True Crime Streets of LA
True Crime Streets of LA is a 2003 open world action-adventure video game develop by Luxoflux and publish by Activision for GameCube, PlayStation 2 and Xbox in November 2003, for Microsoft Windows in May 2004. And by Aspyr for Mac OS X in March 2005. A mobile phone adaptation was release in November 2004. The game tells the story of Nicholas Kang, an uncompromising Los Angeles police officer who is recruit into the Elite Operations Division in order to investigate a series of bombings in Chinatown. As he delves further into the case, he discovers it may be connected to the disappearance of his police-officer father twenty years previously. However, the game features a 240-square-mile (622 km2) re-creation of a large part of Los Angeles, including most of Beverly Hills and Santa Monica, with most street names, landmarks and highways reproduced accurately.
Streets of LA receive generally mix-to-positive reviews. Many critics praise the ambitious nature of the game, its setting. And the differentiation between itself and Grand Theft Auto III. Also the branching storyline and the overall ‘feel’. Common criticisms. However, were graphical and technical problems, an unlikable protagonist, and poorly implement gameplay. But the game was a commercial success, selling over three million units worldwide across all platforms. And the True Crime franchise continue in 2005, with the release of True Crime: New York City.

This game has 3 different modes besides walking around. They are driving, fighting, and shooting. All modes are very well done, but the camera view in shooting mode can be annoyingly difficult to see the direction you want to sometimes. On the gamecube (which is my experience with this game), the controls can become confusing because there are just too many functions, especially because there are 3 modes. And by the way, you can switch the mode at will by pressing a button. The game area is absolutely HUGE; it takes a long time to drive across the city even in a fast car on the freeway. Yes, all the roads are real and they’re all named. And the name of the road you’re on is at the top of your screen, while the name of a cross street pops up as you’re about to cross it.Your character, Nick, says a bunch of great one-liners as he performs actions. The missions are more linear than GTA, but there are several alternate paths. And within a mission, when you’re on the streets (more than half of the missions), you can wander around for as long as you want and resolve street crimes, or even randomly search pedestrians and find illegal drugs or weapons. Doing these things changes your rating of Good Cop / Bad Cop (depending on how you do them), and gives you points which can be spent for upgrades. The upgrades come in 3 categories:1) Weapons: You can get more abilities with your guns and get bigger guns.2) Driving: You can earn more abilities of what you can do with a car, and sometimes you can do a race to earn yourself a new car (though you can drive any car when you want, but your cars are unique).3) Martial Arts: You can earn new moves to use in a fight, making your fighting much more effective. This game has a few minor annoyances (like the camera as described above), but overall it is very fun to play and I would recommend it.

True Crime: Streets of L.A. is off the wall. For me its a Gamecube Grand Theft Auto. If you dont have a X-box or Playstation 2 thie is the best GTA knock-off. The only place it may be lacking is the size of the town, with 240 miles of roads its pretty easy to get lost. As for story plot its pretty interesting. A real blue collar expierence.

You’re Nick Kang. Your father has been killed some years ago, but you don’t know why and by whom. Some say you’re a loose cannon, but you’re a really good cop. The E.O.D. – Elite Operations Division – hires you to solve some street crimes, but you never knew these crimes would get the answer to your father’s death…- Graphics: The graphics is this game are very enjoyable. The character’s faces are all different, and very detailed. The city of L.A. is huge in this game, really, they’ve done a great work about that. The camera is not a problem, since you control it with the C-Stick (like in Zelda: The Wind Waker and nearly every other 3D game in the GCN). The whole city is detailed too, no complains about the graphics.- Sound: This game’s soundtrack is just amazing, if you enjoy rap. Snoop Dogg is obviously the greatest rapper in the soundtrack. I really want to buy the soundtrack, that’s avaliable at Amazon in both Explicit and Clean versions, due to Snoop Dogg’s song “Dance Wit Me”, it’s fantastic. The whole soundtrack is good, it includes some other rock songs, but it’s mostly rap. The voice acting is great too, everyone works great doing the voice to the virtual characters, except for the famous actor Christopher Walken, his voice doesn’t sound that good in the videogame. Sound effects are awesome too.- Fun: The missions in this game are very different. Race, stealth, shoot, fight and so on, and this makes the game better, because you don’t get tired. The main character, Nick Kang, is great, so he’s another attractive to the game. True Crime: Streets Of L.A. is not a hard game, but it requires some practice in some missions. There are many endings in the game, it depends on how you’ve played in the whole games, if you were a bad cop or a good cop. In other words, the game is very fun and will entertain you for a while.- Educative: It’s a Mature game due to strong language, violence (well, nearly every game has violence), some sexual content and blood. It is a game, I believe, OK for 15 and up. It has all those f-words, b-words, s-words, it is violent, you use guns, you can kill people, do bad things, really. It has some sexual content too, not very explicit, but you can see that this is not a game for everyone.I haven’t played Grand Theft Auto, Max Payne or Dead To Rights, so this is like a new game to me, totally new, and highly enjoyable. This is as close we, GameCube owners, can get to Grand Theft Auto: Vice City. So it’s already worth your money.

