I prefer 3rd person shooters and I loved playing this game. Good story, ok graphics, alot of fun. Playing with Shadow and keeping cover was a little frustrating a times but I got through it. I give this hidden gem 4 1/2 stars.
Not a very long game but i enjoyed it and have replayed it once payed 13 bucks well worth it
I figured that the Dead to Rights franchise was DOA. The last console game was released back in 2005, which is a lifetime in the video game world. When this new installment was announced it went straight on my wishlist. While it’s a great game, it’s a shame it seems to have been overlooked.As before you play the role of hardcore cop Jack Slate, investigating the death of his dad (hang on, isn’t that the plot of the first game?) along with faithful dog Shadow (a nice little reference to
Dead to Rights 2 is immediately fun to play and one of the few 3rd person shooters I’ve found that also works well as a beat ’em up. Plus you get to play levels as the dog, Shadow.+ As Jack, the action in Dead to Rights 2 is fast-paced and conducive to an aggressive, up close and personal, playing style. If you’re the kind of player who likes to be methodical, stealthy and careful you’re going to get frustrated fast. If you try to stay put too long or play too carefully, the AI closes in and kills you.As Shadow, the opposite is true. You’ve got to be super stealthy and clear out an environment by picking off guys one by one. If you try rushing guys with guns as Shadow, you’ll die fast. The result is that the diverse mechanics keep the experience diverse.+/- That being said, the levels go on longer than you might have come to expect in a shooter. When playing as Jack (most of the game), there are checkpoints, so you don’t get punished too badly for dying. However as the game goes on and the bad guys just keep coming, the thought enters my mind, “Sheesh, how many more dudes could there possibly be?”As Shadow, the challenges are much shorter (e.g. kill all the dudes in a warehouse and retrieve a card key), but there are no checkpoints. So you might have to lure and stealth kill as many as fifteen or so guys. If one of them kills you, you have to start over. If you’re an impatient, run and gun kind of player (like me), you might start to get frustrated. However, playi.
if you played the original dead to rights, this is a must have. i was a great fan of the original and this game as well. decent amount of time to go through the main story, trophies and my personal favorite the brutal nature of the hand-to-hand combat in the game. lots of guns to choose from, your dog is awesome just as before, it is a great game for the price with plenty of replay value.
Yep.This game I’ve been biding my time to play has made me wonder why I waited so long as it’s quite good and so little mention of it anywhere… I mean talk about being below the radar.I remember playing the first DTR on the playstation 1 or 2 (I don’t even remember) and that was just as fun as this was.The style is third person view with some gun shooting and at any point you can switch to a beat’em up style of game play.Very close to the Uncharted game play with a more robust melee combo system then Uncharted.And I like to think that Jack Slate could easily be a long lost brother of Nathan Drake from Uncharted as both have the same sense of justice and wisecracking (Nathan more so then Jack) habits with the added unfortunate ability to land in situations where violence is the only way out. (and they look alot alike)Jack would be more like let’s say the gritty cop drama a la Die Hard with the one line cussing and Nathan’s experience is easily compared to an Indiana Jones movie.Uncharted has better more polished graphics and that great movie feel to it, however DTR has combo breakers, counter attacks, disarms, and oh so needlessly violent takedowns…and Oh yeah a what? like hundred and fifty to two hundred pound attack wolf/dog at your command.If you like Uncharted you might need to check this out… and even if you don’t like Uncharted this might be more your style..so check it out…nowadays it’s nice and cheap too.

This game is a great follow up to the PS2 version. There is more violence and a lot more language! You can change the settings for the graphics, however not the language. We just turn it down. At one part of the game Shadow died and was revived however did not show up in the next chapter. Just a word of warning, do not continue or you won’t be able to play a chapter down the road where you need Shadow to penetrate a campsite. Dead to Rights PS2 also had issues with Shadow. I really like this game and would recommend it!

I had not played the first Dead to Rights, so this is my review of this game as it stands by itself and not the franchise as a whole. This is a review of the game from the playability aspect and not of the story. You can safely read my whole review and not have the story ruined at all. As I write this I have played it a couple of hours and will update this after I finish the whole game.Overview:You play as vice cop Jack Slate. Your job is to clean up Grant City. This game is mostly its a shooter with a different twist where your pet is a vicious fighting machine.Game mechanics:(+)If you ever played World Of Warcraft and played a hunter class you will be familiar with playing through your pet, (Shadow). This game takes that mechanic and builds on it by allowing you to control your pet with more “nuance”, the end result is that its not just about going in guns blazing. Instead you must anticipate how Shadow will respond to the environment and also the threats. Its a pretty cool mix of the ideas of combat. Of course as Jack you can do your own special moves .Shadow’s forms: (+)The cool thing is as Shadow you can play three different modes; one being a rogue like class where Shadow actually hunkers down and walks like a ninja dog, you know, if ninja dogs existed that is. Another one of his forms is a neutral fighter mode which is like a standard fighter class. The last form is the berserker form which is like all other berserker archetypal character. First off I truly am glad I went ahead and bought this, new and everything. Namco and Volatile really did a great job, get this and you’ll know. This game beautifully blends top notch third person shooting and jaw dropping close quarters combat and they do it in a way that keeps you on your toes, excited and begging for more. The classic noir setting fits perfectly with the engaging and memorable characters, story and dialogue, all these are also done perfectly. The voice overs of the main character (voiced by Peter Giles) are literally the BEST I’ve heard. I was blown away, his voice work for this game is something to behold all on it’s own. I’d like to keep it simple so here’s my break down:GAMEPLAY: FUN! Really fun the melee features tons of good combos and choreography and take downs are extremely gratifying, the shooting controls smoothly and headshots are juicy and the rag doll effects are entertaining and done well. Sneaking and killing as Shadow was fun, cute and hardcore.
