    I am so excited!

True Crime is dubbed as being the next GTA III. That’s a pretty big bet, considering how good of a game and how sought after Grand Theft Auto III was a couple of years back. However, I believe that True Crime may be able to live up to what it says it can. First off, True Crime Streets of L.A. is being developed by Activision, a videogaming heavyweighr. Activision has the potential to make this game a hit. I just question how willing they are to make it good. So far, it looks to me like they are doing a fine job. At E3, the booth for True Crime was a hotspot for gamers, and the game was very impressive for all who saw it. The graphics were better than the GTA games, probably at least on par with the great graphics in The Getaway. True Crime featured 240 square miles of re-created L.A. territory, and the city looked great. The game just had the atmosphere of L.A. There was Beverly Hills, Hollywood, and even ghetto paradise within the game. There were hot rides in hot areas of the city, and old Buicks in the not-so-nice parts as well. (I prefer the ghetto life!) The people were good too. There were gangstas, ho’s, businessman, snobs, everything that you would actually see in real-life L.A. Landmarks were recognizable, from the skyscrapers to the Mann’s Chinese Theater. The sound was just flatout AWESOME as well. Cars were realistic, pedestrians chatted, music pumped in the background. And as a bonus, there will be over 50 beats from real life west coast rappers like Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre. I am psyched about that!! I am a huge rap fan! The sound to me seems just as good or possibly better than the awesome sound effects in GTA Vice City. You play as a cop, Nick Kang, who can either be good cop, or bad cop, whichever road you wish to put him on in the game. And the game will tilt that way too. Be a baddie, and you’ll be swarmed by vigilantes and even your fellow police. Be a good guy, and the game may be a little easier or a little harder, depending on your view. So far, True Crime looks awesome. It could give the GTA series a run for its money. Roll out the red carpet this fall. Here come True Crime Streets of L.A.!

Didn’t live up to the hype.

Yes, rent it first. If I could, I’d give it 2.5 stars because that is all this game is….flat average. It does have replay value, but there are many MANY flaws. First off, the hand-to-hand combat system is possibly the worst I’ve ever used, the overall control setup is extremely cumbersome, the diologue stinks, and the game is just too short. If one chooses to simply play through the story, the game could be over within two hours. This is really just a good rental. I actually played it for the whole time that I had the game, which makes it worth the $5.00 at the rental shop. The feature of solving random, optional street crimes also provides to the gameplay experience, but other games have pulled off the genre in a much better way. If you want excellent hand-to-hand combat and you have the original Max Payne for PC, there is a free Kung-Fu download which is extraordinary. If you don’t have the game, try out Dead to Rights. The shooting system and hand combat are much more fluid.Wait…..did i mention that the Bullet Time setup in True Crime is horrible? The free aiming system that was available in both Max Payne games isn’t there for Bullet Time in True Crime. Instead of simply slowing down for your dive and quickly rotating your aim, you must use the right analog stick to switch who you are aiming for. The right analog stick aim switch only works half the time by the way. It’s frustrating because you can freely spray your opponents with bullets like you can with other mostly run-and-gun shooters.Being able to update Nick Kang’s, the main character, equipment and fighting combos is a nice feature. It makes things just a tad bit more interesting. With an appropriate rating of Mature, there is tons of vulgarity in the diologue. The people on the street do carry on coversations and will respond in certain ways to Nick depending on his Good Cop/Bad Cop rating. If you run in to a few people with your car, be prepaired to be sworn at heavily. The S-Bomb is quite possibly the most used word in the whole game. So don’t play this game with the kiddies around.Driving is probably the most fun part about the game. The targeting system while driving actually works rather smoothly, especially for being the first game (I’m pretty sure) to feature a simultanious driving and shooting experience. Switching into the precision-aim option while driving slows things down and allows you to shoot specific areas of an assailant’s car, such as tires and gas tanks. Outside of precision aim, the one good thing about the targeting system in this game is the auto-lock on the car that contains the perpetrators which Nick is trying to catch. But be careful, people and other automobiles are infamous for diving into your bullet path and you will frequently kill pedestrians and blast the tires of innocent drivers. Heck, maybe even a gas tank here and there. One fact about this game that will probably raise mixed feelings is that this game is really never difficult or frustrating. The sneaking missions get extremely boring, but otherwise everything plays out in a simple manner. The advantage of the very short story mode is that it does keep the action from being repetative. About that story mode, there are 3 possible different endings…and all together, the game is still extremely short. After the games is finished, the nice things is that you can go back to anywhere in the game, weilding your new gear and sweeping criminals off of the street as mercilessly as you so please. The amount of hype that went into this game encouraged many to purchase the game, and this game certainly didn’t live up to it. When I rented the game, I had high expectations about the much acclaimed hip-hop game soundtrack. That had to be the worst hip-hop I have ever heard in my entire life. All the creators did is pick up the most vulgar hip-hop that they could find and put it in this game. The soundtrack is a deep insult to what hip-hop is supposed to be. True hip-hop fans will be disappointed, and people who already hate popular hip-hop will be adding a little extra morter in their Berlin Wall against the style of music. If you want a chaos-ridden driver-shooter, the GTA series is probably a better fix. But if you prefer to be the good guy that is causing absolute entropy, then try this game out. You will find replay value in it’s free-roaming style, but there are much better games out there that do a lot of things much better.

