Overall the game is better than I expected. I did like Lament much more because it really had the Castlevania feel we have come to expect. I was fearful this would be another Devil May Cry game but it is different enough to keep me interested. The Innocent Devil concept is a nice try but not really what I want from this type of game. I want an action game and not an RPG and this game has too many RPG elements for my liking. I want to play the game instead of powering up Innocent Devils and creating new ones and getting them up to speed. Combining things to make new weapons confused the heck out of me at first. Again, I want an action game not a RPG. Stealing stuff from your enemies is fun. The need to sit in every chair to complete the game at 100% is moronic.Gameplay goes ok but the Innocent Devils can be more of a hinderance sometimes than a help. Fighting certain bosses can be a pain with them as well. Having to guess what you are hacking at because the boss becomes transparent so you can still see you character is a pain. The camera angles are not always stellar either.Still…it is more fun to play than I was expecting and stealing from your enemies can be fun. It still has the overall Castlevania feel but Castlevania without the whip just isn’t right. I suggest renting it first or buying it used. I don’t think it is worth a $40-$50 pricetag. $20 yes but not much more than that.

Condition of the game was very good. Game packaging was all original with little signs of wear. Disc loaded and operated as intended. Very pleased to revisit the nostalgia of this game. My thanks to the shop!

I played Castlevania about 6 yrs ago and loved it. This is just as much fun. I have been glued to it. I will eventually get the next one.

You know how sometimes you’ll pick up a cheaper game (usually a bargain bin title) you never heard of so you have no expectations? You take it home, pop it in, and even though it’s got some problems you end up absolutely loving it? Finding the positives eclipse the negatives enough to where they really don’t even bug you? That’s this for me.This feels a bit like the poor man’s Devil May Cry, which is ironic since this is generally harder to get now. I find the combat to be addictive (if a bit repetitive), and the gimmicks like Innocent Devils (basically Pokemon) and weapon crafting give it a ton of replay value. But the level design is very much "corridor, big room, corridor, big room, slightly recolored corridor, slightly recolored big room, etc" so don’t expect much in the way of visual diversity. The bosses are really cool, there’s a good variety of enemies, and the previously mentioned weapon crafting system has a LOT of weapons you can make so you’ll be at it a while. This isn’t for everyone. If you find the game fun after you’ve evolved a couple Innocent Devils and crafted a few weapons, you’ll have a blast for a WHILE. If you get that far and just aren’t that into it, though? I don’t think further in will win you over. And story has never really been the reason to play Castlevania games, this being no exception. But for those who are newer to the series… it’s the gameplay you want.
