I love Harvest Moon games, and have played every one since the Super Nintendo. I’ve always appreciated that the developers always kept the essential gameplay the same, but always tried to add new and exciting features into the mix. Sometimes it works, and sometimes it doesn’t.Happily, I feel that the "Mincraft-esque" addition of terraforming and terrascaping works well and adds to the enjoyment of the game. It’s a new feel of progress and control when you finally get your farm and the surrounding valley into just the size, shape, and configuration you want. This, blended with the time-tested Harvest Moon formula creates a great addition to the series.
In short: this is a fun farming simulator. It does have some pacing problems as well as a sometimes-confusing interface, but it is a pleasant, addictive story-based simulation with a clear focus on farming and caring for your land. The mechanics for farming and ranching are well-balanced, and the characters range on the simple side, but are cute and entertaining. The music is excellent, the graphics fair (and certainly fine for a 3DS game). It has a very different feel from prior Harvest Moons because of the change in developers; if you are looking for something utterly exactly like prior Harvest Moon games, buy other prior Harvest Moon games or wait for Story of Seasons, which is in fact the next "Bokujo Monogatari" by the prior Harvest Moon developer XSeed. If you don’t mind something with a different (but still very familiar feel) or are unfamiliar with the Harvest Moon series but enjoy non-violent, story based simulation games that are all-ages friendly, Harvest Moon: the Lost Valley will be a good game for you to pick up. If you are a Harvest Moon fan who is capable of being open minded and does not object to change, and you can set aside (understandable) frustration about Natsume holding onto the Harvest Moon trademark, I also recommend this game–just understand that it is different and adjust your expectations accordingly.Harvest Moon: the Lost Valley is a 3D game (as in, you can rotate around in 3D, it is not isometric) where you can edit your terrain in a qua.
In my opinion,Natsume made a pretty interesting game:D Sure, you’re unable to give gifts to people and you’re unable to enter the town, but other than that the game is good:) The story is interesting and it’s kinda cool that they tried to incorporate all of the characters into the story in some way:D The festivals seem fun and some of them are couple related, which some of my favorite Harvest Moon festivals from the older games were couple related festivals:D The npcs are kinda interesting and they seemed to have provided a couple nice bachelors/bachelorettes to chose from:) I chose April because she was kind ,I could relate to her shy interverted personality and I liked how she slowly opens up to you the higher you get up her chemistry:)Overall,I found it pretty enjoyable and I think that it would be potentially worth be given a try by any Harvest Moon fan:)
love this game its like having a farm and living life but on a video game.
I give this a 3.5. I don’t like how the camera moves on it’s own and the terrain is crap. The terrain problem can be solved with a ton of work but not the camera problem. 3D feature only works on start screen so this can really be considered a regular DS game. I also don’t like how the animal feed only lasts one day and that you cant go into tow and have to wait for specific days of the week. This along with the fact you can’t give gifts will make it harder to hook up with the guy/girl you want to marry in the game.
Even though this game is not "traditionally" harvest moon, and is created by a different company than past iterations, I’m liking it. Some of the changes to the game are for the better, like I’m quite pleased with the removal of gift-giving. The villager’s Chemistry level goes up when you talk to them or complete requests, which seems more realistic and less superficial, in my opinion. I’m enjoying the "Minecraft" style of play, even though I’ve never gotten into the Minecraft games themselves. It shakes things up a little, that’s for sure, and I find that planting crops and raising animals is relaxing with the right touch of being fast-paced.I docked this game a star because the characters could be more dynamic and interesting than they are, and because you can only raise three different types of animals. Also because there isn’t a village, and while I don’t mind that too much I do miss it. Oh well.Story of Seasons, coming out in the winter, will clearly be the superior game. It’s made by the same company, Marvelous Interactive, that’s made all of the previous Harvest Moon. They’re just called something different in Japan, which is why Natsume was able to use the Harvest Moon title to create their own game. Unlike a lot of people, I’m not going to sit down around and bash Natsume for creating a game. Marvelous Interactive is in it for the money just as much as Natsume is, and I’m happy enough to have this game to tide me over until Story of Seasons.
So to start off with I preordered this game. I only went off trailers as well as interviews. The main point of the game is that you must bring the seasons back to the valley, with the help of harvest sprites as well as the harvest goddess. I enjoyed the premise of the game since it requires you to build up the land as well as level it out. Of course some fish only appear in certain levels of terrain or some plants won’t grow. My only complaint would be, you really need a guide, and the quests need to be more worth while. If this is your first harvest moon game I would suggest it. If you think it looks to stupid don’t buy it. I would suggest Stardew Valley to everyone, but I would only suggest this game to those who are 100 % sure you would like it.
I should start off by saying that many of the negative reviews are from people who likely haven’t even played the game. You see, Natsume was once in charge of localizing the series of game most of us know as Harvest Moon. The franchise is well known and beloved, and no more so than the designers at Natsume. Even though they were no longer the ones to localize the games, they still owned the Harvest Moon name and this is what they decided to produceFirst of all there is (as far as I know) no village. This may be disconcerting, but there are still villagers The villagers are responsible for giving you requests, they run shops, you can marry one of three bachelors or bacholerettes. Gone is gift giving, gone is wandering around town and having to sacrifice your gardening time to shove a flower in some poor saps face three times a day. You’ll run across the villagers during your daily routines and raise your Chemistry(affection) level simply by talking to them. The story itself concerns the valley being frozen in a perpetual winter. You’ll be working your butt off to restore the seasons and trust me this is what the game does poorly. For about a year of in-game time you’ll see little more than the landscape of white that is winter and many players may simply give up and leave before seeing the energetic and vibrant colors of spring or the crisp hues of autumn. The pacing is off and if you’re not patient you’ll simply not see the best parts of the game. Adding to injury is the toute.
