I am not a contractor, but a DIY weekender who uses his tools fairly frequently. I have used cheap tools my entire life but with the encouragement of my nephew’s (both of which are contractors) I finally bit the bullet and purchased just about the entire Dewalt 20v XR lineup about a year ago. After spending thousands of dollars, I needed a portable storage solution that would protect my new investment. I purchased the Dewalt Tough System dolly and several boxes to go with it. I liked it so much I purchased a second dolly and currently have about 12 of the boxes of different sizes. At first I was very satisfied with the purchase, but since then have had several mishaps that have made me question the amount of money I have spent on them and whether the durability matches the price! The first was the air vent that is on the top of the boxes. This vent is meant to equalize the pressure when traveling at different altitudes yet still keep the tools dry with the weatherproof seals. The first issue I had was when I left a couple of the boxes out in the rain. Even though these boxes are listed as weatherproof, the vents still managed to leak even though the vent on top was closed, luckily the box that leaked was one that only had hand tools in it so I was able to dry them out without too much ill effect, but if this box had contained some of the power tools it would have been a different story! The second issue I had with the vent is when it actually came off in my had whil.
UPDATE (4-26-2018): I dropped my review to 4 stars. The ToughSystem Music Player is still the best sounding jobsite radio I’ve ever heard, and one of the better outdoor speakers period, but… and it’s a big BUT: When the power cord is plugged in, the FM/AM radio reception drops by a couple bars. This doesn’t affect a strong, clear signal that much, but when you’re in a barn or shop, and you’ve got a station on that shows mid-level signal strength (but sounds good), plugging in the charger causes so much static that the music or talking can’t be heard. Going back to battery power fixes the problem, but that’s only a temporary fix.I’ve been extremely pleased with my ToughSystem Music Player. I use it in my barn/shop, and we take it with us to livestock shows several times each year. The sound is well balanced and you can definitely hear the sub in action. If Bose were to design a rugged jobsite speaker system, a little larger than a briefcase, this is what I would expect it to sound like. Obviously everyone has a different opinion of Bose, especially audiophiles, but for most people, most of their products offer a pleasing listening experience. As you can imagine, my music player gets exposed to a lot of dust. If the speaker grills start getting covered, I just blow them out with an air hose. The music player seems to handle moisture well, although I haven’t exposed it to an actual rain shower. We’ve had a few windy rain showers that blew rain in on the music play.
Fantastic for getting a lot of tools and fasteners to the site in one trip. If you remodel indoors a lot though and have to get through doorways, maybe consider the tstak. I would still stick with this system. I lost it to a shop fire recently and bought the system again because I also do decks and outside work so I love the ability to easily traverse rough terrain but if I did only kitchens and bathrooms I’d get the tstak. And I’m not a dewalt lover. I have makita. But the drawer options with the dewalt gear is the way to go
UPDATE: purchased 6/13/18 front display stopped working 3 days before the one month retrolio return was up. I really wish we could say we dropped it from a ladder, or ran it over with a truck but the radio literally sat for 1 hour with nobody on the job, inside of a cool shaded house and the screen just up and stopped working by itself. I wish there was more of an explaination or a reason. We deffinetly got a defective unit, it makes me leery to have it replaced for fear it will do the same thing out of warranty. Only time will tell.ORIGINAL REVIEW: Wow, this thing pumps out the tunes for hours on end at max volume with a 5Ah battery. Bluetooth works great, and it really does a nice job of cleaning up the whole spectrum of sound. It gets the low end and the highs while still not missing the mids. I’m impressed. Now I want one. The only gripe I have is that the battery tray has a poor design. It doesn’t hold the battery firm enough to prevent it from disengaging the contacts when you set the radio down or move it in general. In my opinion, It should lock into the radio like it does with any other stand tool. Idk why dewalt did it this way.
Product nicely sized to hold various tools. Two negatives because I overload my boxes: compared to my similarly sized non-drawer regular old boxes, the overloaded weight makes the drawers and box seem fragile, awkward to handle, and less forgiving of splitting open from regular abuse on the job-site. Heck, my Festool and Ryobi boxes easily survived accidentally tumbling down stairs; no issues. These DeWalts won’t make it. 2nd issue: takes 3 or 4 attempts when closing for the locking latch to catch and click closed. Then you think you got it and… too many times I’ve picked the heavy box up, drawers explode open spewing it’s contents all over. Ha ha. Jokes on me. So I keep them in the truck for shelf-duty and use my old boxes on-site. So why bother buying them. Pain in the butt. There are better ‘Drawer’ boxes (Festool).
I purchased one of these even though there were negative reviews about the top drawer. I found the top drawer did not latch as anticipated by reading the reviews. The top drawer needed extra effort to get it to latch. After about ten time of getting into it it was fine. I purchase a second one and it did not exhibit this issue. I am please with my system. I can add more over time if I wish or stop here. These are great if you do not need a full tool box.
No pause or skip buttons for when your phone isn’t easy to access..Phones dont fit.Samsung s9+, LG4, iphones..Kinda defeats the purpose of that compartment.Great sound though, omg. Love the charger also.Says 100ft range but I can’t go more than the other side of an enclosed front porch with objects… outside my garage or even the other side of yard or out of the room down a hallway…… probably my phone.. but I do have an s9+ which is brand spanking new top of the line…
I waited many months for Dewalt to finally make these available. I purchased three, and have put them to use immediately. They aren’t quite like the "leaked " photos showed before the actual delivery as they don’t have a top handle. They do have the handles on the ends that also allow them to attach to Dewalts’ two wheel cart. They also have the yellow tabs that fasten to other Tough System items. The negatives for me is they aren’t as deep as I would like. They are about as tall as the Large Tough Box. I wish they were as deep as the Extra Large. The other negative is that without a lid, they are slightly deformed. The front bows inward, which shouldn’t cause any problems, but the back also bows inward, which might cause a problem fastening them to the cart. The price was reasonable, and delivery was fast. Two totes were packed in one box and arrived in good shape, but the third was boxed individually in a cheap, crappy box that allowed the tote to poke through. There wasn’t any damage to any of them, though. Good thing they are "Tough." All in all, I’m giving them four stars, and will probably be buying more in the future.
I got the ToughSystem 2.0 rolling toolbox, which fits all my power tools and is very sturdy with fairly large wheels. It fits a bandsaw, circular saw, sawzall, small hammer drill, impact drill, extra batteries, a charger, and a drill bit bag; plus the small parts tray. The locking mechanisms on it for attaching other modules is also much sturdier than previous ToughSystem.I also bought the 2 drawer tool box to stack on top of it. A little less sturdy but it still seems like it will do the job. It locks right on to the TS 2.0. I put all of my hand tools (dozens of pliers, screwdrivers, and wrenches) in one drawer and miscellaneous tools and other parts in the other. They open, roll, and close nicely. You cannot lock the drawers but you can put a padlock on the rolling toolbox.I wanted something to consolidate my tools and keep them mobile. This seems like a great solution. I will probably buy the parts organizer to stack on the very top for wire nuts, screws, etc. Everything I need right in one place, and easy to move around the job-site.
I am a house painter and got tired of going through a boombox every two years and being stuck with only radio and cd’s and with Spotify I can listen forever. This radio sounds great for the size and design, have not messed with tone settings at all but the bass is not just one tone and bluetooth range is alright. It mutes when I get a phone call and has a sturdy build.Something I don’t like it the storage lid is hard to close and would like a power outlet but can plug my phone in and charge a 20v. battery. At 200.00 a bit pricey but so far feel it is well worth it.
