to have. Ico was a nice add on to what I wanted, but gets frustrating sometimes.——GAMEPLAY———ICO- Ico is a pretty bare game when it comes to the complexity of the gameplay which does this game well. You only need to press 3 or 4 different buttons when you are playing and of course the analog stick. Ico was the “hipster” of modern day indie games being one of the more minimalist experiences. With just a beat the crud out of the shadow enemies in the game. Although, the worst part of the game is that Yorda is way to defense-less. She has an awful AI that you would certainly hope for in modern day games. For it’s original time it was not as much as a problem, but you’ll be cursing at your screen as she runs around the ladder instead of going up to and climbing it.-Shadow of Colossus- This was the most amazing gameplay experience in it’s day. With some minor controls that are odd, but will take you 10 minutes to master. Climbing up the beasts is an easy task, finding and slicing at their weak spots is the best feeling I’ve felt in a game in a long time. I really don’t have much to say about it because it is beautifully done when it comes to gameplay. Gameplay on SoC alone makes this game easily worth $30 (Let alone $20)——Presentation——Ico/SoC- Whenever I get.

  8. FunFact

Amazing art in game form , this collection is worth the money 20 bucks for 2 games its an amazing deal . Its an HD collection but the graphics look amazing and better than they did in the Ps2 . Storys are touching and at points sad . Scenery is gorgeous and artistic . If you were a fan of games such as Journey than you will love this collection .Its a game that shows Art is very much in every game from character design to back drops to stories .

  9. Polyjubjub

These are 2 great games of the Playstation 2 era. I was able to get this copy for cheaper than an individual copy of the other games, so I was definitely happy about that. The only thing it, it only comes as 1 disc, so if you’re trying to buy it and sell one of the games or give one of them away, just know that’s not possible with this setup.

  10. N Plotkin

I never had a chance to pick these titles up when they were on the ps2. Now that I have them I can see why people rave about them. Even though the graphics are dated (even with the HD upgrade) it is still an awe inspiring moment to see the first colossus or go through the expanses of the castle in Ico. These games are no frills and do not give a deep story but it does immerse the player in an unforgettable environment. There are a few moments when trying to figure out puzzles does become tedious but for the most part the game play is intuitive. If you played it before and you feel nostalgic get it. If you passed it up once before do yourself a favor and pick this up!
