Disgaea is perhaps the best JRPG I’ve ever played. What I love is the number of classes available to you as well as a wealth of items which you can level up. The base story itself will easily take you at LEAST 30+ hours if you power through it and you’ll only need to “power level” your characters once or twice for that. But if you take the time to explore the item world, it will easily suck another 20-40 hours. And once you finish the game, (and performed the necessary in game check) the Etna Plus mode will open up which is significantly harder. Let’s put it this way, finishing the base game once only requires a level 100+ character. But the ultimate boss which is totally optional and only in the etna plus mode is level 9000+. All the additional Assembly worlds that can be unlocked are all optional.Again totally optional. I’ve logged 86 hours, and dragging the base game out and just unlocked the Angel class which is awesome but then there is also the Majin class which is still locked for me. (Check out )Its the perfect game to play for several 1+ hour in order to level up or do the item world and get more powerful.I really really want Disgaea 2 (Or any of the other Disgaea’s) to be released on the DS.

There’s no way around it: Disgaea DS takes some getting used to. The battle system, where you’ll spend the vast majority of your time, can be wonderfully complex, and the AI can tear you up if you’re not careful. For some, this may be frustrating (it was for me at first), but once you get the hang of it (as I eventually did), you can play for hours without getting bored. I’ve played around 30 hours, and I feel like I’ve only scratched the surface. There are very few, if any, games which can provide this much value, provided you have the patience to live through a couple growing pains. If you’ve enjoyed any similar games (such as Final Fantasy Tactics), I can almost guarantee you will love Disgaea DS even more, and it should be an instant buy.

After receiving Disgaea for the PS2 for Christmas, I had to get a copy to play while on the road. The DS version has a few more details added to it to enhance gameplay, (all good). Besides these, it is exactly like the PS2 version. If you don’t mind splitting the info in the game to two (2) screens, you will not notice the difference. I recommend setting aside ALOT of time for palying this RPG.

  6. Christopher Barrett

A great old game ported onto the DS. Though I recommend several other games over this (Castlevania Ecclesia, Final Fantasy (all), Bowser’s Story, Chrono Trigger, Dragon Quest 4 and 5) it is still a solid addition to the DS RPG lineup. If you like FF Tactics, check this one out but expect tons of quirkyness and hijinks!

  7. Carl A. Schulz IV

It’s amazing how much of the original game they managed to cram into the DS version. With the exception of some of the voice acting it’s all there. That said, it is a definite downgrade from other versions because of the size of the DS. Still an awesome game, but if given a choice between the DS version and the original PS2 version there is no contest.

am over fifty and fairly new to rpgs. ff4 to the world ends with you to chrono trigger, loved them all but was blown away by disgaea. the characters and story are fun but the abilities to create new characters then reincarnate them, and level up even weapons and armor keep the game endlessly fascinating. by the time you reach the end of the story the game is truly your own, and i couldnt wait to start over again using everything i had learned. i am addicted.

  9. Ian Moone

A friend recommended this game and he’s had a 99% success rate in suggesting games I might like. Glad I got it
