This is one of those games that you really have to be in the mood to play, but that isn’t to say that you won’t have fun. This is a game where you set traps for the unfortunate souls that dare to attack you, all while you’re running around the same area. In the beginning (as in a lot of Japanese games) a great many concepts are tossed at you and it will feel overwhelming. However, there is a tutorial if you find yourself needing assistance and you will most likely learn a lot through trial and error. You’ll also quickly find out that you aren’t invincible, and even your own and the stage traps can hurt you. Of course, through experimentation you’ll know just how to use the stage to your advantage. Early on you are limited in the type and how many traps you can have out at once, so you have to plan a bit ahead although the game starts you off with some weak enemies with little to no resistances. Through fulfilling requests you gain specific experience and more cash that can be used to buy new traps and powers. I know, this sounds disconnected, but stick with me. There are three types of traps: Elaborate, Sadistic, and Humiliation. Each has advantages and disadvantages, and it is up to you, the player, to combine them in ways to crush your enemies (or just get a good laugh).Long story short, it’s a good game with a challenging element. Some people may find it addictive, but this is the type of game you can “overplay.” If you get in a groove that’s fine, but don’t play for hours.

If you got your start on the initial Deception series from Tecmo back in the 90’s you know what this game is about. Your trap and kill intruders to your castle with a variety of traps and set pieces in service to an evil power.Graphics could’ve used more polish, but its only apparent because htis was initially supposed to be a Vita only game. In hindsight this would’ve worked much better on that, as its to easy to rag on how rigid and stilted feeling the grid layout is when its blown up 50 times from the intended image size.Audio is good. I liked how language was standard to audio, rather than bringing in $50 worth of voice talent to laughably portray all the sidebar soldiers. I’m looking at you, Dynasty Warriors. Characters at least attempt to bring life to their characters for the few minutes they’re alive.Gameplay is enjoyable. While it can get tedious trying to get the timing perfect, it is worth it for the moment when you take a fully kitted foe, crush their armor, smash them to a pulp, then chuck them uncerimoniously into a cage for capture. While some of the requirements for this are a bit merciless, it does add elements of strategy and planning, and while you can annihilate one enemy, you do have to watch your back for the one sneaking up on you. the set pieces work well to, and its annoying but also nice that you can’t rely on being immune to friendly fire to save you. There are some rather annoying aspects, but mostly nits. The fact that they call your "Master.

Loved it. I’ve been playing the Deception series since the original appeared on the Playstation1 (aka Tecmo’s Deception). Before I bought Deception IV, I was worried that the developers wouldn’t be able to continue keeping the series interesting and fresh. Now that I’ve played through it I can say that my fears are gone and this game is a worthy addition to the series.

I’ve owned all the games so far in this line and when I found out there was a new one I got really excited but after playing it I wish I hadn’t bought it right away. It’s a good game but I feel like 39 or around it would have been better then paying what I did for the game. This game feels that want to just be as evil as you can, using the traps and finding the worst way for someone to die and then doing it. I still remember in one of the older ones (trapp I think) you had kids wander into the house and you can let them go or put them down. I flung them off a spring board into the fireplace, kind of a reverse Hansel and Gretel. But this game is very unique and worth at least playing once, just not for full price.

I had to choose between this version and vita version. They are identical I’d recommend the vita version because it plays on vita and ps tv. It doesn’t take much disk space either. The ps3 version doesn’t take a lot either if you don’t install the game to your system hard drive, my PS 3 system had low space but I could still play it. This game is probably the best in the series because every room has torture devices and mobile traps like enchanted objects and rides. and there’s over 120 traps you can build and get insane combos. The victims also lose armor and clothes in this one.
