It’s that time again, once more we get an opportunity to traverse into the sick-twisted dimension known as Silent Hill. A place that one could argue doesn’t really exist, only manifest itself on the psychological state-of-being of the person who dares enter it.Let me start off by saying that Silent Hill: Origins is the first of two Silent Hill installments that is not developed by Team Silent. For those that don’t know, Origins was developed by Climax and the upcoming Silent Hill V is being developed by The Collective. We start the game off with a trucker with a shadowy past by the name of Travis Grady who is doing his regular job as any trucker would do in the good old US of A. While driving through the harsh rain he slams on his brakes as a figure runs across the road in front of his truck while on his path into Silent Hill. Once he gets out of his vehicle to investigate, a mysterious girl steps into view then quickly runs off. Travis follows her to see if she is ok as she runs toward the town of Silent Hill and thereby starts a journey in which Travis must face his own personal demons much like other personas have before him.Origins takes place before the original Silent Hill game (As we take it as the name implies) and tells the tale of how the town was consumed in darkness. Travis interacts with many characters from the original Silent Hill throughout the game’s cut-scenes while dealing with his own dark past. Once more the town is decorated in total fogginess and there i.

I LOVE SH games, this one is a GREAT GAME !!! Yes true few thing could have been done better, but overall it is still what SH is all about, HORROR !!! I can’t wait for more of SH games to come out in the near future, this just has awaken my appetite. Any SH fan will enjoy this game, it takes you back to the first SH for PSone with those awful graphics, but the origin’s graphics are very nice, & the landscape was kept very original, it almost makes me fill like I am playing a new version of the fist SH game, but upgraded.Thank you

It’s only fair to warn people that this is being written by a person who has completed silent hill 2 more times than he can count. Half of my favorites on my browser link to silent hill sites. I asked a girl out because she looked like Cybil, I’m sure you get the point. That said, this is still a really cool game with some interesting mechanics. The mirror thing gets a little tedious at times, but the newer combat style is much less frustrating than any previous titles. I say this because I realize you are not supposed to be a Navy Seal, you are supposed to be average. But in most other silent hill games, I felt more cheated than helpless. When they boosted the combat skills for homecoming they cancelled it out by giving the creatures lightning speed, ridiculous health and what I call psychic A.I. (i.e., when you press a button, it makes the creature respond, instead of having it’s own patterns). I feel that the combat has the right amount of ability and hopelessness to keep it interesting in origins. I died a few times, more so from getting triple and quadruple teamed than from boss fights, but I usually saw it coming and tried to fight my way through. The puzzles usually involve the mirror world and this is where it gets annoying. I don’t know whose concept this was, but apparently they’ve never heard how people are annoyed by the go find the key concept. What a solution, not only do I now have to go find the key, I have to go find it by bouncing between worlds to get around.

This was my first Silent Hill game and I am glad it was this one. I just played through Silent Hill 2 and can definitely say Origins was much more fun and exciting. The only negative opinions I have are there are not enough save points at crucial places and the load time when he goes through doors and the time it took to save were horrendous. My game had some bugs/glitches (especially a freeze-up at the very end-errrr!) so that may have been part of that, not sure! Also, I found the inventory very stiff and time consuming. I am a veteran Tomb Raider player and the set-up with inventories on those games are what I’m used to and they are very smooth. Last gripe – Straightjackets were an ongoing menace – there were too many of them and they did not add to the scariness of the game, they were very tiresome and annoying instead. I loved Travis’ fighting skills – found it great that you could just punch away if you didn’t feel like fooling around with an object or a gun. I would like to add that I am not a really big gamer so take my opinions for what they are worth! All in all, a fun but suspenseful game – worth buying, especially for the multiple endings.

Fans of the series or those who have seen the movie should really get into this game. You meet Alessa, a younger Dahlia, and other characters from the first game (no spoiler, this is explained right in the booklet). Some connections and explanations are also offered which were pretty vague before. Lights and sounds also seem to draw monsters far more than other games (didn’t seem to make much difference in the other games). The mirror idea was pretty cool too although it seemed to give you some controll over this horrific world. The downside…I was disappointed by the “new features” in this game. One is the use of fixed camera angles which I actually liked in resident evil. They could’ve worked here too but weren’t handled as well as the RE games. At times a monster may be 2′ in front of you but its off screen so you don’t know until you either walk into it or shoot blindly. A couple times you walk down an aisle and disappear until you walk out- who knows if anything was there to pick up or examine. In other SH games camera angles may be used but at least you can hit a button and look around.New combat features include punching… which makes sense (always thought it odd in SH& RE games that your options are basically run or shoot- noone can kick, etc). But on the other hand, I restarted this game and it takes something out of the “scare” when you can just walk up to the monsters and punch them into submission. Another combat feature is the ability to pick up assorted items f.

For those of you who don’t know, SH0 was released as a PSP game first, and was later created for the PS2 so that a wider audience could play. This is the PS2 version so if you’re looking for the PSP game you’re on the wrong page. A great game but not much difference than the PSP version. If you own the PSP version there’s no real reason to buy it except for collector reasons.

Granted that this game is the prequel to the Silent Hill game series, it delivers an enjoyable time that is similar to all the Silent Hill games before it.Given the fact that you’ve played the other games, this game doesn’t really show much of what we’ve already seen in SH games. So in the category of innovative, this might not seem as extreme. But that doesn’t take away from it.We’re introduced to another male character, Travis, who like the rest of the protagonists of the series, has something dark hidden beneath his casual appearance. The game offers a cast of completely new monsters and some familiar old ones you battle against while trying to navigate through the town of Silent Hill. As well as Travis’ own unique monster that will leave you most intrigued. The game offers new interesting locations to explore in Silent Hill. The controls are easy to use and make for a smooth gameplay experience. Voice acting is no disappointment either in this game. For fans of Akira Yamaoke’s music, you may find yourselves a bit disappointed with this one. While the soundtrack does offer much to the game, it’s not what I’d call very spellbinding or impressive as some of his previous works. Mostly, it’s music similar to what I’ve already heard before in the big titled games. While I did have my doubts about this game and the main character, it surprised me as being actually enjoyable to play. Travis definitely stood out from the rest of the SH male protagonists as being his own character an.

Fans of the series should obviously pick this up just for the whole history of Silent Hill thing. Konami has always had great graphics in the series, and while these are not as good as say Silent Hill 3, they are certainly decent and sufficiently creepy. This is a better looking port than say Liberty City Stories….The controls are about the same as the previous PS2 games, but do require a little more patience to get used to. I got some good scares and plenty of chills from this game, and some interesting plot points are revealed. Many people don’t want to go back to PS2 now that everything is Next Gen; But I have to say for fans especially, it’s worth dusting off that old console and popping this in. And yes, there’s fog!

Considering that this game came over from PSP to the PS2 it is a brilliant achievement of complete creepiness. The incorporation of the the mirrors which flip you between Normal World and Evil World is excellent. I physically felt dread as I touched that mirror in anticipation of Evil World. So dark that it is sometimes difficult to see, the strained eyes are worth it. I vastly prefer playing without the visual noise filter (which you can only turn off after beating the game). If you are a fan of these games, I consider this a must.
