The engineering in this system is superb. As an engineer myself I can appreciate the dozens of little details in the system that had to have taken a lot of thought, time, and prototyping.First of all, the stackability. The boxes not only stack, but firmly fall into place so they don’t slide off. They also lock together. On cases with a lid, a convenient recess for placing a label tape is visible even when stacked tightly.Of course, stacked and locked together is great for transportation, but not for day to day use. This is where the racking system comes into play. Dead simple to assemble and very sturdy. I will say that that carrier brackets gave me a lot of trouble until I realized it was all operator error. Using the wrong tool for the job. It is difficult to get the bolt to engage the nut with an Allen wrench, even a a good size t-handle wrench. However, a Allen bit on a 12 inch extension bit attached to a drill does the trick with no problem – it allows you to hold the bracket in place with one hand and drive the bolt home with the other. So as I say, this was totally my issue and not the bracket design. I would like to see one small design change here, however: Graduated markings on the square tubing to allow easy alignment of a pair of brackets would be great. A tape measure works, but takes time and is difficult to manage while holding the bracket in place. If I was to build these again, I would lay out all the square tubing together and mark them with a.
The tough system line is worth every penny and then some. Dewalt is seriously ahead of the curve with everything they’re producing lately. It almost makes you forget it’s the same company as black and decker! I’m a carpenter by trade and I feel like I should get paid for advertising with how much of Dewalts tools are spread around my job sites, but you honestly can’t beat the quality. If you’re curious test it out. You won’t be disappointed
I am not a contractor, but a DIY weekender who uses his tools fairly frequently. I have used cheap tools my entire life but with the encouragement of my nephew’s (both of which are contractors) I finally bit the bullet and purchased just about the entire Dewalt 20v XR lineup about a year ago. After spending thousands of dollars, I needed a portable storage solution that would protect my new investment. I purchased the Dewalt Tough System dolly and several boxes to go with it. I liked it so much I purchased a second dolly and currently have about 12 of the boxes of different sizes. At first I was very satisfied with the purchase, but since then have had several mishaps that have made me question the amount of money I have spent on them and whether the durability matches the price! The first was the air vent that is on the top of the boxes. This vent is meant to equalize the pressure when traveling at different altitudes yet still keep the tools dry with the weatherproof seals. The first issue I had was when I left a couple of the boxes out in the rain. Even though these boxes are listed as weatherproof, the vents still managed to leak even though the vent on top was closed, luckily the box that leaked was one that only had hand tools in it so I was able to dry them out without too much ill effect, but if this box had contained some of the power tools it would have been a different story! The second issue I had with the vent is when it actually came off in my had whil.
I purchase this to use in the building of a portable rinse basin. Because of this, I won’t really be filling it with anything heavy for transport, just a portable electric pump and some tubes. There are small holes in each of the corners on the bottom to allow for liquids to drain so if you use it outdoors and it rains, it will automatically drain itself. For my purpose, I paired it with a basic battery powered water pump which allows me to wash my hands off or rinse out rags (I plug the corner holes with pencil erasers if I need to retain the water for some reason).I don’t own any of the other pieces of this system, however, for the cost and size, if you need a portable rinse basin sort of similar to a slop sink, pairing this thing with a portable water pump has worked really well for me.
I was skeptical. I thought the reviews for the stereo were overrated. No. The sound is beautiful. Clear top to bottom with plenty of low end. Not the cheapest bluetooth portable stereo, but the combination of best in class sound, the 12/20v Flexvolt charge/power integration, and the compatibility with the toughsystem, cases make this worth every penny. I regret not getting it sooner.Really…. The sound is the best portable system sound I’ve experienced. Better than monster, JBL, ION, etc period. I’m so so impressed.
UPDATE (4-26-2018): I dropped my review to 4 stars. The ToughSystem Music Player is still the best sounding jobsite radio I’ve ever heard, and one of the better outdoor speakers period, but… and it’s a big BUT: When the power cord is plugged in, the FM/AM radio reception drops by a couple bars. This doesn’t affect a strong, clear signal that much, but when you’re in a barn or shop, and you’ve got a station on that shows mid-level signal strength (but sounds good), plugging in the charger causes so much static that the music or talking can’t be heard. Going back to battery power fixes the problem, but that’s only a temporary fix.I’ve been extremely pleased with my ToughSystem Music Player. I use it in my barn/shop, and we take it with us to livestock shows several times each year. The sound is well balanced and you can definitely hear the sub in action. If Bose were to design a rugged jobsite speaker system, a little larger than a briefcase, this is what I would expect it to sound like. Obviously everyone has a different opinion of Bose, especially audiophiles, but for most people, most of their products offer a pleasing listening experience. As you can imagine, my music player gets exposed to a lot of dust. If the speaker grills start getting covered, I just blow them out with an air hose. The music player seems to handle moisture well, although I haven’t exposed it to an actual rain shower. We’ve had a few windy rain showers that blew rain in on the music play.
Best tool box storage system to date, love it, took out back seat to my king cab pickup truck installed this system ( nobody sits there, my tools are there anyway, why not orginize them ) , fits 6 box’s in height , can take out bottom box an the rest stay , as is often the case, what you need is ALWAYS on the bottom, now not a problem. very pleased with this Dewalt system .
i bought this coolier i would say a month ago or so. well i had a bad experieince with the shop and retrolio credited me $10 for the item being a week late from the original delivered date. so i was a little bummed about that but thats a whole another story and doesnt take away from the coolerwhen i purchased my cooler it was for 109. and with the credit i got from retrolio it was $99 with taxes included. now i see it on sale for $140? wow it seems like i got a great deal.i have used the cooler a few time and it is amazing for me. it feels very well built and it seems like it will last a very long time. i love the metal latches it uses to close the lid. they are so many things to say about this cooler that i made a youtube video lol hadnt made a video in years but theres not much info on it and i figured it would help some people looking.
I was on the fence on whether I actually needed one of these. I have (1) case on wheels, (3) medium cases, (1) Medium size open tub, (2) small cases, and (1) small case that has the compartments in it. I honestly initially did not see the value in this as I figured I would just stack the cases up, grabbed them when I needed them and so forth.Well, after three weeks of getting this installed and using it, I just got on my computer to order a second one. It is so much easier to grab the case I need, they look so much better hanging on the wall (and looks matter), plus you can actually open a case to access stuff inside while it is hanging. This is was huge plus. There is no set layout on where you attach the arms that the cases sit on. You have the flexibility to place them where you want to. Since I know I had more cases than it could handle, I opted to not leave a spot for the large unit with the wheels. Since it was already on wheels, it is easy enough to move around, plus it takes up the most room and attaches backwards, so accessing anything inside is difficult (it goes on backwards due to the handle that sticks out).I love the look of the cases all stacked up and can not wait until the 2nd one arrives. Now I just need to find wall space to mount it.Cheers!
(Hubby speaking)This just rocks, really it does. Basic stereo given new life. No matter where to stand and work around this unit you get the same quality sound. The price and quality of sound is something Bose can’t or wont even try to match for the price. the sound quality is solid from lows of the bass violin to the sweet highs of the piccolo This unit sounds emits outwards with wonderful clarity in 360% plus way. The price is really worth it. For those who work with Dewalt tools and enjoy the best of music, this is truly a find.PS it also charges batteries for Max 12 and 20 volt and can also run on those batteries and even keep your phone charged. At 17 pounds it has heft for the best of reasons. This unit is water resistant and not proof, meaning it can handle a brief rain shower as long as it’s not setting in the water above about an inch and a half when it’s sitting flat., the same for the dust. as long as it vent opening aren’t covered it should be good.
