I do not play this game but two of my children do and they love it so much – to the point where we bought two of them so they could play at the same time. There are many neat things they have done on this game. They have made their own music, record and alter sounds and make their own minigames. My son created a version of duck hunt after seeing it at his uncles house. It encourages creativity. It has kept my 8 and 5 year old (boy and a girl)busy creating and sharing with each other and us. It is actually one of the few games where I hear more giggles than arguing. One thing I have noticed is that it does take an awfully long time to create detailed images and the games in general for a relatively short game playing time. While my kids do have unnatural patience to do this, the “kid” side of them comes out once in a while and they get tired designing all day to play for a few minutes.

With so much to do, this game is a little overwhelming. Lots of fun for those who want to create their own games.

As a college student studying game development, DIY has some terminology and mechanics that match what I’m doing in my college classes. For that, it is a very accurate depiction of the video game development cycle.

The WarioWare series is well-known for its ways of showing off how the innovative concepts of Nintendo’s systems can be put to great use, and that’s shown through its bizarre minigames that last about 5 seconds. But believe it or not, it made the series a winner, as it continued within new installments. But WarioWare DIY is a first; it lets you make your OWN MINIGAMES.Now, let’s be honest here. This isn’t necessarily something little kids would enjoy. They’d probably find the game making system very tedious. But it’s very simple to use for experienced guys like me, and the results are always worth it! It was awesome being able to make a game about Happy Gilmore (Funny Golf movie. You should watch it), Sonic, and….Heck, you could just come up with any concept imaginable and try making it as a minigame! That’s the fun of making your own minigames. Not only is a game creator present, but you could also compose your own music! This is obviously much easier to use than the game creator, since you can just place notes and instruments, but you’re not making your songs a mere 5 seconds. Instead, you could make the song as long as a few minutes. And here’s another interesting thing to do: Comics! You can make your own 4-panel comics! Fun for making up your own stories, splitting them up into several different comics, or perhaps you can just draw/write up simple jokes. This is also a great feature.Lastly, let’s not forget the pre-made minigames that usually make up all of the WarioWare.

.It’s obvious by now that the WarioWare series is Nintendo’s license to let its game designers run wild with a very loose leash. I mean, come on, games where you poke someone’s eyes out, or pluck boogers out of a nose? Awsomely grose! The untethered creativity has been something the WarioWare franchise has always embraced, from the GBA original to the DS and Wii follow-ups, and WarioWare D.I.Y. is pretty much the company handing over that creative license to the gamer. This is an incredibly experience that puts huge emphasis on user-made content: you have access to a rich set of tools to create microgames on the same level as you’ve seen in previous WarioWare games. There’s a little bit of everything in D.I.Y.: programming, drawing, and music composing, all done in a way that’s amazingly accessible to anyone’s skill levels.WarioWare D.I.Y. is essentially this generation’s version of Mario Paint. Many Nintendo fans hold the Super NES title in such high regard, so it’s baffling Nintendo’s gone so long without reviving that mouse-driven art title on the mouse friendly Nintendo DS or Wii. WarioWare D.I.Y. encapsulates all the creative tools of Mario Paint and reproduces them in a versatile game creator. You can animate game sprites and paint full backgrounds as well as create a short musical tune or stitch together a longer song. But most importantly, you’re using those assets in game creation: you’re building the same style of challenges that have been seen in previous WarioWar.
