Virtua Quest
Virtua Quest, known in Japan as Virtua Fighter Cyber Generation: Ambition of the Judgement Six is a Virtua Fighter spin-off title co-developed by TOSE and Sega AM2. And published by Sega for the GameCube and PlayStation 2 video game consoles.
Description
Virtua Quest is a unique action role-playing game that brings back the classic Virtua Fighter characters in a most unexpected way. But in the future, there’s only one place left to find hidden treasure – online. Young Sei is an aspiring treasure hunter, looking for valuable data chips he can exchange for cash. But other treasure hunters are disappearing, and Sei starts looking into it. So to protect himself from the danger he finds, he’ll study the moves of legendary warriors from the past called the Virtua Fighters.
However, Game features traditional RPG elements including cinematic sequences, health points, and experience levels. But more than 45 special fighting moves acquired from Virtua Souls empower players with complex fighting moves. Also use Sei’s Wire to swing to new areas, capture enemies or chain together devastating combos. Collect data chips and then trade them in to power-up your character. Moreover, great cinema breaks will fill you in on the background of the story, while you train and improve.
Reviews
Virtua Quest received mixed reviews upon release. IGN said “The action is mediocre at best. And the platform elements feel sloppy and unrefined. But the graphics and sound are equally forgetful.” Play said it had “stiff controls, an antiquated camera with no look button”.
As GameSpot said “The action is plagued by loose controls and a bad camera, your scores of brain-dead opponents never put up enough of a fight to make things satisfying, and it’s all set in a blandly designed world.”
And 1Up said “The derivative nature of the plot goes hand-in-hand with the completely unimaginative gameplay. Nothing here is original.”
