This game is awesome!! I couldn’t buy it at the time but I went and rented it for a week. I never wanted to put down the controller. You never know what’s going to be around the next turn. The monsters in the game are unbelievable. Whoever came up with them has a wild imagination. If you tend to get bored with games fast get this game because it will change that. I hope that this game comes out with a sequel because I will be sure to buy it too.

The game itself hasn’t gotten the positive reviews it’s deserved over the years.. It absolutely ROCKS! You are Torque, a man convicted for slaughtering his wife and children where, in prison, he discovers that things aren’t quite what they appeared to be. The controls (XBOX) are a bit tricky getting fluent with at first, but, when they become your second gaming nature (which doesn’t take too long), watch out… hours of creepy fun. And, one of the best qualities that The Suffering offers is that you can choose to be good or evil with your gameplay, what you choose will effect the conclusion, and, the side you chose to be on in The Suffering part 1 can be automatically read and transfered over into the Suffering part 2- Ties That Bind (being if you kept the saved data from The Suffering part 1 in your counsel). This is a staple for Horror/Survival genre gamers and a good ol’ scary time for everyone. Now, buy the game, load it up, turn the lights off and prepare for something your won’t forget anytime soon.

The Suffering (XBox version reviewed) is by far the most disturbing, violent, foul-mouthed, and perverse game I have ever experienced (the only one to come close is Manhunt – which is also all of the above – but in a much sleazier way….Manhunt, while a very guilty pleasure, makes you feel the need to shower after playing). The Suffering, on the other hand, is outstanding in every aspect – including the setting (a prison with a blood-soaked history steeped in violence and corruption). Into this environment, without warning, comes an unspeakable evil – and here is where the gory tale begins. Someone finally got it right when it came to translating real horror to the console game (Alone in the Dark, and the Silent Hill, House of the Dead, Clock Tower and Resident Evil series must now take a back seat…and I do not say this lightly as I am a big fan!!!). You play the game as Torque, a brutish killer on death row for the murder of his ex-wife and kids – a crime he has no memory of committing – who is suddenly freed from his cell when the carnage erupts. I cannot begin to truly describe the sense of dread that you experience playing this game – and much of it comes from fleeting images, whispered voices, sounds of graphic slaughter, and the terror-filled screams of the victims (inmates and guards alike). It is what you do not see that is the most frightening. Also the brief flashbacks that the protagonist experiences truly enhances the overall fear factor. Add to all of th.

Wow!! I knew this game was going to be scary. But this game gives me the chills every time I play it. It’s amazing!Right from the start of the game you know this game is going to be crazy. I only play this game at night, so maybe I’m crazy. The game has such a realistic feel to it. The control is very similar to Halo when it comes to moving and looking around. Both control sticks are used – one for movement and the other for looking around. The graphics are really cool. Everything looks very realistic. But the best part about this game is the sound. I think the sound is the most gripping part of the game. The sound and the visuals are very gripping. Just picture one of those really scary movies that had your heart pounding every time you heard a little sound. There’s nothing like a good scare. Especially when it comes from a videogame. This game is also very gory with lots of blood – just the way I like it. For the best gaming experience, I recommend playing this game at night, in the dark. It will scare the Hell Out Of You!!

This game is very nostalgic for me, so my review is very biased. If you’re under 21 I don’t know how much you would enjoy this game. The things that make this game great are commonplace in most games now. But this was cutting edge when it was released. Also, this will work on the 360, but the sequel will not. In this game you play as Torque, a convict in a Max security Boston prison. You are convicted of killing your wife and kid in a brutal fashion. Soon as you are placed on death row things go crazy. The prison is over run by monsters and ghosts of criminals that have died in the prison. So the whole game is about trying to survive and escape the prison. One of the best features is becoming a monster yourself. That is one of the weapons in your arsenal you can use to fight back. There’s also puzzles to solve as well, so it has a little bit of everything. The game has the same graphics as gta3 and plays 1st or 3rd person, just like fallout. Also like fallout, your decisions in the game effect the story. If you still have an original xbox I suggest playing this on that because the sequel will continue off of your save of this game continuing the story. Since the graphics are dated it losses some of its scare factor, but its still tons of fun to play. These things are in most games now, but if you’re old enough to remember how games use to be you’ll be blown away at how ahead off its time this game is.

I enjoy video games, and I certainly enjoyed this one. It’s a regular shoot’em up MF. But, what makes it so different is the amazing creepiness, the music, the lighting, and the fact that you can walk through almost a whole level, and and not see a thing. The background sounds are spooky, the music swells and fades… then, BAM!!! A freaky beastie jumps out of a dark corner and I jump out of my seat.My wife would watch this game over my shoulder and get just as freaked. It was like a good scary movie that you get to walk through. The reason I didn’t give it five stars is the linear plot/play line was a bit tedious. If it were more like GTA, where you could just explore the island, that would make this a really great game.

The Suffering, from Midway games, was a pleasant surprise early this year. It is a horror game with an emphasis on action over survival and puzzle solving, which should please gamers like myself, who often can’t find the patience for Resident Evil or Silent Hill games. The action takes place from either a third or first-person perspective, and allows you to switch instantly between the two with the touch of a button. And while there are a few genuinely creepy moments, the action almost never lets up. There aren’t a great variety of enemy creatures, butthe ones that are there sport some awesome character models, and have pretty cool backstories. As for weapons, you’ll find a handful of melee weapons and firearms to blast away the swarming creatures. Medicine functions as health, just like Max Payne, which works well, because you can save it for when you are desperate and then replenish your health with a single button press. The graphics are impressive with little touches, like your charcater’s shirt gardually becoming soaked with blood as you fight through each level. Puzzles are simple and easy, not overly complicated like in some survival horror games, so the action will keep coming. The game is extremely violent, but is worth checking out. I just recommend renting first; it is not very long, and can easily be beaten over the course of a five-night rental.

the action is good for the most part but I ran into glitches where npc would die too easily or they would disapear completely(this happens rarely) but I feel I should mention it otherwise. Horror part is done not so obvious you will have enmemies pop up from obscure places and it gets the job done. Monster design is one thing this game nails perfectly all the monsters are unique and looks erie and grotesque and its interesting reading about what each of the creatures symbolizes. This game is a must buy for horror game audience.

The Suffering is quite scary, great sound effects, and awesomely gross horror movie type monsters. This is definitely a great game. I bought it because of all of the great reviews and was not dissappointed. My husband was laughing at me for screaming and jumping when my character was being attacked in the basement. I like that it’s not just a prison shoot’em up game – you can shoot guards, prisoners, and the monsters. I have to shut the game off after just a little bit of play because my heart is racing from being scared.

As we look into the Sub-genre of Dark Psychological/Paranormal Action games, “The Suffering” is among the top. With similar elements to great games such as “Manhunt,” “Ghosthunter,” and “Shadowman” (the dark past) just to name a few, Torque is the equivalent to The Punisher, but more so within his own sub-genre. A great story unfolds as you play through only to lead into the sequel which upheld the integrity of the franchise. Though this first installment is the greater of the two, the second tells you more about who Torque really is and was. It’s worth whatever price you pay for it, can’t miss out on one of the greatest…enough said.