A Good Game That Is Unpolished And Frustrating

This game is something along the lines of Grand Theft Auto or Saints Row. You drive around the city, do side quests, and shoot or beat up people. The difference, this time you’re the good guy so your hands are tied. Some dumb pedestrian gets in your way, no running them down, you take a penalty. I’ve even seen them literally dive into the street from the sidewalk before. Hey though, you’re a cop so you’re taking care of the people. So how do they repay you? Well, a fair amount of the time you go into break up a fight, both people fighting will attack you. That’s probably realistic, so no big deal. However, the loving citizens also ignore your siren, routinely crash into your police car, and at one point after maybe a couple hours playing ran me and an AI controlled cop down in the middle of the street and kept going. Delightful. The music that plays is something that parents will want to be aware of. A delightful little tune My B—h A– N-ers is apparently the favorite tune of the main character. I’m not very PC, but that was off putting and the song itself was terrible. Seems like it’s just in there for “shock value”. There may be a way to change the radio station, but I haven’t found it yet. That’s a problem with the game, it doesn’t have what you’d consider a real “tutorial”. A lot of stuff you’ll only find if you read some guide or the hints on the load screen.Add to that a shooting mechanic which is utterly awful, and a system of getting upgrades that punishes you if you fail the tutorial for getting them by deducting a badge, and it’s like someone designed it to intentionally be frustrating. I mean, you look at it and it’s got the makings for a really good game, but by the middle of Act III, I was ready to just slaughtering every single citizen I could find for the shear joy of shutting them up. I also found myself hoping they suffered…The game may give you enjoyment depending on your tastes, and it’s the closest thing I’ve played to Saints Row 3 on the PS2, but I’m finding it far more work than it’s worth to be a “Good Cop” for the better ending. I’m probably going to go back to playing Gun.

    We Have to Wait

All of us can hear, feel and smell the Extraorinary hype surrounding the upcoming release of True Crime : Streets of L.A , many said that it will beat Vice City and sets a new rules for this genre of gaming , and after playing a Demowhich contains a three missions i can mention the Follwoing Uppers and Downers for this Game:UPPERS:1)Solid graphic and nice texturing which gives a very realistic feeling for the game .2)As many revierwrs and game analysts stated , the game recreated the whole city of L.A with Marvelous Details .3)Implementing the ability to do combos of fighting moves which gives a new tast for the fighting sections of the game .4)Improved AI which gives a more realistic touch to the game .Downers:1) The game takes many elements from Vice City , the mission which flickers on the screen , they haven’t even changed the position of the mission’s screen which is placed in the down left side of the screen , the same as Vice City .2)The HIP HOP soundtrack is not original at all , i think a musical score would have been better for the game , and would have added more depth for the game .3)The useage of the Bullet Time Technique which in my opinion has become OVERCONSUMED in the all the kinds of Entertainment ….from the Movies to even the Video Clips. This game actually is an enjoyable to play , but to judge on it more accurately we have to wait till we play the full game , and then we will see if it will take a place in the shortlist for the best games ever made or not .

I’ll tell it like it is. You decide if you’ll like the game

I bought this game because I wanted to play a GTA-type game with the streets of LA, which I am very familiar with (Grew up near Crenshaw and Pico.)I like the graphics. It’s well done. The city might not resemble LA all that much except for few well known landmarks (e.g. the Staple Center). I like that you can fight hand-to-hand even though you can pretty much beat anyone if you press the buttons fast enough. The driving engine is simple enought although at top speeds, it does get kind of tricky. The missions are way too easy (they call driving to a spot on a map a mission.)The controls and camera are what make this game from becoming real enjoyable. The controls aren’t just tight and responsive enough. Finally, the music. You are either going to like it or hate it. I like a little rap here and there but nothing but gansta rap with f-bombs littered all over the place. It gets REALLY annoying unless gansta rap happens to be your favorite genre. Activision needs to realize that someone like Nick Kang, the main character, might not even listen to rap. Again nothing wrong with rap, just a little variety would have been nice. Maybe even different styles of rap would have been nice. This one is a rental. You could probably finish it in a weekend.

    Not good doesn’t even work

First off I was waiting for this game very excited to play it again and as soon as I get it in the mail I put it in the PlayStation and notice these really big scratches on the disc and was hoping it would still work even though clearly it wasn’t going to. I was right the PlayStation couldn’t even read the disc I tried to clean the cd I tried to put it in many times and nothing, I am so disappointed. I only put 1 star because I had to but if it were up to me I would put no stars.

Not GTA, but it’s more than ok

This is definitely one solid title to get your hands on if you are looking for something a little different than GTA. This time, you’re the law and you’re doing your best to not break it. But, there are a lot of things that came from this game that GTA has included or other games from RockStar, including solving crimes to increase your stats, and interrogation. This is a must-have for your Open-world game collection.

It was like I bought the game from the store, no scratches or anything. Everything that you would find in it if you were at the store is what you’ll find there.
