My son loves Sonic games and this is like the one he has on his PS3 except there are differences and extra levels. The differences are a good thing as it makes it seem like a different game. He is very happy with it.

Game has a bit of a problem with not zooming out the camera enough, but otherwise, a fun little romp. Inferior to the console version IMO, as there aren’t as many stages, and some can feel relatively empty at times. Also, bottomless pits.

That’s why I gave it 3 stars. Each level has 3 parts. The first two regular parts and the 3rd part is the special level for the stage. The first part place like an old school sonic game (like sonic, sonic 2). The second part plays more like a current day sonic game. While some may find this ‘nice’, I find it kind of annoying. For me I end up dying a lot thinking I’m in one stage vs the other and trying to either go into a ball or use an ability I don’t have. I didn’t pay much for this game, and I’m glad I didn’t It was worth the money, but at just a few dollars that doesn’t say much.

Kind of on the fence with this title.It’s like they tried to do too much with this game, and while it would probably be awesome on a full-size TV, the limitations of the handheld system sort of brings it down.Sonic, by nature, is supposed to be a fast-paced platformer, and they do the series justice by bringing in elements of past games, but I can’t help but think that they tried too hard and fell a bit short on this one. It’s playable, it’s got nice graphics for the system, and it’s fast – there’s just that lingering feeling with this game that you wish you were playing it on an actual TV.Your mileage may vary, but this is my impression of the game.

Sonic Generations on 3DS is nothing more than a cheap cash in with some gameplay differences found exclusively here. There is no 3D action platforming high speed gameplay. Instead you are treated to a 2D Sonic action and a faster 2D Sonic. The storyline remains the same only with no friends around save for the rival characters who’s boss battles are nothing more than races picked up from previous games like Sonic Rivals. The stages don’t exactly boast Sonic’s history with handhelds, in fact the only stages featured from Sonic’s 20 year history on handhelds are from Sonic Rush and the DS Version of Sonic Colors. Sometimes there are platforms where they shouldn’t be, obstructing the goal of delivering balance to the game-play formula. Also you have to memorize the stages again and again in order to make it to the goal ring. You will not succeed on your first play-through. S Ranking everything is more of a challenge here than on the console counterparts. They require a highscore from a stage completed under a minute.