I recently bought this game True Crimes streets of L.A . The game has every detail of the streets in it. The size of the map in the game is atleast 3 times bigger than vice city and twice as big as GTAIII. I am a fan of GTA games i would say this is like GTA 4 with bigger sizemap since its a real life map of L.A this is a unique game and another big step for realistic games. MISSIONS: As you may know already most of the games are made of levels that you must pass and some times you get frustrated that you give up.In True Crime streets of L.A you may skip the mission ones you have tried it but if you are that kind of person that must pass it you can.You can also forget the missions and go straight to the rampage that most teens(like me) love the games for WHILE your in the middle of missions. You can turn into a bad cop or be a good cop by arresting bank robbers, streets racers, you can stop riots, kidnappers, carjackers, arrest inmates that have escape, get in high speed chases, theres stand of,drug dealers, you can stop Illegal Chicken fights, well all that you can imagine in a city. WEAPONS:the weapons are great. There are cheap ones and great ones from beer bottles, knives, normal guns and then you can get shot guns, assault rifles , uzi , granade launghers and alot more. FIGHTING: the fightin is really awesome there is ,kick boxing, normal boxing, karate, and all those marcial arts stuff you can use. WEAPON AIM: this is the best aim ive seen in games. while you are drivin you can hold R1 and fire at enemy vehicles or criminals even just people you dont like in slow motion. its like the MATRIX when you shot in the car it slows down and so does when you are taking cover from enemies you dive and it goes in slow motion and shot at them. DRIVING: there is nothing to stop you going through the whole map of L.A as in GTA you must pass the missions to get through other places. Theres more active people you can ran over or shot than GTA3 and VC. You can drive easily the cars you get BMWs, Hummer lookin SUVS, lanberghinis ( the new ones not the old ones as in vice city) the actual LAPD lookin cop cars, your own undercover cop car, limos, ford crown victoria cars… mercedes bens, cadillac, and way much more you can imagine.. even those old volgswagen vans that the hipi people used in the 60’s. The game has alot of humor also… I dont see so many sexual content as in GTA where you could of take the hookers and do your business. i would recommended for YOU and people who love GTA games you must try this one!!

I have picked up this game thinking it would be pretty tight, as I am a fan of third person action adventure games. I have a few things to point out as words of warning.1) The game is good, but not the end all beat all. It’s got some entertaining parts I’ll admit, but it is not a free floating adventure game where you do what you want or handle adventures in the way you want. The story is linear, with few side-quests. The side tasks allow you to open up new skills and cars, but are not sub-plots all their own.2) Load Times. This game has an enormous amount of load times. I was almost tempted to get a book. It loads before each cut scene, AND after each cut scene. It loads each mission, and it saves and loads after each mission. Just a warning, you got a lot of waiting ahead of you. I would have given it a better review, but all that waiting is unnecessary. If it doesn’t bother you, good for you. But there are a ton of great games on the cube that don’t load like this.3) The graphics are good, but people and things tend to have little hit detection. It’s possible to run through cars or objects when some kind of action animation takes over, putting someone beyond your reach when you kick them. Also just a warning, because I was in a fight with some criminals who kept sliding through the wall. I would have to run away for them to come out and fight me. Has happened more than once.Anyway, it’s a pretty good game, but it’s not the end all beat all on the cube. If you have the extra money feel free to pick it up. If you only buy one game a month like me, you might want to pick up something else.
