Equinox, or Solstice II is the SNES sequel to the NES game, Solstice. The best review with great pix that Ive seen of this game was done by Flyingomelette.I can tell you I agree with every word of that review & just add that I have had this game for over 10 years & due to life getting in the way I have never made it to the final dungeon. Its a tuff game to play but primarily because of the SNES 3D technology & as the review stated, sometimes you have to literally be pixel perfect to complete an action. But it is absolutely a fun & visually stunning game & the soundtrack is a pleasure. Sometimes Ill turn the game on & park the hero in a safe place & let the music just play in the background. ( Ive gotta figure out how to record it…)But this is probably my Super Mario or Legend of Zelda as far as video games are concerned. I think this is one of the great games of its time & I have not seen anything quite like it anywhere. You can get this game very cheap now on retrolio or Ebay, so if you have an SNES console in working order, dont let this game slip by without giving it a try. Youll be missing out on rare & unique game that just fell thru’ the cracks.

In my opinion, this is a very unique game. The gameplay, graphics and concept are interesting. And even though it can get a bit annoying sometimes, with the concept of a somewhat, one strike and your out set up, that’s one of the things that make it interesting. For instance, when in a boss battle, get hit ONCE and you have to start the battle all over again.Even though it might sound a bit annoying, I assure you it’s not that hard. It’s the same kid of concept with going through dungeons, in a room, if an enemy hits you, or you touch an item (such as spikes or falling gates) you have to restart that room. This concept makes for an interesting way of solving dungeon puzzles. Also, I should mention, the basic idea is that in each section of the overworld map, there’s a dungeon, you have to get all 12 tokens found throughout, and defeat the boss to move on. If you try to proceed over a bridge that let’s you go on to the next area before you clear the dungeon, you’ll be blocked by the spirit of the boss for that areas dungeon. It’s pretty basic, but fun!

I have not played this game since it came out in the 1990’s, so I’m working off very old memory. It came out three years after it was initially announced, but still had a MAJOR bug in it that forced you to restart the game after getting about 80% of the way through. Anyone starting out on this game should consult an Equinox guru, before getting halfway through, to learn how to avoid this problem. (This bug is the only reason why the game doesn’t get my fifth star.) Otherwise, Equinox is a huge, attractive, challenging, but not impossible 3-D dungeon romp. The ability to save every bit of progress you make is a great leap forward from its NES predecessor, Solstice, which, lacking this feature, is for platform aces only.Worth trying to find a copy.
