I’ve read a bunch of reviews for this game, both positive & negative ones. Here’s a diehard Football fan and gamer’s point of view —This game is both wonderfully deep and frustrating at the same time. I’ve played the Madden series, both on PC and PS2 now for quite some time. What I love about this version is the incredible depth and playability. But it is flawed…as I’ve learned most games are. Here are some of my Good’s & Bad’s with Madden 2002: GOOD-All teams and rosters (mostly accurate (player ratings included)) including the Houstan Texans and NFL Europe Teams; Hidden Teams as well (All-Madden, SuperBowl, Creators, etc)-Franchise Mode — 30 Years of running your own team, from scratch if you chose (fantasy draft) is absolutely a dream. I’m currently in year 13 of my Franchise and am still loving every second of it.-Create-a-Player mode is deep and realistic. If you want the UberPlayer, you’ll pay for it. When creating a player in Franchise mode, he will cost a boatload of money if you make him that good.-Player progression — while sometimes frustrating it is as close to realistic as gaming can be. Yeah, you’ll draft some rookie that you think is going to rip it up and he may statistically, but may not show in his progress in the offseason. That’s a good thing, because for everyone of those guys there is a guy on your team that will progress beyond your belief (i’ve had DE’s go up +7 in one offseason – amazing).-Difficulty options — I’ve seen the re.

I’VE ALWAYS WANTED A FOOTBALL GAME THAT LETS ME CHOOSE THE STRIPES ON MY PLAYERS SOCKS,and thanks to madden,my dreams have come true.Hell,i can even color them flaming pink. After wasting a day accessorizing my players.I took my newfound day glo team to the gridiron where they and their pink socks got the crap knocked out of them by their cheeky uniforms, but rather the game’s realism. In fact,i’ve never had so much trouble scoring touchdowns in a video game as i did with this one. After many failed drives,i tried using my madden 2001 money plays to no avail in the fourth quarter i resorted to long bombs and twitch skills to break a long gainer or two,but that landed me a 28-14 defeat on the tough but fair all pro level.I realized to win i have to dig in my heels and use my head.I moved motion men to strengthen blocking, overloaded coverages with receivers, and kept the defense honest with balanced play calling. You know, genuine football strategy. If that jargon makes your head spin, don’t worry .A slick tutorial mode explains strategy, and you earn bonuses for learning. If that doesn’t help well, there’s always the arcadey rookie mode. The point is,there’s something for everyone at no expense to the gameplay.Madden 2002 is so deep,so gorgeous,so realistic and finally so fast, every football fan should own it.

Prepare to tweak the infamous Madden sliders for 30 days to find a realistic game, and then prepare to give up 6 months of your life to PS2 gaming! Once tweaked, it’s one heck of a good football game, particularly if you also own NCAA 2002 and can import your draft classes! I’d have to say it is the best football game I’ve ever owned.

I just got a PS2 along with my friends (adults) and we each went out and bought Madden 2002. Switching from PS1 to PS2 you see and hear the obvious differences. Madden 2002 looks a million times bettet than what I was used to on the old console. Players have hands for instance and the defensive backs actually tip balls. You actually see the football go into the receiver’s hands. This year you can actually block punts and even convert on-side kicks. The replays are a million times better. The ability to save games at any juncture is great. When tackles are made they look much more realistic. No more of those exagerated jukes by offensive players which I thought was a flaw in previous Madden’s.However, the defensive players do not have the speed to catch up to running backs or wide outs who break a tackle or make a running catch. Diving for tackles from behind is almost impossible. The announcing is annoying as ever but you can turn it off however when you do this you don’t hear the ref which blows particularly if you challenge the spot of the ball. Another problem is they tell you how long your punts are which I am interested in knowing. But the major drawback for me is that you can’t make custom plays anymore which was one of my favorite features. This game is far from perfect but graphically you’ll feel like you are watching an actual NFL game. If you are a Madden loyalist like myself it is must. You will have fun playing your friends. For each drawback there is.

This is the finest installment of Madden yet. The graphics are tremendous and beat the pants of NFL 2k2 for PS2. It is the most in depth game EA has released along its football line thus far and tradition fans will love the new realism it offers. Used to the old Madden style where you could score 100 points on All Madden using just 3 plays. Well this version has really boosted the difficulty level and on even the moderate level average gamers will struggle. This make the game more of a challenge and maybe you will actually lose a few games once in a while. But after a while you can learn what is necassary to really dominate and unlike past Maddens where running was key now it is passing so haveing a go to guy like Tony GOnzales on your team makes a huge difference. But anyway this game is outstanding! GO out and buy it!

