Simply put, this is not the same planet of the week formula with a main story arc showing up every few episodes, there is a main story arc that evolves in every episode. It does have a slower start, and it not without its flaws, but by the end of season 2 all I can think of is that I want more. Nothing is really finished, they built up what could possibly be the best Stargate series yet. This needs to be finished properly, and I really hope that someone picks it up and finishes this series. Now all of the above being stated, A lot of the main characters develop as the series progresses and you learn a lot about them and why they are they way they are. The character development in this show is great, a few develop rather quickly and some you don’t really see to much growth until season 2. The story is unique and interesting, the plot shows a lot more creativity that SG-1 or Atlantis, I love both don’t get me wrong, this is a different kind of Stargate experience that I found refreshing, planet of the week did get old. It is a really sad thing that happened to this show and like a few other shows that retrolio has picked up I hope this is one of them, because the potential here is unreal.

This Stargate subseries, very different from the other various Stargate series, was excellent. It was a shame it was cancelled after two seasons. I’ve always hoped someone would pick it up and continue it.Putting a mixed bag of Stargate military, scientists, and civilians together in a survival situation on a truly distant (multiple galaxies away!) ship, empty, built by the Ancients referenced in other Stargate series, was an imaginative idea. The actors do a great job of turning what is usually an action-packed series into both a physical and psychological struggle. At the time, this was part of the pioneering attempts at making science-fiction series where the characters are as important as the science-fiction realm they are in.

This show is great! We meet new stargate universe enemies, learn more about the ancients, and enjoy a constant flow of new ideas, materials, and surprises to keep things exciting.I would absolutely pre-order new SGU seasons. Plus the storyline ended perfectly to be able to bring back all of the original cast without trying to explain the age change.

I liked this expansion of the Stargate… Universe. I liked the random planets and enemies, despite being CGI. I did not like the lack of knives. No one brought one? Not a single person ever used a knife in the show, not even an improvised one from the plentiful bit of scrap steel. I cannot recall anyone even mentioning a knife or how one would make a good portion of what they did incredibly easy. I thought a knife was standard equipment for all military. Not even the civilians were carrying an EveryDay Carry pack? Silliness.

Stargate Universe is much more serious than its predecessors. There’s no silly filler episodes, it’s just one constant struggle to survive. The military and civilian crew clash, which leads to mounting tensions. The characters cover a whole range of personalities and even your most dislikable character, has motives that are hard to argue with. I was devastated when this was cancelled. I think the world had decided it had enough of Stargate after SG1 and Atlantis.

This final iteration of the Star Gate series was by far, the best for Sci-Fi enthusiasts. It has better scripts, better acting, far better character development and much better plot/continuity than the previously (with all due respect) inferior star gate offerings. It is a crying shame that it did not get the investment for continued filming before the “reality” TV rot started to set in. Even as a made-for-TV series, It is high caliber in its concept, its execution and its entertainment value, assuming you are not looking for brain – dead Kardashian-style B/S. It really develops its own, at times quite “gritty”, character in the second series when it finally “back-seats” the ridiculous and unnecessary ties back to the campy Star Gate original series and the tired plot lines that were exhausted in that offering, until late in the series when it quite unnecessarily shows up again. Methinks it was all about providing jobs for otherwise has-been actor/contributors to the first series’s. Recommended for any Sci-Fi enthusiast who still has a quorum of brain cells not killed off by the modern pathetic-ism served up as so called entertainment by networks these days. Most Millennial’s probably wont get it, and while it is most definitely not hard-core SF in the vein of Heinlein, Asimov or Clarke et-al, Sci-Fi enthusiasts will still find it worth a look for its bridge between broad appeal TV series and a serious attempt to provide a realistic scenario to be explored and developed. We d.

This is a great series with characters that are believable. Bring it back for a season and a finale.

Stargate Universe is my personal favorite and different from the rest of the Stargate franchise. The beginning can be a bit boring, but stick with it! They need to establish life on the ship as part of the story line. Many of my friends disagree with me, but I think it was an awesome series.

It took me a while to warm up to this series because I liked SG-1 and Atlantis so much and this is a much darker show. Many of the characters are deeply flawed or have unlikable personality traits (although some are very likable). At the same time, it’s the characters very complexity that makes them so interesting. I enjoyed thinking about what it would be like to be trapped halfway across the universe with so few resources and the “wrong crew.” I also liked how they slowly started to grow and change, some for the worse but many for the better. One of the things I disliked about Atlantis is that only Rodney McKay experienced true character growth as the series went on. However, these characters all have room for growth and the writers started to explore this before the premature (in my opinion) ending to the series. I’m disappointed that the series didn’t get more seasons. I was pulled in completely by this series and would have loved to see these characters grow (or self-destruct) as they continued their journey.

SGU was definitely a show ahead of its time. Today, we are accustomed to shows that go deep into character development and that operate in a serialized fashion. Back then, we weren’t too accustomed to focusing on characters over action and requiring the viewer to keep up with past episodes to know what was going on in the current episode. No, SGU wasn’t as fun as SG1 or SGA but neither of those shows had such a focus on the characters and their day-to-day plight.
