Before I get started I would like to point something out, the PSP is superior to the DS in my opinion but it’s much more pricy. Remember, the DS may not be as good but it’s pretty decent expecially if your low on cash. The psp is an awsome system and at this time has more games then the DS as well as the ability to play movies. The UMD’s are awsome and don’t scratch easily. DOn’t throw out your GBA SP yet though, it still has an arse load of fun gameds and is worth it to keep while you wait for new PSP games. The games are excellent, I remember my mom picked up the wrong game for me at wal-mart but I still ended up loving the random game. With all the multiple things you can do, the sexy and sleak design, the PSP is an awsome system.Speaking of the layout and such, it’s freaking sweet. It fits your hand much better then a DS, or heck even an SP, and the mini-thumb stick is awsome and feels much better then you’d expect from looking at it.I have found some faults, like constantly needing to clean the screen and how easy finger prints get on it but those are just minor things. Overall the PSP is, in my personal opinion, the perfect handheld for this time.Pros:Best handheld games out thereMore games then the DSMoviesMusicPhotosCan play emulaters(heard rumours that newer versions wont do this, but mines pretty new so I doubt this)Awsome movie and photo quality.ComfortableSexy!Cons:Gets dusty and attracts finger prints easily.Somewhat expensive.DS fanboys may not shut up when you ge.

    1. GREAT GRAPHICS2. AWSOME LC-DC SCREEN3. VALUE PACK IS SWEETOK SO I GOT ONE… IT IS AWSOME!! NOW WHEN U GET TRY TO KEEP IT CLEAN… IT IS LIKE A SMALL PLAZMA SCREEN SO IT IS SO CLEAR THAT EVERYTHING IS bound TO SHOW. NOW AFTER 3-4 WEEKS U MIGHT HAVGE SOME DOTS ON YOUR PSP BUT IT DOESNT AFFECT THE GAME. I KNOW THOSE DOTS MAYBE ANNOYING BUT THOSE SCREEN PROTECTERS DO NOTHING. ALL THEY DO IS KEEP THE SAME AMOUNT OF STUFF ON YOUR PSP AND CREATE AIR BUBBLES ON THE SCREEN. NOW IF U WERE TO GET A PSP…. HERE ARE SOME GAME TIPS ON WHAT IS HOT AND WHAT IS NOT…1. EVERONE SAYS THAT THE 989 NBA GAME SUKS WELL IT DOESNT. I OWN IT AND U JUST HAVE TO PLAY 3-4 GAMES AND U GET THE HANG OF IT.2. DO NOT AND ABSOLUTLEY DONT GET TWISTED METAL HEAD-ON… ALL U DO IS DRIVE AROUND IN A TRUCK TRYING TO SHOOT LITTLE LITTLE LITTLE BAD GUYS. THE CONTROLS STINK.3. I KNOW RIDGE RACER LOOKS COOL BUT IT ISNT THAT GREAT. SAME OLD SAME OLD KIND OF RIDGE RACER GAME. DONT BE FOOLED.4. NEED FOR SPEED UNDERGROUND RIVALS IS THE HOTTEST RACING GAME OUT FOR THE PSP. I OWN THIS ONE 2 AND IT IS SWEET.5. NOW FOR THE CONTROVERSY …. ATV OFFROAD FURY BLAZIN’ TRAILS… THE GRAPHICS ARENT THAT GREAT AND THE GAME ONLINE ISNT GOOD AT ALL SO IF I WERE U JUST WAIT A LITTLE BIT.. THEY WILL COME OUT WILL ANOTHER AND BETTER ATV…6. WORLD TOUR SOCCER- NOT GOOD GRAPHICS … NON-RELALISTIC GAME PLAY… THAT IS ABOUT IT….7. METAL GEAR ACID IS JUST BASICALLY A CARD GAME. NO ACTION WHAT SO EVER.8. GRETZKY NHL IS THE SAME AS GR.

