As a life long fan of the Metroid series, this installment was just a joy to play through. Without spoilers, I really enjoyed this game and will add it to the list of games I play yearly.

What a fantastic game. Loved every minute of it. Great controls, just enough difficulty to let you figure some things out, but not be stuck too long. Really awesome, especially if you grew up playing the original game. Brought me back to my childhood. But really a terrific game on its own.

  3. Cody Smith

The manga is great, the show may stink, but this game is really fun! Its a fighting game that has all of your fav pirates like Luffy, Zolo, Nami, ect. Also, the game has some cool mutil-player fun and the levels are great too. Just pick you fav. character (mine is Arlong) and let the fight begin! NOTE: Bandai has also made the Zatch Bell game, so that might be good too! Look for it in October!

  4. Raymond T. Nichols

Fantastic game that will offer about 15 hours of gameplay. It’s a challenging game that drives you to get better and figure out different strategies. It’s a welcome game to the Metroid series in my eyes. Any fan of metroid would be missing out if they didn’t pick up this game.

I have a pretty long history with the Metroid series, and I think this is definitely one of the best of the 2D Metroid games. I think too many people get so hung up on nostalgia for the older games that they can’t accept how good Samus Returns is. I think it is easily the most playable 2D game in the series control-wise, it’s more streamlined making certain movements and weapon switching easier and thus more fun. Being able to stop and aim in any direction is just awesome. People complain about the counter system, but once you get through the early areas of the game, you don’t use it nearly as much- but it keeps you on your toes. Having the map on the bottom screen is immensely preferable to having to press a button to go to a second screen, back and forth, back and forth. The 3D effect is excellent in this game- it really feels like you are looking into an alien world, and it really adds to the atmosphere. The graphics are great- nicely detailed polygons, however the frame rate isn’t what I would have liked- it’s all a bit juddery, and 60fps would have made the game feel and play much better (the Kirby games were able to pull off 60fps- I’d prefer they dial the graphics down if necessary so they can target 60fps). There really should have been a Switch version as well, that does run at 60fps.I do wish there were more boss fights/variety, but that’s a weakness of the game that SR is based on- fighting the same Metroids over and over gets a little repetitive. There are only 3 m.

This is a Great remake of the first metroid game I played when I was a kid. This game works best with the 3D on because the background plays a big part of this 2.5D game. The game is also hard and the enemies have extra health to force you to use the new counter move. The scan Aion power dosn’t work relay well and you still have to bomb every thing to show each block icon. The other Aion powers have better uses. The Ice Beam dosn’t work for platform till you use a full charge from it with the charge beam. This game dosn’t use the super run / shine spark like SM and AM2R. I hated trying to get those moves to work so that’s a big plus.super missiles and bombs come so late it just feels like it was tacked on.The developer did a good job of picking lower amount of polygons to help avoid the very bad aliseing the 3ds has. However they mixed the fights up with all the metriods so even if your fighting the same form it would do other things like run away to another room etc. They also added some other bosses that weren’t in the original game. I recommend this game to all 3ds owners. This is defendant portable game of the year (since for some reason switch games don’t count) and must have if you own a 3ds.

I wish they remade more classic Game Boy games, but if I had to choose one, I’m glad it was this one. Since the original Metroid II is one of my all time favorites, I only wish it had been remade sooner! Not only are my favorite elements here, there are new features and abilities I could never have dreamed of. Nintendo could have lazily rehashed elements of Metroid: Zero Mission, but instead gave us a 3D side scroller that feels modern and also ties in with the Metroid Prime series, and still feels like a 2D game. The analog control is great, especially using the ability to freely fire in any direction. Overall I find it challenging but fair, and this is a killer addition to the 3DS library, possibly the swan song of the system? Let’s hope not, but if the system ended on this note, I would be ok with it.

  8. Benji

Fun graphics; when you press start during the game, the command chart or special attack keys are presented. A couple of characters to unlock and just a good fun game.

  9. Valis

Absolutely Love the 2d Metroid series. Waited so long for a new Metroid game and this doesn’t disappoint! The new melee mechanic is neat and adds a new dimension to the game but it feels like that’s the new primary way to defeat all the enemies now. Needs to be more varied with different strategies so you don’t just do the same thing over again. I wish I could customize the controls, not that the default is bad. Not happy about special features of the game being hidden behind Amiibo’s that of course Nintendo didn’t make enough of or they did but tons of morons bought trying to resell for 2-3x the retail value. In general I’m very happy with this title. I haven’t finished it yet but everything I’ve played so far has been really good.On a non review note I wish they made a side scrolling (2d) version for the Nintendo Switch. Still waiting for good games for that console and unfortunately the Metroid game planned for that console is a first person shooter. =(

  10. Metragoon

This version of Metroid 2 Return of Samus really feels like what a remake should be. Add enough good new things without changing the main campaign and it delivers on all fronts. I’m a huge fan of Super Metroid which was the first game I ever played in the series and from then I was hooked. I eventually played all the 2D Metroid games including the original and Metroid 2, but I’ve also played the 3D titles like Metroid Prime and Metroid Other M. I wouldn’t say I was a huge fan of Metroid 2, but this version has brought the game back to life in ways I cannot begin to describe. If anyone reading this review loves traditional Metroid, Metroid 2, Super Metroid, Metroid Fusion, or Metroid Zero Mission; This is definitely your Metroid game. My only complaint is this game would be even better on the Nintendo Switch…, but I think I can understand the logic behind why it came out for the 3DS instead and I believe it has to do with originally being on Gameboy and now on 3DS which is the evolution of the Gameboy as the Switch is to the NES. If you own a 3DS and want to experience a true Metroid game I highly recommend Metroid Samus Returns!Pros:- Solid frames per second- True Metroid Experience- Amazing graphics and music- New features and cinematic eventsCons:- Wish it was also for Nintendo Switch
