Comes close to the old school beat em up games..but as the game goes on it gets tougher and tougher..to your discretion that can be a good or bad thing..it’s a fun game imo!

If you are a fighting game fan, this game has tons of fighting styles, lots of characters, and is really fun to play with up to 4 friends if you have a multi-tap. You can play custom offline matches as well with CPUs. It has a story mode full of easy to very challenging missions to test your skills. Best brawling game on the PS2 in my opinion.

…you might want to give Urban Reign a try. Because, that’s exactly what this is. A *FIGHTING GAME*. Many official reviews I’ve read online seem to be missing this crucial fact.Urban Reign was not meant to be about intricate plotlines like an RPG…or freely roaming cities like Grand Theft Auto…or crazy side-games…or transparent distractions. It’s emphasis is on the *FIGHTING*. And, there’s a lot of fighting to be had in Urban Reign…after all, this is a tribute to the old beat-em-up days of Final Fight and Streets of Rage. The best part is that you can get as involved as you want. You can button mash like a zombie if you wish, and I suppose that will get you a certain degree of success. However, if you are interested in going further, you will find a surprising depth typically lacking from the beat-em-up genre. There are special reversals, juggle combos, and (dare I say it?) STRATEGIES you must adopt to ensure victory. If anything, I believe the gameplay in Urban Reign takes this dormant genre in a promising new direction. The single player experience will keep you busy for a while; unlocking many of the goodies requires you to familiarize yourself with the story mode. A warning: check your ego at the door. Story mode will own you. Period. The 1-on-4 whoopings will be frustrating, so if you fear challenges, steer clear. However, the multiplayer experience is where the game shines. The action is fast paced and fairly intelligent…if you learn the nuances of.

I look at many reviews for this game and it is very mixed. One of the main problems most people have is the frustrating difficulty. And honestly, they have a point. Story mode is freaking brutal. If you’re trying to play Story Mode to unlock stuff, this is one of those controller throwing games. And it doesn’t help that you have to play through it to flesh out your multiplayer experience, which is the major thing, because THAT mode is what this game is all about.Yes, I said it. 60 characters, Power Stone meets Tekken meets Def Jam FFNY meets WWE No Mercy-style mayhem and carnage. But if you’re playing through Story Mode, you may do what a lot of reviewers did and completely short change the game, jaded by a game which even on Normal will put you in situations where you have to fight a gang of enemies that can do what you do and in some cases better. But a lot of these reviewers didn’t have what we have now. There are cheats to unlock everything you would unlock in Story Mode, and as someone who under normal circumstances would shun using a cheat code and grind through, those couple of cheats make this game TEN times better!!It’s not anything wack like more powerful strikes or one hit knockouts, no. It completely removes Story Mode as being necessary, which it shouldn’t have been in the first place. If Story Mode was the side attraction, this game would have done much better. As I play, I still did the Story Mode but I switched in between Story and Multiplayer. Wh.

I loved this game in high school, this game was so underrated. Any fighting game fan, or fan of beat em ups will enjoy this game!

Its a surprisingly good game, it drags on when you are playing the missions though. Thanks to the many unlockables and multiplayer it has great replay value.
