Good not Great. Worth a play through if you like the series
Not much to say, the game was amazing. I only wish two things. One, I still want to play the original game. I wish they would of included it as a bonus. And Two, I want a sequal! This sold well, I dont understand why nintendo never got any more silent hill.
We got our copy of Shattered Memories for the Wii before release date and went through it extensively. We have been waiting with baited, misty breath to re-enter the world of Silent Hill and see what Climax Studios has brought to us in the form of a re-imagining of the original game.Short Review: St. Elsewhere.Long Review:We will start with the basics and go from there. The graphics for the game are quite good, even comparing them to PS3 or 360 graphics, and do not lower the greatness of the game in any way. They are solid, the models are rendered quite well, and the town itself looks as it should. There are occasional issues of tearing when inside buildings, with ceiling and wall joints turning static-y without being part of the intent of the developers. The audio is quite good and sets the mood, but Akira Yamaoka’s soundtrack this time around is not nearly as memorable as past installments. There are a few standout songs but otherwise it just seems to be the usual mood setting background music without the punch of previous entries into the series. Nothing really sets the scare factor up to previous levels where music is concerned.Gameplay is quite masterfully done with the Wii control scheme. The Wii-mote makes using the flashlight second nature as you control it like you would in real life. There is a bit of strain in bringing up Harry’s cellphone wherein you have to stretch the hand, or even think about the positioning of the hand, to use it. It takes one out of the feeling.
Sure, this game is not perfect. Only one type of enemy haunts the screen. Weapons are nonexistent. The impending doom generated by the beloved Silent Hill fog is oftentimes as absent as the fog! For whatever reason, Harry is harder to sympathize with than the Harries of the original Silent Hill and Silent Hill 3. Also, the environment does not have the same anachronistic appeal of some earlier installments in the series (perhaps because carrying a cell phone relieves a bit of the stress of isolation). The game is, nonetheless, a fascinating experiment that uses the Silent Hill universe as its laboratory. But it’s not for all players. The story, from my perspective, is more about symbolism than the actual events players encounter throughout the course of the game. I don’t even think it’s meant to frighten in the same sense that the earlier games do as part of the survival horror genre. I may be giving the game’s creators a free ride with some of the following comments. However, I believe there is a reason why Harry only observes one type of enemy. This negates the possibility of the enemies developing distinct personas (like the mannequins from SH2 or the gray children from SH1). Mr. Mason is undoubtedly the focus. The forced defenselessness is a metaphor for Harry’s physical and emotional vulnerability. As he has treated his problems in his personal life, Harry must practice escapism in the nightmare sequences. With the inclusion of a psychologist who makes freq.
the graphics are great, the tension is there, the story is sweet, and I’m giving it 5 stars! Good job konami
Let me start this review off by saying that before buying this game, I had never played a “Silent Hill” game before. I had no expectations going into this game, but now that I’ve completed it multiple times, I’m excited to explore other parts of the creepy town of Silent Hill and discover other horrors within.STORY – After Harry Mason is in a car crash, he falls out of his car and blacks out on a blanket of snow. When he wakes up, he is horrified to find that his daughter Cheryl who had been traveling with him is now missing. Thus begins the story and Harry’s trek to find out where his daughter is. Along the way, he will be presented with shocking questions that will leave him wondering what is real and what is a dream.Interspersed among Harry’s adventures in the town of Silent Hill are various interactive scenes in a psychiatrist’s office for you to complete. These help morph the story into your personal experience. The characters you interact with, the locations you visit, and the puzzles you solve are heavily influenced by how you respond in these sessions. By changing up answers, you literally can play the game many different ways and encounter different cutscenes and endings each playthrough. Usually your psychiatrist will ask you true/false or yes/no questions in addition to having you complete an activity such as dividing pictures into certain categories. How you respond is completely up to you and will impact how your personal game plays out.I loved the story.
Love it!
So good.
This game is great. I’m not a gamer and this is a great intro into gaming for a 30 year old woman. So much fun. Graphics are great and the story line is so creepy in this little world!
This is a really fun game. It’s quite a bit different from your typical Silent Hill. You don’t get any weapons and you don’t kill the monsters you encounter. Instead, the game is formatted to put you through "chase scenes" periodically, where you have to run away from the monsters that have appeared and if one jumps onto you, you have to shake the Wiimote back & forth to free yourself. As the game goes on, these chase sequences get longer and more complex (to the point where I was reading the ‘turn left, turn right’ instructions off the internet to my friend as he was going through the chase because we were sick of being stuck in a perpetual circle), so it does become somewhat tedious down the line. However, the storyline is good and the interspersed "therapy sessions" are an interesting mechanic. Overall, it’s definitely worth a play.
