This game is lovely, and I enjoyed it through and through even though I had a major plot point spoiled for me.The story is great, the characters are great, and as a irrelevant sidenote everybody seems to make that one specific character a white mage.Even though some aspects of the game get repetitive, I got my moneys worth by playing hours and hours and hours. This is a game that is like typical turn-based Final Fantasy games in terms of combat. The amount of character customization is intense and rebuilding a village to get more gear is a nice sidequestish sort of thing.I do have to say that power progression is a bit weird at times, but at one point I thought I was nearing the end of the game (I wasn’t) and I leveled up to the max level after grinding for a while.I can’t say too much about this game without spoiling things so here’s what you need to know:- Plot is great- Final Fantasy sequel- Final Fantasy combat- Good graphics (if you care about that)- This is my second most played 3DS game behind Pokemon Y (Which I put over 1000 hours into)- Lengthy plot if you take all the optional quests (which you should)- Great deal of character customization

Very pleased with the game. The characters are great and the dialogue and interaction between them were very well done. This is even extended to the side characters not just the 4 heroes of light. The battle system is really good and the ability to mix and match job abilities is great. It allows for some creative mixes. The presentation is also very done, the music, graphics and art were all to my liking. The 3D is also well integrated and extends beyond the typical 3d dialogue boxes from a lot of 3DS games. The ending does get repetitive which is why I removed one star. On the bright side with each new cycle come’s new dialogue for the existing characters in the world. This enables you to learn more about the story, characters and the world you are in. It also enables you to fight harder bosses and combination of bosses. The final repetitive cycle has a boss rush mode which is a great challenge for any of those up to it. The optional bosses in the Norende side game are also very challenging, I would say the most difficult by far. However one is just overly cheesy and I didn’t like that. If I were to sum this game up in one line is that it’s really a back to basics Final Fantasy, except its called Bravely Default.

Bravely Default is more than what I hoped it would be. The battle system is turn-based, but the Brave system makes it much more dynamic. Basically, you have the ability to expend further turns’ energy in order to make multiple moves in one turn. This plays a strong role in the strategic aspects of the game, and becomes more handy in Hard mode and against Street Pass nemeses. Additionally, the Street Pass features make complete sense for the plot line of the game and make playing motivating and interactive.I have described this game to friends as a mash-up of Final Fantasy V and Chrono Cross, and I stand by that. If you’re a fan of easy to master job systems and over 100 hours of compelling game play, your choice is already made. Start braving.

While it’s called "Bravely Default" it’s really a Final Fantasy game. The overall gameplay and battle system is one of the best that you can get on all systems. The hand-drawn backgrounds are gorgeous, especially when you stop and let the background pan out you can really see just how good looking the backgrounds are.I cannot emphasize enough just how good the battle system is. The ability to mix and match the support abilities while having job commands from two jobs at once really makes the game play flexible and to be able to create some of the deadliest battle combos in the game. For example the pirate class has the highest strength in the game, but one of the lowest accuracies. You can work around this by getting the hawkeye skill from the ranger class to increase accuracy, and also getting the dual wield skill from ninja to be able to dual wield axes with no penalty for dual wielding. This will enable you to do extremely high amounts of damage, but this being one of the only few examples of the flexibility of the job system. Some of the bad parts of the game are just how corny the dialogue can get, but Ringabel and Edea are by far the most interesting and fun characters in the game. Some parts of the game do indeed have some difficulty spikes and chapter 5+ does tend to get a bit of a drag. With that said, I found the difficulty spikes to not be that hard to deal with, but more to be about how to prepare for each dungeon/boss, as certain team make ups are good for.

This game is visually beautiful, storywise is pretty good, and the gameplay is splendid. When I got into the first city, I was blown away by the artwork and how the visuals were displayed. Each city is stunning and whimsical and I can’t help but sit in each place and just stare at it.The story gets a bit repetitive after the first half, but then you understand why. There’s a part of the story where I was completely thinking, "what in the world?! I NEED TO PLAY THE NEXT GAME NOW!" And now I’m stuck waiting and all I want to do is know more. The gameplay is like a Final Fantasy game with the turn based and it’s interesting when they bring the "Brave" part of the system into play. It can either make the game easier, or have you thinking strategically.Overall, I enjoyed the game and I cannot wait for the next game.

