X-men Legends
X-Men Legends is a real-time role-playing game where players put together their own team of X-Men heroes to combat such legendary foes as the Morlocks. Brotherhood of Mutants. And Sentinels. Moreover, in true role-playing game fashion. But players control their group of X-Men characters to take benefit of each individual’s special powers. And abilities while in combat. However, each character becomes more experienced in battle. Also his or her powers will grow over time. And new fighting moves become available to help the character develop into a more formidable opponent.
However, players will assemble their party from a lineup of more than 15 characters. Including popular favorites Wolverine, Cyclops, Storm, Nightcrawler, Colossus, Gambit, and Beast. And certain locales may require stealth to avoid alarm systems or traps. Making Wolverine or Nightcrawler more valuable team members. While multiple enemies may be more quickly dealt with using the crushing power of Colossus or the Beast. But players will have to carefully weigh the pros and cons of each superhero before forming the party and beginning a mission.
But once a mission begins, players can switch control between the mutants at any time. And can even implement combo moves between specific characters such as Wolverine’s and Colossus’ “fastball special” maneuver. Which has Colossus picking up Wolverine and tossing him at a foe to dole out heavy damage. Also up to four players can join in the adventuring together. And working as a team or honing their superhero skills from within the Danger Room training ground. Man of Action, a four-man production company of veteran comic book authors, wrote the game’s storyline.

Overview (Playstation2 version):Welcome to the world of X-Men. In this action RPG, you create and take control of a team of our favorite mutant superheroes to save humans from the evil Brotherhood. There are 15 playable characters in the story mode of the game. Wolverine, Cyclops, Storm, Jean Grey, Rogue, Nightcrawler, Gambit, Iceman, Jubilee, Magma (Alison), Colossus, Psylocke, Beast, Emma Frost, and Professor X are all at your disposal (though certain missions/flashbacks require a certain team). Each character has special abilities that can be combined with others to create devastating results that will make Sentinels shake in their metal boots. It’s up to you to pick the right team for the 20+ hours needed to finish the game.Gameplay (4 out of 5):Similar to Baldur’s Gate you gain experience by defeating enemies and accomplishing tasks. As you level up, you gain ability points that you can apply to different character attributes and powers. You choose how to upgrade your team. Give them enhanced mutant abilities, stronger attacks, better defenses, faster regeneration, etc. The game starts off with you in control of just Wolverine, but as you progress throughout the game, more and more X-Men become available. At the start of a mission, you choose your team of 1-4 characters and apply armor, utility belts, and accessories to aid in your mission. Missions range in time from 10 minutes to a couple of hours. There are however strategically placed X-traction Points where you can.

This game, as a whole, is definitely the best X-Men experience to date. I would actually score it above X-Men Legends 2, if only for story and overall feel of the game.As you play through the game, you unlock more mutants to have at your disposal. Each one, as would be obvious, focuses more on different aspects. You automatically expect Wolverine to be a scrapper and for Cyclops to be more range oriented in the fighting realm–all of that holds true. Each character is represented well with their powers (although I would have liked a bit more diversity in regards to those powers). The voice actors also seem to fit their characters really well. The obvious star is Patrick Stewart portraying Professor X though. In a game play nutshell, everyone has 2 basic special attacks (they can be either physical or projectile based), a defensive move of some sorts, and an “Xtreme” attack. They also have different passive abilities (such as Wolverine’s healing factor) that you can also invest in to increase their worth. As you level up, you get points to invest in these types of attributes. They range from the basic things for everyone (like health, defense, etc) to specific mutant perks like Nightcrawler’s acrobatic skills and Storm’s potency with weather attacks. As you progress, you’re also able to unlock different outfits for the characters. Most characters have at least 2 outfits to choose from. As can be expected, there are quite a few items in the game–some specific to certa.

Review Lover –
‘X-Men Legends’ is the first truly good X-Adventure game to be released anywhere – bar, of course, the original X-Men arcade cabinet from the eighties. For too long have we suffered the mediocre (X-Men: Mutant Apocalypse on the SNES, X2 – Wolverine’s Revenge on PS 2) and the downright ugly (Spider-Man & X-Men on Genesis, X-Men: Mojo World on Game Gear) excesses of cheap-games-produced-by-license, promising all manner of X-Goodness and then failing utterly to live up to the coolness and depth of storyline that have made the comic books such a strong feature of popular culture for the past half-a-century.There have been some great beat-’em-ups, sure, but adventuring is what the X-Men are all about, and happily, ‘XML’ turns the tables and delivers adventure action in spades, with a hefty dose of characterisation and one of the best storylines ever.GRAPHICS: 3Decent enough, the cel-shaded look is nice and colorful, but the camera angles mean that you never see much detail. Backdrops are big and nicely detailed (the NYC and Astral Plane levels are particularly cool) and presentation is excellent (loading screens are beautiful to look at, menus are nice and responsive) but one can’t help feeling that the PS 2 is capable of far more.SOUND: 4Excellent voice acting adds to a wonderful atmosphere that is hampered only by repetitive in-game battle music. Excellent sound effects and the option to skip over the longer monologues is a nice touch.PLAYABILITY: 4The controls are very responsiv.

The game worked great and I experienced only one glitch. It was somewhat repetitive, but still enjoyable. I only played it through once and will probably never play it again as it does not seem to have much replay value. Still a decent game.
