Sonic and company are back and better than ever in Sonic Adventure 2: Battle for Nintendo GameCube. Dr. Eggman is up to his old tricks, and it’s up to Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles to stop him yet again. Two new playable characters enter the Sonic universe — a mysterious dark hedgehog called Shadow, and a jewel-thieving bat named Rouge. In the single-player mode, you’ll go through more than 30 unique stages, which include everything from a forgotten pyramid, an abandoned military base, and a giant space station. Sonic Adventure 2: Battle features faster action, all-new two-player games, and a branching storyline that lets you choose to save the world as the Hero side, or conquer it as the Dark side.

Sonic Adventure 2: Battle

Sonic Adventure 2: Battle is the enhance port of the Dreamcast video game, Sonic Adventure 2. It was release in December 2001 in Japan and 2002 in the rest of the world for the Nintendo GameCube. Making it the first Sonic the Hedgehog game to be release for a Nintendo game console. This port includes a variety of exclusive new features and alongside several changes.

Description

Most Sonic the Hedgehog games are specifically for Sega related platforms but Sonic Adventure 2 Battle is an original game made for the Nintendo GameCube. However, Sonic and crew need to stop Dr. Eggman from his nasty tricks again. Also there’s new characters brought into the Sonic universe. And a mysterious dark hedgehog Shadow and a bat name Rouge. The Sonic Adventure 2 Battle has been enhance with graphics, doubling the framerate and now is set as a multiplayer system.

3-D Debut

Sega’s mascot made his 3-D debut on the Dreamcast, but with the demise of that system the zippy blue hedgehog is popping up everywhere–including on the GameCube. But unfortunately, his first next-gen appearance, Sonic Adventure 2: Battle, is marred by the same 3-D camera problems that plagued the Dreamcast version. And the multiplayer “battle” component isn’t all that it’s cracked up to be.

Choose Hero

Right out of the gate, players have the option of choosing Hero (Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles) or Dark (Dr. Eggman, Shadow, and Rouge) quests, which are completely different. However, Sonic and his dark counterpart Shadow traverse levels at warp speed colleting coins. And power-ups while fighting enemies in the game’s most exhilarating moments.

But unfortunately, the other characters are nowhere near as fun to play. Dr. Eggman and Tails fight through levels that require little more than constant button-mashing to shoot an endless procession of enemies. And Knuckles and Rouge participate in seemingly endless levels that require searching for a variety of objects.

Graphics

Graphically, the game is a bit of a letdown considering the processing muscle of GameCube. Models are fairly simplistic, and level textures are sometimes bland. Game Boy Advance owners can use a link cable to download Chao from the game and train them on the go. But the rewards for doing so are minor considering the time investment involve.

Moreover, the main feature this game offers over its Dreamcast predecessor is the variety of multiplayer modes. Which are fun but offer none of the depth or replayability of standalone multiplayer games like Super Smash Bros. Melee. Still, they are nice additions. Especially the racing games and round out a flawed single-player component.

Sonic addicts who miss this game the first time around on the Dreamcast will definitely want to check it out. But the finicky camera, tedious non-Sonic/Shadow levels in single-player mode. And surprisingly shallow multiplayer components (especially the Chao games) turn what could have been a great game into a mere good one.

Pros:

  • Plenty of variety.
  • Sonic/Shadow levels are pure, unadulterated fun.

Cons:

  • Knuckles/Rouge levels are tedious.
  • Multiplayer aspects could use some more depth

  1. 1

I know this game is a meme, but I still love it. The soundtrack slays. Probably my favorite Sonic game. I got my gamecube copy from the shop HonestJack4. It was like brand new. Couldn’t recommend it enough.Gotta go fassst

  2. JAT Universe

I had heard a lot about this game and read the good reveiws and thought I’d try it out. when I first got it and started playing the Hero story my impression was a little low, the levels seemed to easy and honestly I preferred the tails levels to the Sonic ones. but as I got into it the levels got funner to the point where I could say it has some of the best levels I’ve played, and then I played the Dark story which so far I’m to about eggmans 2nd level and I’ve really enjoyed the fact that they upped the challenge on the Dark story. also the Chao are great and the best part is that it has so many fun missions and modes to earn that I don’t see it ending any time soon. A note on the different Characters, Sonic is Decent, the levels are generaly fun and the last one is a blast 4 star average 5 on Final Rush. (havn’t tried Shadow yet.)Tails and Eggman are my favorites every level so far has been a blast 5 star(although the first Tails levels not a challenge at all, just shoot tons of robots). Knuckles and Rouge are the worst but most of the levels aren’t horrible and a few are even fun 3 to 2 stars.Gameplay 4.8/5Graphics 4/5 (a lot of effects and lots of decorations but not great modeling)Story So far 4/5Replay 5/5Amount of levels etc, 5/5Camera 2/5 (worst I’ve seen but still awesome game)

It is a great game for kids to play and work on fine motor skills. Great game for families to play together.

  4. Sena B

This is one of the games I can see my brother playing all the time. The songs are the best.

  5. mod15 Productions

This game is genuinely one of the most fun games I have ever had the joy of playing in my life. I’ve been playing it since the day it came out (Feb 11, 2002) and I just ordered my third disk yesterday off retrolio. The reason for needing three disks isn’t negligence, like it is for some – no, it’s from overuse. I’ve played the game so much that the disk stopped being able to be read by my GameCube. Whether from slow wearing down of the surface from friction or the laser, I don’t know.Regardless, this is my third copy, and I’ll keep playing for years to come, in sure.
