used to play this game when i was a wee little tot about 6 or 7 and could not stop playing it due to the adventure that i found in this awesome game.was going through my closet yesterday and in a shoe box was a ton of SNES games from way back then ( super mario world, donkey kong, ninja turtles, breath of fire.. and at the bottom was this game.)i got out the old trusted snes and started playing it and its funny how after a decade of not playing it the game it still unvelievable and fun to watch and play ;)

It’s been almost 15-years since i’ve last played this game for the SNES, just before the system itself stopped working. But after watching various YouTube videos of other people playing it for a 100% Item collection/Speed Run, it practically brought back memories of the last time I played this action-packed thrill-ride. So when my new FC Twin NES/SNES system arrives in the mail, along with the actual game, it’s about time i’d take a bit of a stroll down memory lane by exploring (or in this case “re-exploring”) the Planet Zebes.

I would without a doubt rate this as one of the best games for the Super Nintendo series hands down, and it even gets a place of honor among my current list of favorite games of all time (a list that includes the Half-Life series, Halo and StarCraft). The original Metroid was a side scroller, but different from the others in that there weren’t defined “worlds”, instead you needed to gain power items which allowed you to reach new areas or blast open doors you previously couldn’t open. The game further evolved with the sequal Metroid 2: Return of Samus (sadly only on the Gameboy system), again a good game, and only worked to further tweek and advance the game play. And Super Metroid? It continues to up the ante, giving us smooth control, amazing (by Super Nintendo standards) graphics, awesome gameplay features (the ability to equip yourself with new beams, and even turn off weapons on a status screen), simply beautiful music, huge and challenging bosses (I mean HUGE! Some of these bosses are two screen large!) and a maze/world to explore. In this game, you must travel, explore, and battle through the planet Zebes (again) to find the last surviving Metroid, a being that can be used to dominate galactic civilization before the Space Pirates can use it.As stated, you have to explore this planet’s inner maze-like structure, gather power items, defeat several major bosses and gain access to the inner levels of the Space Pirate base. The only thing I would complain about in this game is.

Everyone remembers “Metroid” for the NES and its sequel for the Game Boy, “Metroid II: Return of Samus.” Well, third time’s the charm for this series as Samus Aran must hunt down and capture the Metroid larva that had been taken from a security lab. Once again, she battles through Zebes. Read on to see WHY this is the best Metroid game in the series and why I think it’s the best game on the system.THE GOODThe capabilities of the SNES allowed Super Metroid to far surpass its predecessors with cooler and smoother graphics, eerie music, and more areas to explore. Samus simply looks awesome in this game. The map is HUGE and you will spend hours finding hidden stuff and more enemies to blast. There is also a wall jump technique here that’s introduced. I was also enthralled by the EXTREMELY LARGE bosses in this game. These are probably the biggest bosses in any game. The story is also very engrossing and has good use of flashbacks to previous Metroid games. WOW. I can’t emphasize this game enough; WOW.THE BADWhat bad? That’s right, NONE!OVERALLReading other reviews on retrolio (and “Metroid Fusion” in particular), I cannot believe all the reviews “Metroid Prime” is getting. Don’t get me wrong, it’s certainly a good game, but it is NOWHERE NEAR THE QUALITY OF THIS GAME. By far, this is the best the Super Nintendo ever produced and it is therefore, the best in the series. Sure, the graphics may have aged (note to you gamers: just because Donkey Kong Country followed less.

I want to first say that this is the first time Ive reviewed anything. I dont write reviews because I rarely ready them, but after this transaction I thought it was necessary.I ordered Super Metroid from JHSalesINC and received the package in a speedy fashion. When I opened the package, I noticed this was not the game I ordered. Not only was it not the game I ordered, but it was a cheaper game. I thought Ive been had. At this point I could have either cut my loses and kept the game, or contact JHSalesINC (Jesse) to see what was up.Naturally a little angry, I sent Jesse an email to get things straightened out. He emailed me back within 20 minutes (this was at 11pm) to apologize for the mishap. He said I could ship the incorrect package back to him, he will refund the shipping cost, and will contact the other dude that got my package. Now I was faced with another decision, do I just keep the game, or ship it back to him? This could be some schmuck that just outed me 60 bucks. Cautiously, I shipped the game back him wondering if Id ever hear back from him. When the package got to Jesse he did email me back, but this time with news that the other buyer who has my game, would not respond back to Jesse. Since this happened, he offered to refund me the money for the game as well as the shipping cost. Looking at my account today he did do that and I am refunded the full amount. The moral of the story was not to point out that Jesse sent me the wrong stuff, people mess up so.

You were very late on delivery, but the cartridge was in such great condition that it made up for it. The cartridge itself looked like it was just opened frm the box. No scratches, dents, writing, the label is intact and still has the shiny gloss look to it.