Gameplay is like most Final Fantasy games. There are plenty of jobs to master and use, a character can have actions selected from a secondary job in addition to the current, and any mix of passive abilities can be used between all jobs (limited by how far into the story you are). There are two basic functions of combat: Brave and Default (obviously). Brave is basically using an action point, called a Brave Point, and Default is a defensive option that allows you to build up Brave Points. Up to 4 actions can be used at any given turn, but if the turn ends with the character in negative BPs, that character must wait until BPs come up to zero again. Any given character or enemie gains 1 BP per turn. The story is a big plot twist, but as far as completing the game goes, it gets very repetitive, which is why I’m giving it a 4/5 instead of 5/5. Definitely a fun game to get into, so I still recommend it.

I am thirty-three years old. I’ve been playing video games since I was five. I’ve tried almost every Final Fantasy game and abandoned all of them after a few days. However, Bravely Default is quickly becoming one of my favorite games.I’ve never been able to get into Japanese RPGs. I love D&D and Pathfinder, but Final Fantasy – possibly the quintessential JRPG – always bored me. I got sick of random encounters, some of the dialogue scenes were too long for my tastes, battles got repetitive after a while.Bravely Default (an awkward name if you ask me… I blame it on a loss of translation) by Square Enix is similar to Final Fantasy in mechanics and art style, but there are differences that transcend plot alone. The new battle system which this title is named after allows you to get past frustrating enemies that heal themselves frequently. If you use the "default" move, you can defend yourself and collect "brave points" which you can spend to unleash a few moves in one turn. If you have a group of four and most of them have initiative (D&D term… sorry) higher than the enemy, they’ll pummel the enemy and hopefully knock its HP down way faster than it can heal. That’s just one way the new system is helpful. The things that make this game better for me than Final Fantasy (FOR ME… that’s an opinion) is the option to adjust the frequency and difficulty of encounters in-game, and the ability to change characters’ job/profession/class whenever you want without suffer.

After owning the game for about six months, I finally got around to beating the game today. Despite some flaws, this is one of the better RPGs I have played in a long while.PROS:+ Great battle system. Choosing when to Brave or Default during battle is key to winning the harder fights.+ Long playtime. I just finished at 55 hours.+ Job System. It makes for interesting party combinations.+ Battle rate. The ability to double encounter rate or completely remove random encounters really helps when grinding.+ A good challenge. There is a nice difficulty curve on normal. Some bosses will be a walk in the park while some will have you managing your BP levels every turn.CONS:- Story. It suffers greatly from pacing issues in the later chapters and it’s for this reason alone that I can’t give the game a higher rating.- There are some overpowering class combinations. There were other classes that I wanted to use but there was just no incentive to do so because I was already hitting the 9999 damage cap with some certain job/move combinations and didn’t really need any support abilities.Overall, I like this game. I don’t think I like it as much as I thought I would or that it lived up to the hype it was getting. But I do think it is worth buying at $30 or used. It’s nice to see SquareEnix on the right track with traditional RPGs again and hopefully they’ll be able to make improvements for its sequel, Bravely Second. ( 3.8 / 5.0 stars )

The game itself is amazing and worth 5 stars BUT although the copy I ordered was new and sealed it was the Canadian version which has a French logo on the box art. It’s not a huge deal but when you are already paying a premium for a new physical copy that is out of print it does irk me a little. The game defaulted to English when I inserted the game for the first time so if it wasn’t for the box art you would never know it was multi language. The cartridge as well has the US sticker on it.Now that I am back in the Nintendo gaming realm again I will just have to buy a physical copy on release day :)

It’s a fun one and done game. There is no replay value except for self imposed challenges. This game has a new game + (plus) . If you like the handheld final fantasy games, you’ll like Bravely Default. The maximum character level is 99 and the maximum job level is 14. There are 24 jobs to be unlocked and you can change jobs on the fly. Sometimes you’ll need to change character’s jobs (ninja derp) to beat certain bosses. The battle system lets you take turns in advance (up to 3. Four with a certain Templar ability). When you default (defend), you can store those unused turns (up to 3. Four with a certain Templar ability). This game has two different endings that can be obtained within the same playthrough. After chapter 5, this game becomes a bit repetitive due to re-fighting the same bosses for the next few chapters but with more HP each time, but the enemy script changes each time as well.
