After getting his wings clipped in Castlevania and Simon’s Quest, the death defying Count has risen again. Desiring revenge even more than blood, he’ll descend upon your Game Boy, with fangs glistening by the light of the slivery full moon. To survive his maze of torture chambers and vampire crypts, you must unlock the castle’s secrets by locating hearts, crystals and crosses. You must also possess the strength to master the Mystic Whip, which wards off unearthly evils like the She Worm. So risk your neck and accept Drac’s challenge. Because if you fail to destroy him now, he will rule the night forever.

This game is a good addition to my Game Boy library. The graphics are pretty good for the system, and the music is (for the most part) what I expect from a Castlevania game.Be warned though that this game has its fair share of flaws. For one, Christopher Belmont holds the record for the slowest Belmont in the series. Boy, does he move slow. The controls are pretty stiff too. I feel like I have to put all my focus into the most minute movements. A lot of the platforms seem to require you to be on the absolute edge to make it to the next one, which becomes a real pain when half of them fall the second you step on them. And by fall, I mean drop so fast that they may as well instantly disappear. Another issue, combined with your slow movement, is how fast the enemies move. Half the time, you are going to get hit no matter how hard you try not to, and don’t get me started on those bats. The bosses besides Dracula are pretty generic too (really, a bunch of moles as a boss?). The levels are also really long, and when you have to use your continue, you lost essentially one fourth of the games length. Yeah, only 4 levels. I know it is a Game Boy game, so I wasn’t expecting too many levels, but only 4?And that is really the biggest problem. The game is really short, but the difficulty is so high (even for a Castlevania game) that those 4 levels will take quite a while to complete. And my other big issue along with that is the lack of a password system. I know there’s only 4 stages, but.