Don’t believe the bozos whining about dead pixels on the PSP.Mine arrived yesterday, and it works perfectly. NO dead pixels, NO sticking square button — but yes, the front of the PSP is a fingerprint magnet.Fortunately they give you a cleaning cloth to handle that problem, and the rest, as they say, is gravy.I’m not as keen on the multimedia uses as some owners seem to be, unless Sony decides to pack in UMD copies at no extra charge with their DVD releases.I bought the PSP just as a portable gaming device, and at this it succeeds brilliantly, giving you PS2-quality games in a sleek little unit that looks and feels much more like a high-end piece of A/V gear than a plastic Nintendo toy.Highly recommended, and not unreasonably priced at $250 for a value pack including a soft case, wrist strap, game-save memory card, earbuds with remote, and — for the first million customers — a copy of Spiderman 2 on UMD. Oh yes, plus that very necessary cleaning cloth to wipe off the fingerprints of all your friends and colleagues who will want to get their paws on this tiny titan!

Unable to resist the hype, I bought a PSP today. As others have said, it is extremely impressive. The TFT display is wide, bright, and beautiful. The case is glossy and shows fingerprints but is very attractive as well. The controls are above average for a handheld device, and onboard sound is great, especially with (included) headphones.Yes, it’s an expensive toy, but in the same price ballpark with similar portable tech items such as digital cameras, iPods, and PDAs such as Pocket PCs and Palm devices. The PSP has aspects of all these devices. The Value Pack comes with everything you need to get started except for a game: an adequate recharcheable battery, a small but usable memory stick, power adapter, remote control headphones, slipcover. None of these accessories are of super-high-quality, but it’s good that the basics are included. Spider-Man 2 the movie in Sony’s proprietary UMD format is a nice bonus and shows off the video quality. In my opinion this isn’t an essential purchase if you don’t already have a home console system — it makes sense to get a Playstation 2, a GameCube, or an XBOX before springing for one of these — but if you’re a gadget or game fan, it’s certainly worth considering if you have the cash to spare.

Ever since Sony introduced the original PlayStation to an unsuspecting public back in 1995, there have been rumours aplenty about the electronics giant producing a handheld version. It might have taken a decade, but the rumours are now made flesh in the form of the PlayStation Portable – PSP to its friends.FeaturesAs with the iPod, the design of the PSP is one of its most appealing attributes. It’s weighty but well-balanced in your hands with two sets of controls left and right of the screen, aping the PlayStation’s joypad. It can play games, movies (purchased on discs or any MPEG-4 file), music (MP3 or ATRAC) and display photographs, and even comes with a built-in Wi-Fi connection. When it comes to games, the PSP certainly holds its own against the Nintendo DS with a raft of great titles including portable versions of Ridge Racer and Metal Gear Acid. But our favourite two launch titles are WipeOut Pure, which is an updated version of the classic sci-fi racer; and sleeper-hit-in-waiting Everybody’s Golf, a game that is so addictive we think you’ll be playing it for months.PerformanceThe most outstanding thing about the PSP is its display, a 4.3-inch widescreen LCD that is bright and clear. In low-light conditions, the backlit screen is superb. However, like most portable games consoles, the screen is almost useless outdoors. The console’s stereo speakers are decidedly underwhelming but the supplied headphones make up for it. The battery lasts just five hours on a two-hour char.

Every console would fail if we rated it solely on the merits of its software library/functionality at launch. Give it some time, there are some really sweet things in the pipeline. The DS is an interesting system but if you want traditional gameplay then PSP is the way to go because the next Gameboy won’t be out in the next few years and GBA software is dwindling, its sad but true. I love my GBA more than my home consoles but I am rarley able to spend time on home consoles and love gameplay on the go. PSP impressed me with its power and beauty, a power that will see 3rd party titles by the thousands like its big brother Playstation. Good things come to those that wait. GBA had 3 games worth buying when it first released… give Sony a break! And about all these problems with the hardware, get a PSP thats not broke, it is under warranty sheesh!

