I know what most people are thinking, that Madden 2002 is simply last year’s version, rehashed and brought back for another year. On the contrary, theres a lot of new things to like about Madden 2002, and the usual things that made last year’s title so great.Graphically, EA has done a superb job here, with the players faces and uniforms being portrayed very very well. They look way more realistic than last year’s "we are space aliens who’ve come to earth and infiltrated your NFL players" looks. The coaches who hover about on the sidelines are the best looking of any football game to date. Heck even the snow looks nicer, it doesnt just fall, it blows in from the sides, as if it were really a blizzard out there. And yes, we finally have cheerleaders!!! Ea Sports’ addressed concerns about last years ballplayers being all the same size, so this year, players are noticibly more slender, while still having that football player build. Like NCAA 2002, it reads the clock on your PS2, so if you’re playing a game at night, it will start your game at night as well, or if you’re playing at dusk, with the sun going down, you may start the game with the sun up, but by the time the game is over, it’ll be dark. Little touches like this help to add realism to the game, theyre all over the place and it shows.Soundwise, its what you’d expect from a great title like this. A snazzy new opening kicks off most games, followed by player intros, at least from the home team. John Ma.

hanging out with Culpepper and Moss in a strip club in New Orleans after winning the super bowl. This game is the sickest thing to happen to the NFL since free agency. Okay so free agency …, but this game allows you to do it all. Heck, I might actually be able to guide the Deadskins, er I mean Redskins to a Superbowl with a fantasy draft or a few trades. Thanks Pat and John for wonderful commentary and realism.

I just got a PS2 along with my friends (adults) and we each went out and bought Madden 2002. Switching from PS1 to PS2 you see and hear the obvious differences. Madden 2002 looks a million times bettet than what I was used to on the old console. Players have hands for instance and the defensive backs actually tip balls. You actually see the football go into the receiver’s hands. This year you can actually block punts and even convert on-side kicks. The replays are a million times better. The ability to save games at any juncture is great. When tackles are made they look much more realistic. No more of those exagerated jukes by offensive players which I thought was a flaw in previous Madden’s.However, the defensive players do not have the speed to catch up to running backs or wide outs who break a tackle or make a running catch. Diving for tackles from behind is almost impossible. The announcing is annoying as ever but you can turn it off however when you do this you don’t hear the ref which blows particularly if you challenge the spot of the ball. Another problem is they tell you how long your punts are which I am interested in knowing. But the major drawback for me is that you can’t make custom plays anymore which was one of my favorite features. This game is far from perfect but graphically you’ll feel like you are watching an actual NFL game. If you are a Madden loyalist like myself it is must. You will have fun playing your friends. For each drawback there is.

I must say that they have out done themselves this time. This is the only game you need for the PS2. Not only is fun when you play the game by yourself, but get a friend that knows football and you will have classic battles that will have you keeping track of stats and records between the both of you. When you do play the game by yourself it gets really good when you create your own team from city, stadium, uniforms, players, etc. Then put your team in a season and/or franchise and coach and play for 30 years. The franchise mode is pretty deep and takes a lot of attention because you have to re-sign players, sign free agents and go through the draft. This is the best game for the PS2.

First – let me say that Madden 2002 does play very well. The graphics are great – this game is a lot of fun. I buy this game for the franchise mode, so this is really a review of that section of the game – and what needs to be improved for 2003!Injuries: What does it take to have one of your own players get injured? Not that I want them hurt – but the realism is gone when the whole league is suffering key injuries and all of my starters are in perfect health! Why even have back-ups? They never see any playing time. The Off-season needs some work. It seems, in previous versions, that the league would offer trades to you based on who you put on the trading block. I want that feature back! Trading here is really boring as you simply scan the whole league – waiting for the green bar to shoot up when the other team accepts your trade. How about teams trading with one another during the season?Free agency: This part is always fun but where are the superstars? They are simply always resigned by their current teams so there is never anyone out there worth bidding over. You rarely see anyone with a rating over 70 on the board. This feature needs to be deepened.Holdouts: I have yet to even see one-does this ever happen? The purpose of any game is to keep you coming back to play it over and over. EA needs to take out some of the monotony and put some more into Franchise mode. Perhaps, one year, we will see it happen.

With only a few slight problems, this is a very good game. Let’s start off with the good…-Madden Cards: These rock. I admit I felt the best NFL game was the NFL 2k series, until I played and used Madden Cards. The opportunity to use historic teams and players is a great idea! It adds a different element to the game which I enjoy.-NFL re-alignment: I really liked the fact that they included the new alignment for the 2002 season and beyond. the addition of the Houston Texans was cool, but I truly like being able to see what the league will look like next year.-Depth: This game has depth and then some. You not only draft players, you juggle the salary cap, sign free agents, re-sign current players, etc… I don’t see how much deeper you can go than this!-Graphics: Of course they are great! The movements are fluid, the bodies are realistic… everything a modern gamer could want in a football game. I do wish they showed more of the stadiums and I wish that, when you win the SuperBowl there was more of a celebration to it (more graphics and done in cinema mode would be cool) rather than simply being carted off the field, but these are minor things. The BAD…-Passing and Running: I’ve found passing is quite difficult and running seems to be quite easy. Maybe it’s just me, but I have a very hard time completing passes while I seem to run for over 200 yards/game on a regular basis.-Defensive line: The defensive line rush is almost non-existant. I usually play one of.

SInce ’92 madden titles have been coming out. I have been satisfied with all of them. Madden 2002 for the Playstation 2 is terrific. Having played last years version many times… I can find alot of improvement. I love the opening with the offense/defense introductions. It makes for a true football atmosphere. The announcing is above average when compared to other sports video games. The dynamic duo and ageless combo of Madden/Summeral is always good. There are some very accute details added in as well. There are shadows for late afternoon games covering the fields, and the players encouragement and dispair are displayed through their voices on field. What truly blew me away was the NFL Europe feature. You can be the galaxy.. and they have actual rosters. Michael Bishop is the quarterback. I was baffled by this. The gameplay is very realistic and is challenging on Pro. (although i just got the game) I am overall extremely happy and feel it was well worth the buy.

I’VE ALWAYS WANTED A FOOTBALL GAME THAT LETS ME CHOOSE THE STRIPES ON MY PLAYERS SOCKS,and thanks to madden,my dreams have come true.Hell,i can even color them flaming pink. After wasting a day accessorizing my players.I took my newfound day glo team to the gridiron where they and their pink socks got the crap knocked out of them by their cheeky uniforms, but rather the game’s realism. In fact,i’ve never had so much trouble scoring touchdowns in a video game as i did with this one. After many failed drives,i tried using my madden 2001 money plays to no avail in the fourth quarter i resorted to long bombs and twitch skills to break a long gainer or two,but that landed me a 28-14 defeat on the tough but fair all pro level.I realized to win i have to dig in my heels and use my head.I moved motion men to strengthen blocking, overloaded coverages with receivers, and kept the defense honest with balanced play calling. You know, genuine football strategy. If that jargon makes your head spin, don’t worry .A slick tutorial mode explains strategy, and you earn bonuses for learning. If that doesn’t help well, there’s always the arcadey rookie mode. The point is,there’s something for everyone at no expense to the gameplay.Madden 2002 is so deep,so gorgeous,so realistic and finally so fast, every football fan should own it.