When you first look at Madden 2002, you see that the graphics have received a bit of a touch up from last year’s version. EA is famous for adding new stats, brushing up on the graphics, adding one or two new features, and not much else. So why does this version blow the other away?First off, competition is what has brought EA to the forefront. One only has to look at what 989 did back then that brought EA to head of the class. The new competition by Sega Sports will make games better all around for ALL of us, no matter what company or game you’re devoted to. Anyway, the make-or-break area of any football game is control. Madden’s controls fit like an old glove, with new advancements that make them even better. It takes a while to get used to not hitting triangle to jump on defense to pick off a pass (L1 and R1 do the interception and swat away controls), but once you get them in your brain, along with the defensive swim and spin moves, you’ll grow right into the game. The responsive of the game is ultra-realistic, and you’ll find more momentum-based moves than you will on NFL2K2. Angles are much more important than last year, as taking the wrong angle will mean the difference between a 5 yard loss and a 55 yard TD run. The passing game is still the same, more or less, with route and receiver-based passing, and the running game requires more patience. When it works, though, you’ll sit back and marvel. The graphics are looking a bit better, but in the game you will AL.

I bought my PS2 primarily to play this beautiful game. I’ve been playing Madden since 2000 on the PC. It’s only been 2 years since that release, but there is very little resemblance between the two games. The evolution of Madden series onto the PS2 format is one of the most exciting things in sports video games. Here are the specifics:AI- There are AI slider settings for almost everything you’d want to control (off awareness, QB accuracy, def interception, kickoff length, etc). I find that the AI is extremely strong, especially the defensive players. One real treat this year is getting turnovers on defense. When you take control of the secondary, you can actually increase the chance of making a key interception. I love playing defense this year. One note, I only play on All-pro setting, because the speed ratings are almost meaningless on All-madden. Also, the default all-pro setting is too easy so I’ve had to do some extensive slider tweaking.Gameplay- Because of the extensive AI slider settings, you can make the gameply fit to whatever suits your style.Running game- One major problem I see is that running draw plays from the shotgun is a sure 3-4 yard loss. One critical improvement for next year would be an improved running game, where the RB can actually bounce off engaged blockers and make cutbacks. But for the most part, I love the running game because there is great depth. You have to master the intricacies in order to have a successful running attack. One oth.

Before reading this review, realize that I’ve not owned a system in ten years. Playstation’s consideration to those that bought the old system was what drove me to finally purchase one. That being said, Madden 2002 was my first game and when I put it in, my jaw hit the floor! The graphics are mind-blowing. The games can be played in numerous styles of camera movements, all of which edit and fade like a real television crew would do.The game play is very realistic. Other reviews have said how the passing, running and pass rush stuff is hard… and well, it is. Yet, that’s what makes it realistic. You have to practice at it. Unlike previous games, you can’t just throw passes into double coverage on a regular basis. You have to use pump-fakes, burn passes out of bounds, or hopefully you got Culpepper, Stewart or Vick and you can tuck and run.Just a little advice… play-calling on offense and defense… is everything. The game is awesome. The graphics are incredible. Even during play-calling the game never stops… it continues to show the huddle. Quarterback talking to receivers and backs about the previous play. Even showing the coach get [upset] about a dropped pass or a false start. The best part about the game though, graphics and realism aside, is the fact that you can redraft the entire league, create your own team and jerseys, sign players for contracts and enter franchise mode and build your team over numerous years. Watch players retire and draft new ones.Fin.

My expectations were very high for Madden 2002. After playing NCAA, I thought Madden would be unbelievable. At first the graphics and body motion blows you away. Clearly the graphics were improved from Madden 2001. Also they have more lines for the commentator and play-by-play man, John Madden is not as annoying as Madden 2001. And they keep the great franchise mode and allow you to create expansion teams. However, EA degraded some aspects of this game. First, you can no longer get a pash rush unless you blitz. Regardless of the pass rusher it is very difficult to beat the pass blocker. Also you cannot stop the run effectively unless you blitz. I am very disappointed that there are not more defenses. You cannot put 9 players in the box without putting in the goalline team. Also punting the ball is terrible in the game, it is way to difficult to get a decent punt. This is the NFL, punters can punt the ball 45-50 easy. And one aspect of this game that EA is lacking significantly is pass defense. EA will not be able to take this game to the next level until they figure out how to make pass defense realistic. They can start by not have the safeties burned deep on every deep ball. Also cornerbacks usually keep the receivers in front of them, but in this game receivers are behind them and cornerbacks usually get burned deep. It is way to easy to pass the ball in this game for the user and the computer, which is evident by the computer only running the ball 15 times a game. This gam.