Well I’ve had my PSP for over two years. It’s been on a deployment with me as well and all over the planet. It’s typical Sony…rock solid and high quality. The display rivals my TFT on my laptop..crystal clear. With a 2GB stick it does it all…I have mp4 movies on it..tons of MP3’s,pictures and can even do some wifi internet surfing (good at surfing stinks if you gotta type) It’s value is unmatched…yeah you can get an ipod…listen to music or try to watch a video on a postage size screen but that’s it… I can surf the web, play unmatched games, watch a Mp4 or UMD movie, listen to music etc all in one nice package…The battery is still going many hours between charges. Get a good pelican cover and screen saver and it’s indestructible. I hauled the thing around in my cargo pocket all the time and though I broke a pelican hinge cover they came through and replaced it free…even free shipping. So if you want it all in one package this is the bomb! About the only negative I can think of is it could use a little more volume…on a plane ear buds are OK but I think headphones would be really good but I didn’t have any…too much space.

This machine is absolutely amazing. Ever since they announced that Sony was making the PSP I was waiting eagerly for the release. Then finally the day came and I went to a store to get one they were sold out. All the people that stood out of work and school got theirs and I ended waiting until that Friday to get one. When I got it come put the battery in and started to play I was shocked on how good the game (Twisted Metal) looked. The graphics looked like I was playing it on my Xbox or PS2. Plus it had more processing power (by 133 MHz) than my first computer. I was really looking forward to the online aspect but I had to wait until the summer when I finally got a wireless router (Linksys WRT54GS) and tried the online thing. Did the updates and found out their was nothing to do online since those features weren’t setup at the time. A few months later they released the web browser. It was nice but it lacked allot of features a normal web browser on a PC has. Couldn’t access some websites, allot longer loading times even with a fast wireless broadband connection, sometimes it wouldn’t allow you to see images and it is impossible to play online based video’s on it. Not to mention typing was a pain. I hear they have a keyboard out for it but since the browser is lacking I wouldn’t get it. But didn’t expect much since its a portable console not a Palm Pilot. I hope they eventually make online gaming a widespread thing because that would be amazing. Really like online gaming reall.

The PSP is without a doubt the single most exciting piece of hardward that has yet been released. For the first time, we are able to play games on the go that are equal in terms of graphics and sound to the consoles of the day. In fact, I think the PSP is the most amazing piece of portable tech, period. The ipod’s got nothing on the PSP!Let me break it down.1. First is the industrial design. It is the sleekest, sexiest, most futuristic design to be found on any media device. It brings me joy everytime I look at it.2. Then there is that screen. It is absolutely gorgeous to look at. Everything you display on it looks absolutely fantastic. The amount of pixels it has for its size makes for very high resolution. The amount of colors that it can display really is unheard of for a screen of that size. Whether you are looking at pictures, watching video or playing a game, everything looks amazingly crisp, colorful, punchy and highly detailed.3. Functionality. The amount of different functions that this device is capable of is astounding. You can play games with console quality graphics, watch a UMD movie, watch mp4 video, listen to your mp3 music collection or audiobooks in mp3 format, view your digital pictures, brows the web, or use it as a portable media transfer device. I have used it for all of these things and it works very well doing every one of them.I really do believe that the PSP will revolutionize portable gaming. I give it my highest recomendation.

I have been playing videogames for 20 yrs and I own a PSP and a DS. I clearly remember past handheld battles fought (GB, Gamegear, Lynx, TGP, Nomad, etc). For me the real mark for both systems will be based on the software they support. While I am an avid supporter of Nintendo and their products I will admit that I have felt a pretty under whelmed by the GBA catalogue and the lacking DS catalogue. After all, it is 2005 and I was used to handheld technology being half a step behind the consoles, not two whole steps. Frankly, when I turned on my PSP for the first time it blew me away. This is something neither the GBA or DS managed to do (Nintendo really needs the competition). In addition to mildly sub PS2 graphics the PSP can generate atmospheric lighting and movement effects smoothly. Wipeout Pure looks and plays better than most PS2 launch titles did. The analogue nub is simply an overdue addition and is carried out well on the PSP. What can I say other than I love my PSP because it feels like a good technological match for the state of videogames in 2005. Again, speaking frankly, the DS feels technologically cramped. So far the only real area where the PSP is lacking is it’s speakers. Even at full volume you can barely hear them, however the PSP does come with decent headphones to compensate for this. I would totally recommend the PSP if you are a serious videogame enthusiast. To put is simply, the bigger screen and better graphics come off as revolutionary. I look forward.
