I’m giving this game 4 stars because I believe it is superior to other baserball games available, but…..I purchased this game without doing my homework or renting it, on the strength of 2002 and 2003. I was somewhat disappointed with the product I received. The most disappointing aspect in my view is the regression in graphics, allthough it seems to be a trend. If you compare 2002 to 2003 you’ll find that while 03 has superior gameplay, for some strange reason 02 looks alot cleaner. And it’s downright baffling when it comes to the glaring difference in graphic quality of 04 compared to 03. That’s not to say it’s complete garbage. But disappointing none the less.As far as the menu’s and roster control, it’s a bit clumsy as well as time consuming to get through. It is not for those of you that want a superstar team through trades. Unless you control all the teams (in franchise/expansion), it’s likely you’ll not get all the players you like. And if you do decide to control all the teams to get the players you like, good luck in adjusting the rosters of 32 MLB teams with a slow menu screen. I quit after the an hour and the third team. That being said, at the moment I’m still faithfully playing to try to get myself used to it before I decide to take it back or not. As far as the pitching and hitting aspect, it is the most relistic game I’ve ever played. The main problem I have with the game play is the extremely spacious outfield that turns seemingly lofty fly balls into doubles.

The all star seiries is one of the more enjoyable I have played, the expansion/franchise mode is exceptionally enjoyable. However it does have its flaws. While the pitching is better than most games the hitting is worse, it seems the balls take paths and always end up in the same places, 90% of the time in a feilders glove, hitting homers is fun and easy in this game as well.Overall a good game but the gameplay could have been improved.

I just bought this game today and it is the best of it’s kind in my opinion. It tops High Heat Baseball by a large margin. For one, Acclaim’s new game has loads of new features and also many more game modes. One such mode is scenario mode which is where you change the outcomes of some of the tense 2002 games. For true baseball fans and not those looking for a game to entertain such as mlb slugfest,I would have to rate gameplay a 10 out of 10.Unlike what other reviews have stated,I believe every baseball game or of sort should have some challenge to it. If that challenge means striking out ten times and having to hit and run in order to win a game than thats it.I’ve played MLB Slugfest and in that you can hit homeruns left in right. It’s way too easy and not real! You’ll learn from your mistakes in ASB and might want to get on the field a few hours early for batting practice sometimes during the season. On the other hand, the graphics in ASB are also very realistic. I was shocked to find the stadiums in so much detail. Take a tour of the fields to get an idea of where you might want to sit on your next trip to Yankee Stadium. What i am saying is Acclaim seemed to have put a lot of effort into the making of this game. It’s into depth franchise mode goes there and beyond. (30 seasons!) Not to mention all of the managerial moves you can make. During the offseason you may watch some of your players hang up their hats while others receive a ballet for Cooperstown.I would highly recomm.

I had given up on trying to find a decent baseball game. Since 1993 or so, I would get my hopes up for a new baseball game, only to be disappointed by a lack of realism. That’s where ASB 2004 excels. Most baseball games reward free-swinging as it’s routinely easy to end up with 23 hits and 14 runs. ASB 2004 focuses on patience and baseball management skills. For example, depending on the count, you’ll be thrown different types of pitches. Look for a 95mph fastball, a splitter or a nasty curve if you’re behind 1-2. On the other end, if you’re sitting at 2-0, look for a good pitch you can hit. Location of the pitch also affects how you hit it. If you connect on a high pitch, in on your hands, you’ll pop it up. As a pitcher, you have to vary your pitches and location to get a strike out. Both pitchers and hitters go through slumps. You can have a stretch where your leadoff man is in a 3 for 36 funk, or have a reliever who can’t get anybody out. Your starting picther may stink so bad, that you’ll have to send him to the bullpen and replace his spot in the rotation. Lots of other small effects: bunting (the red, white, blue banners) is seen on the stadiums for Opening Day and the Playoffs. After a Fourth of July game, fireworks could be seen behind the scoreboard. Even the outfield ads of each stadium are preserved (while the shapes and colors are there, the sponsors have been modified for legal reasons). During interleague play, your team may appear in their throwback uniforms. Yo.

One of the best baseball games of all time!

First i am going to start off by saying that ASB 2004 is the best game ever. Like that other guy said you can take a tour on [url]. The tour is reall easy to use and it is like you are acullay playing the game. Now for the game itself. In ASB 2003 the graphics are good but in the 2004 editon it looks like you are standing toe to toe with the person. The game modes are incredible. They have the new stadium tour witch has Derek Jeter himself tells you about each stadium in the MLB. Next is the Expansion mode, in this edion unlike in 2003 you can choose your teams name by choosing one of the maskotts. What i mean is is that they show you the masksott itself. The franchise mode lets you choose any team and take them up to i think 20 seasons with retired players and free agents. There are so many other features that i can’t tell you because there is so many of them but one feature has improved and thats the creat-a-player mode. I hope you have this review helpful and you should bye this game when it comes out or preorder it like i did.

This is my favorite baseball game, so I might be a bit biased. But the game works great and really felt like a new disc. Came with pamphlet and in great shape.

  8. Hardball Fan

I can’t say enough about this game. I was a little skeptical when the new baseball games came out because the 2002-03 lot left me disappointed. But this game has risen to the occasion. The graphics are very good and the gameplay is simply outstanding. If you want a baseball simulation that plays extremely close to the real thing, this is it. I love all the special features, and I probably haven’t even seen all of them yet. The old stadiums (like Polo Grounds, Crosley, Shibe, etc) are very cool. The franchise mode is unbelievably in-depth. Minor leaguers with options, Rule 5 Drafts, June Amateur Draft, etc, etc. Looking forward to using the network adapter to get roster updates. I think this is the king of baseball titles this year. Money well spent.

I’ve been looking for a readily playable baseball disk to just pop in the player and run with. This game allows you to do that. You have to time your hits to get the best results, and the pitcher’s control becomes harder the more tired he gets. Simply incredible. The rosters are fairly up to date (thru January of this year), and trading & creating players can become a bit tricky. Neither does it feature online gameplay (not a problem for me). So I can’t give it five stars, but it’s a strong four. I really, really, really suggest getting this game.

All-Star baseball 2004 is a great game. It has wonderful graphics. It has many extra choices that you can choose to do. There is a great franchise mode. You can play at all the classic fields. You can play at the field of dreams. you can use baseball legends. Lue Gherig babe Ruth Ty cobbs ted williams and many many more. i suggest you but this game. It is defenitly worth the price. If you want an easy baseball game do not get this game.this game can be a little challenging. It isn’t impossible too hit a homerun but it is not easy like slugfest and other baseball games. This is a great game <<<<<GET THIS GAME>>>>>
