The original Ecco game was a perfect example of the graphical capabilities of the Sega Genesis. Unfortunately, the controls are rather stiff and the music tended to stress your nerves. The most striking characteristic was the sudden change from fun dolphin adventure to H. R. Giger inspired nightmare fuel. Ecco: The Tides of Time is a great sequel that improves upon the original’s ideas. Firstly the graphic are improved. The levels are far more diverse this time around. The music is also superior to the first game. There are more tracks that rarely repeat. Among the various improvements are the frankly bizarre story choices. Of corse, if you are already on board for time traveling dolphins then they are a delightfully odd experience. However, the only factor that hasn’t changed is the control. It is still very clunky and stiff making it hard to make fluid movements in confined space as well as some truly unforgiving moments later in the game. On the other hand, this installment focuses less on confined precision action than it’s predecessor. I would certainly recommend this game for any collector of Genesis games.

This is an avant-garde game with a great soundtrack. The opening music – I can’t believe they made that decision for a (supposed) kids game. You see this dolphin cover and think you’re going to play this cutesy dolphin game but then it gets seriously trippy quick. The puzzles are hard but you get infinity lives. I’m impressed with this game and it was developed by some obscure Hungarian company.

Dive into an aquatic world torn by an alien race known as the Foe who are bent of the colonization of the world by altering earths past. Travel to the past and future to set the stream of time right again. A truly amazing game for the Genesis hosting stereo sound and full length deep and mesmerizing sound track. Every Sega fan should try this game and I guarantee you will find a keeper. So what are you waiting for jump into the Tides of Time and live an adventure you wont soon forget.
