I was never a fan of this series. I had played it before, but not long enough to hate or love it. Then a review by the Angry Video Game Nerd was released a week or two ago about the series and I decided to give it a try. At first I was frustrated, the game is very challenging. Not in a fair way though. Every time you get hit you jump backwards and if you’re on a platform you fall to your death. That was a major flaw in this title. Still I found myself continuing to play it day after day. I still stink at it but it is rather addicting. The graphics are good for the NES with a large array of enemies. The music is also amazing for 8 bit and never seems to get old. It is now a gem in my collection.Presentation- This game has some of the best music in videogame history. The graphics look great and the overall feel of this game is spooky and horrifying. 5/5Graphics- This game looks awesome for the beginning of the 8 bit era. There is a nice palette that keeps the creepy feel without getting too dark. There are also a lot of different enemies to fight. The game looks great for its age. 5/5Story- Well you fight through castles and kill anyone in your path to get to Dracula. He is the main villain of the game and the rest of the series. Not a bad story for as old as the game is. Some text would have been nice to add to the depth of the story though. 4.5/5Game play- This game has some great side scrolling action. There are many powerups and weapons to get along with an array of enemies.

Castlevania made my armpits sweat and the pigmy monkeys were as annoying as shots

The original Castlevania game is one of Konami’s cult classics. Only good Ol’ Simon Belmont, the original Vampire Slayer can kick so much monster butt with his trusty whip. Its also considered Konami’s horror answer to The Legend of Zelda, but only on a linear platform. The immpecable gameplay, superior graphics, fluent controls, and kick-butt Konami soundtrack makes me wonder why I did’nt first play this game when I was younger (oh yeah, because the local Video Store never had it and we could’nt afford to buy every NES title back in the late 80s). After so many recommendations, I had to get it for myself, but my brother bought it for me before I had the chance to order it. For those that never played this horror adventure game, let me warn you that its hard. I never even made it up to Dracula myself (close, but no cigar), but thats why we have unlimited continues. You really have to strategize and maintain alot of patience as you progress and that strongly applies near the end of the fifth level and all of the sixth level (before you face Dracula). When you’re playing this game, you gotta practice and practice. I do have 3 main complaints about this game. I hate it when you get knocked back dramatically each time you get hit, resulting in alot of cheap deaths (this will be a common problem in the future games as well). Being defenseless on the stairs really sucks too (you can’t use your whip while walking up and down). Those relentless Medusa heads near the end o.

This game is a true classic. It can be challenging, but it is definetly worth playing. If you don’t have it, I recommend buying it.

This game impacted the gaming world in a way you’d never know. This video game started it all! This is the first of the series where you are Simon Belmont, and you are on your journey to slay Dracula. This game is creepy, this game, or should I say the whole Castlevania series has some of the best music ever compiled for a video game in history! That is saying alot seeing how games like Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy and D-Force all had great music. This game has average graphics(what can you say for a NES game?). The gameplay is great, you will be having fun for a long time, and get the rest of the series as well, it’s worth it guaranteed…
