To be fair, this game has flaws, lots of them. The combat is bad, especially at first when you dont have enough XP to level up your gun accuracy. The graphics are strange, being really high resolution, yet primitive at the same time. Many cant overlook these problems… but here’s the kickerThis game is amazing. The story starts off interestingly enough, but it keeps getting better and better. Your main character is a spy, never before has your dialogue choices felt soooo meaningful. This game puts Bioware games to shame in regards to dialogue and there consequences of your actions. Friends can become enemies, enemies friends! You can talk people into betraying the main bad guy, you can JOIN the main bad guy. Making someone like you, is NOT always the best option, sometimes you might want someone to hate you, to have a personal vendetta against you so he fights you to his last, allowing you to kill him, otherwise he’ll run away. The RPG aspect is also very cool, leveling up hand to hand, stealth, guns, gadgets and technical skills, mechanical skills, and 3 different types of armor you can buy and upgrade giving you 3 unique play style options. You can make your guy super sneaky, give him the top tier sneak armor and level up hand to hand and make him play like… Bat Man, punching and choking people out. OR say eff it, and grab heavy armor, going in loud and proud, only changing your assault strategy to beating them senseless when you want to avoid casualties (my favorite way.

Alpha Protocol was defintely under-rated by the big “Video Game Review” companies.I found this game more than just fun, it was exciting, intense, and found myself wanting to rush home so I could play it. Story and game play wise there is not much I have to complain about, all the controls work properly, the aiming system is a bit different at first, but you quickly adjust to it. The story is amazing, while there are one or two cheesy spy lines and dailogue most of the story is intense and what I really like that the developers did with the dialogue is that it is not stopped like Mass Effect or Dragon Age when you want to think about what you want to say. Alpha Protocol gives you a timer and you have to choose quickly what you want to say in the situation, which makes the game much more intense and makes you think on your feet, unlike having 2 or 3 minutes to anaylize what you are going to do in some games. The perks in the game are also unique in that you do not get to choose most of them, they are given to you by how you play and what you decide to do. I thought this was a great idea as it leveled up what I wanted my character to be and kept the game moving instead of me agnozing for 10 minutes about what perk I wanted. The story begins in a pretty normal spy setting and you start your training in 3 departments espionage, firearms, and gadgets. In each department you meet characters that will play later in the story Mina, Alan Parker, and Darcy. Some of them will be your handle.

I followed Alpha Protocol through its development cycle with some interest, but when the brutal 50% and 60% professional reviews came in, I stayed away. Turns out I had been doing this wonderful game a disservice. I found the controls and mechanics to be tight, noticed few bugs, and can’t fault either the combat, stealth, or cover mechanics as many have. It may suffer a bit in comparison to third-person shooters like Gears, but that’s not really a fair comparison to make. I’m not sure what led everyone to be so hostile, but it was truly undeserved. If Alpha Protocol has a weakness, it’s the dev team’s almost slavish adherence to the Mass Effect formula. They clearly used that successful BioWare series as a template, even anticipating some changes that would be introduced in its sequel. But I found the experience distinctive enough to be enjoyable on its own terms, even if its overall storyline isn’t as noteworthy. The character interaction in particular is well-handled, with lots of weighty choices made with memorable and interesting faces, even if they’re in service of an old hat Halliburton-is-evil plot. The bottom line? Pick up a copy if you enjoy sophisticated western-style RPG’s, and you won’t be disappointed.

Always loved this game worth getting only downside is it should at least have an in game plus mode cause it’s one of those games that once you reach the end then that’s it no more :(
