Came on the due date and as much as i love this remake, it does not hold a cradle to Lufia 2 Rise of the Sinistrals. It’s great that Tia stays with the party this time around and i absolutely love the character designs. Overall, 2.5 out of 5 stars for the gameplay, 3 out of 5 stars for the story and 5 out of 5 for the characters.

As my review title states, I can’t put this game down! I have played Lufia and the Fortress of Doom (got near the end of it but never beat it) and it was a fun game. Before I got into RPG’s Fortress of Doom was one of the first I had ever played and I was awful at it. Later after I had played about 100 RPG and action games (Final Fantasy games, .hack, Secret of Mana/Evermore, Prince of Persia, Dragon Quests, Kingdom Hearts, God of War etc. etc. too many to put here) I finally tried Fortress again and got really into it and only stopped when the dungeons became overwhelmingly confusing, I should probably play it again now that I’ve picked this up just to be thorough.I’ve had it a couple days now and can imagine the biggest reason people are cautious about buying the game is because it’s not turn based like the classic Rise of the Sinistrals is (or any other Lufia). This is true but that doesn’t make it boring or less of a game. Hack and Slash RPGs like this are just as fun as sitting there assigning commands and then watching them get carried out. There are still puzzles like the original to confuse you until you finally just get it, and although there is a +5 level up option if you die I would never use it, it’s just there for people who aren’t good at action RPG’s and want to play for storyline. Some of the ways you gain access to abilities is pretty silly (The doctor just randomly invents things like escape from dungeon button, and double jumping for your team) but s.

I loved the charcters as their interactions were very fun!the story is very intresting and idea of advanced and godlike beings coming to reset the growth of humanity and humans attampts to avert this fate my sound cliched but it’s done very well here! a true classic!

It took me a little bit to actually get into this game and even now I prefer to play it in short 10-30 minute bursts instead of the marathon gaming sessions I’m usually keen to. The story is probably the strongest point and will leave you engaged, laughing, and content as things progress. The action is a bit sloppy at times and generally leads to you taking a hefty amount of hits as you dole out your own. It all comes down to one button really, though there are a few ways to do varied special attacks. The only problem with the almost-one button fighting is that enemies will give you extra gold/xp if you beat on them after they die. So if a normal enemy takes 8 hits, you can double that to make 16 presses of the Y button just to dispatch one foe. It makes it so these short areas get a bit more drawn out. It’s not fun-crushingly horrible, but it is noticeable. That’s the only real flaw I can notice though, so pardon me while I go back to pummeling enemies with my least favorite-turned favorite character Tia!

As a hardcore RPG gamer, I tend to buy a lot of RPGs that hit the market. I might not finish them all at once with some taking months or even years to complete, but I do pick them all up eventually. Lufia: Curse of the Sinistrals is a game that I have had my eyes on for some time. Being that it’s a DS game, my wife would approve of the purchase because playing it means I can sit in the living room while she watches whatever it is she watches on the style channel. Lufia is actually an older franchise that had a couple successful games on the SNES console. This is actually a re-imagining of the game Lufia 2. How does this game fare in the first couple hours of gameplay? Hit the jump for my mini first impression of this DS game from Natsume.Lufia used to be a turned based RPG when it was on the Super Nintendo system. The guys at Natsume decided to do away with that and create a new system in the game. Gone are the turn based battles instead replaced with action platforming. You hit a button to swing your sword, another to do a special move, another to jump, etc. It works well in the game and my only complaint is actually that I’m not familiar with action platformers on a DS system. My hands are taking a little while to get used to it and I sometimes hit the wrong buttons due to lack of memorization and confusion of they keys. Nothing big but a hurdle nonetheless. The game is actually about a monster hunter name Maxim. He sets off to confront an evil god like creatur.
