Really enjoyed this book and movie. Having it on 4k is very cool

This film needs no further praise, hence the five star rating, but the 4K version has severe lip sync issues on the extended version. There are similar reports of this, and worse, on the AV sites. Stoppingrestarting playback temporarily resolves it but it obviously detracts from the overall experience. I haven’t tried the theatrical version yet, but the extended, though not the theatrical, version of “The Martian” in 4K has a brief audio dropout which is a minor issue compared to this. 4K is still new so perhaps some teething troubles are inevitable. retrolio is replacing this for me and this will hopefully resolve the issue. I do fear, however, that Sony might have to release an updated version…

I rate BLACK HAWK DOWN only below BAND OF BROTHERS as the best war dvd available (I don’t include SAVING PRIVATE RYAN because of the Hollywoodized, heavy-handed ending) for its accurate and graphic portrayal of combat.I have the 3-disc Deluxe edition, which I recommend over the 1-disc because it includes the History Channel’s THE TRUE STORY OF “BLACK HAWK DOWN” and PBS’ FRONTLINE: AMBUSH IN MOGADISHU. The tv versions give more information on the political situation which led to the battle (which are only briefly mentioned in the movie) and provide more accurate accounts of the battle (the movie had to change some details in order to fit the entire battle into the given time, make it easier for the movie audience to understand and dramatize certain events). The 3-disc set also includes features showing the enormous amounts of computer-generated special effects which are so realistic that I was unaware they were CGI (the first Black Hawk helicopter crashing is entirely CGI, the dust clouds during the helicopter landings are CGI, many of the explosions, etc. are also CGI).In response to some earlier reviews, here’s some clarifications:1. In the movie, Pvt. Blackburn is shown falling from the helicopter rope after the helicopter suddenly swerves to avoid a rocket-propelled grenade. This is a dramatized version–the dvd commentary by the real Sgt. Eversmann said there’s no real explanation for why Blackburn fell from the rope as Blackburn doesn’t remember although everyone remembe.

Excellent, well balanced, gritty combat of today.I don’t like war or taking antibiotics but sometimes they both are absolutely necessary. Black Hawk Down gives you a look into the reality of combat operations. While it is the all mighty US Military on an important mission, you see people just like you and me doing the best they can with what they’ve got. Like it often happens, the mission is screwed up from the top down. The top thinkers and planners did not do enough research on the hazards in this Somalia city and the little guys (combat troops) suffered for it. I think this movie has the best depiction of modern ground combat warfare while it also offers some insight as to “why” we go into these places and a look into the diversity of personalities that make up the mission teams. Some are strong “get the job done”, some are weak and want to puke and some are just spun out through the whole thing. I bought the video so I can sort of get a feel for what our combat troops have to live through in Iraq and Afghanistan (even though this is Somalia). It helped me to understand the importance of intervening to take out disgustingly corrupt rulers (they took the peoples food and just let them starve) but most of all I just love the thrill of ground combat strategies, and there is plenty of combat action. I highly recommend this movie to everybody, especially those who think fixing the world is so easy. Next time you catch some illness, try NOT taking your antibiotics and see how.

Yeah it is THAT good. The sound and picture are great especially when viewing on a 4K TV due to further upscaling. You’ll feel like your on the mission!
Don Lagerquist –
Great movie and a great 4k transfer. There’s grain but that’s purposeful. Crisp look and great range. Audio is also great.
Aaron –
Love this movie I’ve seen it a hundred times and it definitely gets better each time!
Sam –
This is hands down the best made war movie ever. EVER. They did it right. They stayed close to Mark Bowdens book and what actually went down. The Battle of Mogadishu or Day of The Rangers is vividly brought to life. Bravo Zulu.
KGS –
A good, not great, movie about Men in Combat. Unfortunately, the actors in the Ranger Battalion were not anything like real Army Rangers. The actors lacked the physical strength, mental toughness, and courage of real Army Rangers.

Has been one of my favorite all time movies, so when I saw this come out on 4k with HDR and Atmos, I had to pick it up and I’m very happy with the purchase. The HDR implemented is very good, you can almost feel the heat from the sun and the atmos addition is amazing as you can hear every minor thing off in the sides or helicopters above. Must buy for any 4k collection or anyone who loves these type of movies
