Sonic Adventure 2: Battle

Sonic Adventure 2: Battle is the enhance port of the Dreamcast video game, Sonic Adventure 2. It was release in December 2001 in Japan and 2002 in the rest of the world for the Nintendo GameCube. Making it the first Sonic the Hedgehog game to be release for a Nintendo game console. This port includes a variety of exclusive new features and alongside several changes.

Description

Most Sonic the Hedgehog games are specifically for Sega related platforms but Sonic Adventure 2 Battle is an original game made for the Nintendo GameCube. However, Sonic and crew need to stop Dr. Eggman from his nasty tricks again. Also there’s new characters brought into the Sonic universe. And a mysterious dark hedgehog Shadow and a bat name Rouge. The Sonic Adventure 2 Battle has been enhance with graphics, doubling the framerate and now is set as a multiplayer system.

3-D Debut

Sega’s mascot made his 3-D debut on the Dreamcast, but with the demise of that system the zippy blue hedgehog is popping up everywhere–including on the GameCube. But unfortunately, his first next-gen appearance, Sonic Adventure 2: Battle, is marred by the same 3-D camera problems that plagued the Dreamcast version. And the multiplayer “battle” component isn’t all that it’s cracked up to be.

Choose Hero

Right out of the gate, players have the option of choosing Hero (Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles) or Dark (Dr. Eggman, Shadow, and Rouge) quests, which are completely different. However, Sonic and his dark counterpart Shadow traverse levels at warp speed colleting coins. And power-ups while fighting enemies in the game’s most exhilarating moments.

But unfortunately, the other characters are nowhere near as fun to play. Dr. Eggman and Tails fight through levels that require little more than constant button-mashing to shoot an endless procession of enemies. And Knuckles and Rouge participate in seemingly endless levels that require searching for a variety of objects.

Graphics

Graphically, the game is a bit of a letdown considering the processing muscle of GameCube. Models are fairly simplistic, and level textures are sometimes bland. Game Boy Advance owners can use a link cable to download Chao from the game and train them on the go. But the rewards for doing so are minor considering the time investment involve.

Moreover, the main feature this game offers over its Dreamcast predecessor is the variety of multiplayer modes. Which are fun but offer none of the depth or replayability of standalone multiplayer games like Super Smash Bros. Melee. Still, they are nice additions. Especially the racing games and round out a flawed single-player component.

Sonic addicts who miss this game the first time around on the Dreamcast will definitely want to check it out. But the finicky camera, tedious non-Sonic/Shadow levels in single-player mode. And surprisingly shallow multiplayer components (especially the Chao games) turn what could have been a great game into a mere good one.

Pros:

  • Plenty of variety.
  • Sonic/Shadow levels are pure, unadulterated fun.

Cons:

  • Knuckles/Rouge levels are tedious.
  • Multiplayer aspects could use some more depth

The game has great graphics and a great multiplayer mode. The rankings make it very vague, but the storyline is awesome. The hero side is easy to follow; in sonics perspective. The dark side is mainly shadows perspective. One of the go getters is the chao garden.

I remember first playing this game courtesy of a good friend’s influence. It ended up becoming one of my new favorite Sonic games and here I am now, buying it for myself. So how does it stand….Pros:+Story is pretty good. It has high-stakes, the plot handles both it’s serious moments and it’s humorous moments very well, the new characters are interesting and dynamic, and the cutscenes -while certainly dated- are pretty nice.+For a Dreamcast title turned Gamecube remake, this games looks great even to this day. Locations are full of detail, character models are very nice to look at, and when you’re in those fast action stages- you’re eyes will be wanting more.+Control is some of the best a pure 3D Sonic game has ever had. Part of it is owed to the Gamecube controller but- barring some exceptionally tiny issues- it’s so much fun to run, jump, glide, and shoot your way through these stages.+Level design and gameplay for each gameplay style is overall amazing. They cut out the stuff that didn’t work in Adventure (Big and Amy), got rid of the hub worlds, and gave us only the good stuff: action-speed, treasure-hunting, and mech-shooting. Levels are memorable and full of over-the-top set pieces or unique themes. Each character has plenty of useful and well-implemented upgrades. The rank system and additional missions help add replayability to these stages. And barring a handful of bad levels the quality is almost consistently great. My favorites include City Escape, Metal Harbor, R.

Sonic Adventure 2 Battle is one of the best, if not thee best sonic the hedgehog game out their. In solo mode, you enjoy story mode as you either fight with sonic, tails and knuckles in order to stop Doctor Eggman, Shadow and Rouge from taking over the world. Or, you could side with the dark side and help take it over with Eggman, Shadow and Rouge. Either way, you get a fantastic game levels with three different modes. With Sonic and Shadow, you run through levels trying to get to the end of the level in time without dying or running out of time. As for Knuckles and Rouge, you play a game of hide and seek, only in this case, your looking for pieces of the Master Emerald or some of the Chaos Emeralds. Finally, with Tails and Eggman, you will gain control of their robotic fighters and try to make it to the end of the level. And even if you beat the game, you can still have fun raising your chao. Chao are blue creatures that are cute, funny and pretty cool to raise. Depending on what types of animals that are in the game you give your chao, will determine which stat it will take after and also how it will change.Over all, Sonic Adventure 2 Battle is a great game to have and play. It is cool and fun and easy to play. If you want a fun sonic game, then you should buy this sonic game since it is probably the best sonic game ever.

This game is *fast*. And then it’s slow. And then it’s blazing. I like it a lot, but the new features aren’t quite all they’re cracked up to be.As an old-school Sonic The Hedgehog fan (I had all of them on the Genesis), I was very happy to see SA2B released on the Nintendo Gamecube. I was a little concerned, though, as Sonic on Nintendo hardware *was* predicted as a sign of the apocalypse by Nostradamus. But the world hasn’t ended yet, so I think we’ll be alright. The gameplay is somewhat mixed. This is because there are three different kinds of levels: "Sonic" levels, where you race through various 3D worlds trying to get to the end as fast as possible, "Tails" levels where you run around in a mecha-suit blasting enemies and trying to get as many points as possible, and "Knuckles" levels where you have to run, climb, and fly around 3D levels searching for randomly hidden Chaos Emerald fragments as quickly as possible. I found the "Sonic" levels to be the most fun — the "Tails" levels tended to drag at points, and the "Knuckles" levels vary in difficulty drastically depending on where the emeralds are hidden each time. You have a sort of "hot/cold" detector to help find them, but something that at least gave *some* hint of a direction to go in would have made these levels much less painful. As you progress through the game, you can also unlock extra abilities for each character, which will let them.
