Sonic Heroes

Sonic Heroes is a 2003 3D platform game developed by Sonic Team USA and published by Sega as part of the Sonic the Hedgehog series. The player races a team of series characters through levels to amass rings, defeat robots. And collect the seven Chaos Emeralds needed to defeat Doctor Eggman. Within each level, the player switches between the team’s three characters, who each have unique abilities, to overcome obstacles. Sonic Heroes abandons the action-adventure and exploration-based gameplay of its predecessors Sonic Adventure (1998) and Sonic Adventure 2 (2001) and instead returns to the linear style of Sega Genesis-era Sonic games.

However, the game was the first multi-platform Sonic game, produced for the GameCube, PlayStation 2, Xbox, and Windows platforms. Sonic Team USA’s Yuji Naka and Takashi Iizuka led the game’s 20-month development. The team wanted Sonic Heroes to appeal beyond Sonic series fans and so designed a game that did not depend on the continuation of its predecessors. But the team revived elements not seen since the Genesis Sonic games, such as special stages and the Chaotix characters. Sega released Sonic Heroes in Japan in December 2003 and worldwide in early 2004.

Moreover, reviewers were polarized. They praised the game’s focus on fast gameplay and noted its similarities to the series’ original 2D entries, a choice that some considered an improvement from the Sonic Adventure games. Also reviewers highlighted its graphic design and detailed environments and textures. However, Critics, derided the game for not addressing the problems of previous series games, such as poor camera, controls and voice acting. But despite mixed reviews, the game was commercially successful, with 3.41 million copies sold by 2007.

  1. GodfreyPouros

It’s a bundle of fun and it’s meant for mostly single player stuff but other than that, 8/10.

  2. yvette

I purchased the game for my daughter. She loves anything with sonic in it. She enjoys the game and says it is a lot of fun. Im glad I brought it for her.

  3. Angela Plaisance

    great

  4. BrannonFeest

haven’t played it all the way thru but so far so good.

  5. Melanie Chitsaz

This is excactly how i wanted this game to be like. Super speed, super sound, super graphics, gameplay, super heros! A bunch of levels. There are four teams to choose from, each team with their own difficulty level and missions. THere are about 10-12 missions for each team, and each team has their own special team move, (Team sonics is my favorite.) PLus! the missions aren’t that hard, and arent that easy, so it will take u a fare amount of time to beat them, but it isn’t overly frustrating, like most games are now a days. Dispose of all of the lousy reviews of this game, their just being fussy, this is the real review for this game. Go Sonic!

I love this game, don’t care what people say.

  7. Fairy Gardens

This was my very first look at the “fastest thing alive” and to put it bluntly I’ve been a die-hard fan ever since! The story is exciting, and fast-paced, but also great for people who are new to the Sonic world. There are four different teams to play as, all with there own stories and difficulty levels. They are Team Rose(easy), Team Sonic(medium), Team Dark(Hard), and Team Chaotix(mission-based).The level designs and backgrounds are Awesome! They include things like Jungles and canyons. There are 14 levels total. The gameplay is relaxed and casual. A new feture allows you to play as three characters at a time insted of one and you can switch the “leader” at any time. There are many different moves to use depending on who the leader is and a cool new ultimate move called team blast. Each Team has there own team blast. The Special stages are reminiscent of the ones from Sonic the Hedgehog 2 on Genesis, only a lot nicer to look at. The graphics are top-notch and to top it all off what would a Sonic game be without speed! I own over 100 different video games now, but this game is and probably always will be my favorite game. A true Sonic Masterpiece! Way to go SEGA!!!!!

Over all, I think that Sonic Heroes is a great game. Like all games, it has some pros and cons. Here are some of them. Pros- In story mode you can choose from four teams of three, easily switching between the characters on your team. Each team has a different difficulty level along with a little bit different story mode. There are alot of unlockable multiplayer (2-player) games. Also this game has a tutorilal. The enviornments in the game are really cool. Cons-The game is a little bit glitchy, but not enough that it should keep you from buying it. Some times the game can get confusing but if you read the manual and go through the tutorial you probably can figure it out(besides who wants a game that takes them less than a week to finish? Not me). Also some people say that it is sort of like a racing game. You are supposed to go through the stages fast, but on your first time through It’s not necessary. I would reccomend Sonic Heroes to anyone that is considering purchasing it.
