I’ve been a fan of the Deception series since the first one came out way back in 1996 and hasn’t been disappointed yet. However, the games have only ever catered to a niche market and never has garnered wide ranging appeal, which is a real disservice to the series and the gaming community.Deception IV, much like 1-3 on PS1 and Trapt on PS2, plays like an action puzzle game. You play as a demon that lives in an abandoned mansion on the far outskirts of town. Some people come after you in search of holy justice, some for glory, and some are just lost wanderers looking for refuge. Everyone is a target that you can take out. Instead of directly engaging them, you are given sets of traps that you can lay out to kill or trap the attackers. Traps can be chained together to increase damage and experience earned. With the experience you earn you can purchase new, more intricate, powerful, and/or sadistic traps. Rinse and repeat.Like most awesome puzzle games, the more you play it, the more you get addicted to it. I only wish they would go back to releasing games in this series more than once a console generation. Thank you Tecmo for not only making this game, but localizing it for the North American audience. I now have a reason to own a PS3!

this is a great game (to me) – while quite a unique style, it has provided hours of sinister enjoyment.-deception 4 requires a certain type of vigilance as you can get caught up anticipating your combos and in the excitement get killed by one of your intended victims. – time really flies when playing this game and there’s a lot of room to get imaginative with many, many traps.as you progress in skill you’ll find yourself pulling off larger and longer combos which lets you unlock more traps and abilities.you are the so called “witch” -the devil’s daughter with her 3 demon co-workers that every heroic warrior and ignorant villager is out to get.-some victims require their armor to be broken before they can be properly dispatched – leaving them in their underwear..-one in particular “paris” took forever finding the right setup to break her armor-at the same time trying to fend off a crazed God-inspired nun!i also liked the portentous music and loved the many different screams and cries of the mutilated and mangled.i’m now on a second playthrough and have passed about half the side missions -some of which have been extremely challenging.this is gratefully a continuing franchise (part of the tecmo’s deception line started way back on the ps1) and i’m hoping that theycontinue to provide this diabolical fun.

The formula for the game is that you are working for your father, the Devil to aid in his return by collecting the holy artifacts sealing him away. You do this by luring the owners to your castle and unleashing horrible traps to eliminate them.I’ve played one of the previous games in the series, so this was something I knew and remembered. A very enjoyable addition to the series. A+++

  4. Hunter Killer

Awesome plot for a hack and slash game

  5. Gadget Grimlin

This has to be one of the most original games I have played in awhile. It is basically a strategy RPG mixed with mouse trap…yes I am talking about the old board game. Your character, which I wont go into the details on, uses a combination of custom traps that link together and are used to defeat your opponent. These can range from a falling boulder, to a pumpkin falling on a targets head, to classic medieval weaponry. Overall very entertaining game, its a little lacking on the story, but hey its the gameplay that truly matters.

It’s a pretty sinister game, but I kind of dig that. Kill adventurers with traps in your castle, rinse, repeat. Fun gameplay.

  7. Y Chromosome 99

This game is AWESOME. Yeah, there are a few changes but one of em enhances your torturing enemies. You are the DEVEL’S daughter after all!! Side missions from your allies or rather, aids,as well and outfit changes once you earn them.

Jeje.
