If you’re looking a great SRPG for your PSP after you beat Final Fantasy Tactics, Jeanne D’ Arc is the game you’re looking for! This game is beautiful, a real masterpiece from the guys of Level 5, the history of this game is the well known history of Jeanne D’Arc, but this time you can add monsters and posesions to the formula and the history gets even better. The graphics are too good for the PSP (Better that the ones from Disgaea), as an RPG it has some pros and cons, maybe FFT and Disgaea has a lot of history and experience behind them as SRPG (Square Enix and Nippon Ichi aren’t noobs) but this is a great first try for Level 5, well, let’s see the pros and cons of this game:Pros: -Beautiful story and solid charachters.-Great anime cutscenes.-A very easy to understand gameplay.-The transformations mode add a lot of strategy to your battles.-The leveling system is easy to understand.-It has some sidequest that add more play-time to your quest. The colisseum is a tricky place if you want to beat it completely.-A lot of skills to use, and the combine system add some fun to it =P.Cons: -You can’t create charachters, only the history ones, but you’re plenty of them.-If you have an enemy at your side and you attack, you can’t move. To me a critical error. In most SRPG you can move and attack or attack and move.If you like SRPG’s this game is for you. And now you can buy it via PSN too!

Not much point in adding another 5 star review here, but figured I would do it anyway… For anyone that has ever played one of these turned-based 2D strategy games (FF Tactics, Tactics Ogre, Disgaea, Shining Force series, etc.), this may be the best one ever made. I am usually bored to tears by stories in RPGs and skip through them as fast as possible, but this one is succinct and compelling enough to keep me interested without getting bored. The battle system, probably simpler than FFT, is still pretty deep. Most characters are lumped into a “job” of sorts, mostly distinguished by their weapon (2-H axe-weilders are strong, lots of HP, but slow, 1-H sword users are faster, more versatile, but not as powerful, etc.). Characters are customizable by skill slots (up to 6 by the end of the game). The game is difficult, especially early on, without being cheap. As I got about 2/3 of the way into it, I started doing a lot of the “extra” battles, which leveled my characters and made the storyline battles quite a bit easier, but the battles were still fun.The only complaint I have is a forced missed character. At one point in the story you have to choose between two paths, and depending on which path you take you get 1 of 2 characters. You can never get the other without a second play through. These gimmicks for the sake of “replay value” bug me, since at this point in my life I usually can’t get through a game once, much less twice.Overall great game.

My little girl wanted this game because the hero was a girl. I watched her play this many times and played it for myself once she was done. I am not a big game person but I will admit I was hooked for a few days. I played an entire saturday away when I didn’t have anything to do. The story is really good for a PSP title and the game played like a chess type feel. If you like adventure games with a good story this is a good pick up.

This is a game I highly recommend if you are like me and love final fantasy tacticsish games. The dialogue and plot can be a bit cheesy at times…but overall, for a video game, its somewhat engaging. The real gem is is the gameplaying itself. I like the fact they are no specific classes more than anything, because it means less worrying about stats and more about the battles themselves. Highly recommend if you are anything like me, and really like games like final fantasy tactics!

Simple amazing game. I love the gameplay, it is unique to find this play style on psp. It builds a fantasy world where you are taking part in the history of the french 100 years war. It blends history with fantasy in such a beautiful way. The story is phenomenal. I loved every minute of this game and wish there was more like it.complexity 3/5graphics 5/5bots 4/5gameplay 5/5story 4/5overall 4.75/5age: 8+

Jeanne d’Arc is a great game. There, I said it.Let me start off by saying I am a Level 5 fan. I own several of their games (Dragon Quest VIII, Dark Chronicle (aka Dark Cloud 2), Rogue Galaxy, Professor Layton, …) and I love their attention to detail and all the little tweaks they put into their games. They always manage to put in a little extra that doesn’t really add a lot to the gameplay, but it gives the game a soul and makes you, the gamer, feel like they gave their all just to make it the best game ever. With that out of the way, Jeanne d’Arc revolves around the historical character of Joan of Arc, a young girl that lead the French to some victories during the 100-year War against the English. The game however does another take on these historical facts. Turns out previous to that great war, there was another war, the War of the Reapers, where humankind defeated a fiend and hordes of underlings. Five legendary knights, each with a holy armlet, lead mankind to victory. Now, one of these armlets comes into the possession of a smalltown girl named Jeanne. It not only gives her some amazing powers, but she also starts to hear voices. They are telling her to drive the English out of her country and so she sets out on a journey through medieval France.Jeanne d’Arc is a turn based strategic role playing game. Most of the time you’ll spend on grid like battlefields. During the player phase you move the characters in your party a number of squares, and either attack the enemy ph.

At the core this is just another Final Fantasy Tactics type game with turn based combat on a grid, but the game has managed to hold my interest more than any other of the genre. I am now at over 30 hours and stiil enjoying it. The game has some great cinematic cut scenes and the story is expansive if not always riveting. Has some good unique gameplay elements that add to strategy but generally it’s fairly easy to stay ahead of any difficulty by keeping players leveled and updating skills and equipment. Has been one of my favorite psp games.

  9. The Rock

The only reason this game gets a 4-star instead of 5-star is because of my extremely high standard. Having played timeless classic SRPG such as Fire of Emblem, Shining Force, Tactic Orge, Langrisser, and etc. Comparing to those games, this game certainly has no business standing among them. However, being a second-tier SRPG, this game certainly has its own features and characteristics that makes it worthwhile to play. Most of the things are pretty average about this game except a storyline that makes no sense at all. However, the skill creation and equipment system more than make up for the confusing story and turns it into something that is much more worthwhile to play.Another good thing about this game is that beating story mode is only half way through, with more challenging things awaiting ya. It took me 50 hours to beat the story mode and an additional hours to clear post-story mode including the 3rd season of Colosseum. Lots of preparation work were done to beat it, namely leveling up my teams to 95+ levels, visiting all the other free stages second time to get the best rewards of equipments and weapons, and visiting stage 7 of colossem to grind out some of the best weapons and skills cards. My final team of 5 was made up of Colet, Gilles, Rufus, Bartolomeo, and Richard and defeated the last stage of colosseum with breeze. To my surprise the main character Jeanne was relatively weak when you account for her growth status whereas Rufus sort of breaks the balance of this.

  10. Marcos

Perhaps the best SRPG for the PSP, Jeanne D’arc (Joan of Arc in French – thank you commenters!) is a RPG play off of the history of Joan of Arc, and is the story of a French peasant whose village is burned by the English and decides to wage her own war against the English. Her friends join the fight, and she finds others along the way that fight with her to liberate France.Set in the time of Joan of Arc, being an RPG it is obviously infused with many fantasy elements, such as magic (spells), the ability for Jeanne to “transform” herself via a mysterious bracelet she finds or rather chooses her (she herein becomes France’s “Savior”), and of course monster warriors that the English use as part of their army.STORY 8The story is not incredibly original, however, it uses the fantasy elements well to enhance it. It includes corruption on both sides – English and French, and other twists that make it engaging and never boring. The cut scenes are beautifully done – excellent graphics and sound, and are just enough that you never get the sense that there are too many.GRAPHICS 9The cut scenes graphics are beautifully animated. The rest of the game is played on the battlefield, looking at the world map, or from menus. I would have enjoyed the opportunity to enter the actual towns outside of battlefield play… instead, you can choose to “SHOP” which takes you to a menu where you can purchase items, weapons and spells from the town that you are occupying on the world map, which is typica.
