Absolutely Loved It!!!

This game is not a dating sim and it does not have much romance as I thought it would. It’s pretty much a visual novel about samurai in the 19th century. I was hoping we would be given more choices throughout the game, but majority of your time is spent reading. There are no puzzles or anything to spice things up, so it’s not like 999 on the DS. Not to say I didn’t enjoy Hakuoki, because it was interesting, but I guess I expected more of a romance game you get to micro-manage with plenty of options. There are some supernatural/fantasy plot twists in here having to do with Japanese folklore so it’s not just straight forward Shinsengumi stuff. I thought that was unique and fun to read through. I’m hoping someday we can get a good dating sim or otome game (with romance!) licensed in North America. So far the only ones I’ve ever played were fan-translated…

I bought a PSP just so I could play this game or read this book, what ever you want to call it! I pre-prdered the Limited Editon when popped up on the today’s deal page. I love reading, almost anyting, I love world history, and I love games, so this sounded like it would be worth ckecking into. Sooo now I am waiting for another one!

After years of waiting for an Otome game to cross the Pacific ocean to the US, Hakuoki is here. With visual novels being a rare commodity in America and GOOD games aimed specifically at girls being even rarer Hakuoki is a welcome addition to my video game collection. Is it a game that a guy could play? Sure. There is some romance, obviously. Think about it though, this is really just a romance between a male and female, and that is something that is often featured in ‘Men’s Entertainment’ as well. The adventure element (bloody, fighty adventure!) is a heavier element in the game than a lot of the romance which happens in the later half of the end of the game.If you are into nichey Japanese games, Visual Novels, Dating Sims, Otome games, or you just want to support female aimed video games…BE SURE to pick this game up! I know I want to see more games of this genre hitting the US in the future.

When I picked up my pre order copy on the 23rd, I could not put it down ever since! I only need one more ending, and this whole game was a fabulous adventure for me.I have never played a moving novel game, and this game made me fall in love!I love the beautiful art, the cutscenes, the story line, and I love how they kept the original Japanese voice overs. I have never played my PSP this much since 2008, and this game is just so wonderful. The music is peaceful relaxing and beautiful.I am so thankful I picked up the limited edition, because the artbook is just wonderful as well. After playing the game I know I must go and watch the anime, because the anime should be wonderful as well.

I absolutely LOVE this game. I played for days straight pretty much, going through all the story lines. I haven’t even completed it all yet!! I recommend this to anyone interested in romance and the time period. Historical romance! So much fun!!

I’ve got to be honest, I had no idea what I was really purchasing when I got this game. I had never heard the word otome or any of the other genre descriptors in the game’s description. I was, however, vaguely familiar with the story of the Shinsengumi and thought the art looked beautiful, so I picked it up. The game is essentially an illustrated choose your own adventure book, and it was incredible. I was initially turned off when I realized there wasn’t any actual gameplay, per se, but the story was engrossing enough that I found myself drawn in regardless. I loved this story. Beautiful, if sparse, artwork combined with an incredible story made me happy I’d taken a chance on this game. I can’t say that it necessarily made me a fan of the genre, as I don’t see myself paying $30-$40 for a game like this again, but I’m glad I had the experience of this story. If you don’t like to read, don’t buy this game. This is a book presented in a unique and compelling format, but it is not a game in any traditional sense. If however, you are an avid reader or fan of a well told story, and the idea of being able to interact directly with a story intrigues you, do purchase this game. You will not regret it.

I’ve been waiting years to have an otome visual novel released over here, so I’m definitely a bit positively biased right from the start. But lets face it…most gamers will know right off the bat if a “Video Game” known as a “visual novel” with drama and romance is something that they’re interested in, so I probably won’t be able to sell the idea of this game to anyone who isn’t already very interested.Ok so, there is a whole lot of text in this game, and quite a bit of this text is describing the politics of what’s going on around in the world of Hakuoki. The first playthrough took me a while, and I felt a bit overwhelmed by all the information and names/faces/groups to try and remember. But eventually all the characters became familar to me, along with their world. The second time around I actually read all the first few scenes again (now that I understood everything a bit better it made more sense to me). But after that 2nd read through I fast forwarded all previously read text by pressing the square button. This is an amazing feauture of this game, re-playing the game would be misery if it wasn’t for that magnificent little feature. I’ll make a decision and follow the game through to the end, but then later I can go back to that save file and select the other answer and fast forward through any text I may have already read when I chose the other option. Hakuoki also has a Quick Save and Quick Load feature that’s incredibly handy, it allows you to go back and change your.

I have never written a review for a product before, but I just have to throw in my support for this amazing game. The reviews were pretty good, and the box art looked nice (I have the Limited Edition) so I decided to take a chance on this. How bad could it be, right?Well, not only was it FAR from bad, but it just completely blew me away. First, let me say that this isn’t a game for everyone. I have to admit that it was strange to play a game that didn’t have any “gameplay”, aside from making choices. My only other experience with a “visual novel” type game was 999, and that had puzzles. The passive nature of the heroine may be a turnoff for some players as well.If you are the type of person that wants an option that says “stab the dude in the face”, this is not the game for you. However, the story was so well written that it kept me up well past my bedtime on many nights. It was bittersweet to see heroism in the face of fading tradition and the ugly backdrop of war. The characters- WOW! In the few games I have played that feature romance, there is usually only one character that appeals to me. The men of Hakuoki are so compelling and gorgeous, I really had a tough time choosing.(I still can’t decide who I like the best, though I am leaning towards Saito.) The character expressions were wonderfully drawn, and the voice acting marvelous. Is it normal to have so many sexy voices in one game? This is a serious question.I hope that the positive reception of this game will lead to.
