Prepare to tweak the infamous Madden sliders for 30 days to find a realistic game, and then prepare to give up 6 months of your life to PS2 gaming! Once tweaked, it’s one heck of a good football game, particularly if you also own NCAA 2002 and can import your draft classes! I’d have to say it is the best football game I’ve ever owned.

Ill keep it short with the pros and cons of this gamePros- Unbelievable graphics- Ability to modify a players attributes , example Garrison Hearst was ranked a 60 in the default mode but I made him a 90 since he is doing so well this season- Awesome instant replays-Create a player ( if you create lets say Tom Brady or Joe Montana, Pat Summeralll will actually say his last name during the game instead of just calling out his number )- Modify A.I, ( if your having trouble passing or running or getting a sack just modify the A.I to your ability, some people still don’t know that this is for)- Easy play , if you are having trouble passing turn on the easy pass mode and your player’s cursor will turn green whenever he is open-ConsTakes a while to really get a feel for the gameCertain things you have to really work at like not getting sacked, if you go back to far with your QB after a snap he will most likely get sacked, and some other little things-Punts are nearly impossible to run back!!!!!!!!!!Every punt the defenders get right by your blockers- If you land a deep pass its’ pretty impossible to run it all the way the computer will always catch up to you no matter how far you beat them by-Some of the ratings for the old school teams areridiculous, Emmit Smith was ranked a 74 on the 94 Cowboys, the 85 Giants had an overall defense of 81, What’s Up With That,Overall this game is great , especially if you are a big NFL fan like I am, for the more casual football fan I recommend NF.

this is a clear improvement over Madden 2k1… just the much, much better (less annoying) banter in the commentary is worth playing. everything else is all a bit better than Madden 2k1 but there are some areas i thought were well executed aside from having more lines than ‘it had too much POP!’there is a nice quick little tutorial to get you started. 2k2 now allows you to completely create AND play a team in franchise mode (you will need to replace one of the existing teams, though). there are situational games you can play to earn Madden cards (scoring the most TD’s in 2 mins, for example) which is fun if you want to just spend a few minutes sharpening up your skills. everything looks nicer and better animated.i want to defend the difficulty a bit… it does get hard in the passing game if you go beyond the easy play modes but i think the AI just tightens down their secondaries unless you have enough run plays (or short passes). however, i’ve got big, quick, good receivers (like Moss) who doesn’t seem to break away as often as i would imagine against slower and lower rated defenders (even subing positions to create mismatches). HOWEVER, even though my OL is rated 82, my running back (rated an ok 78 with a break tackle of 87 and 83 speed) gets stuff a lot even against weaker opponents.the AI also seemed to have these drives that other reviewers mentioned where nothing could stop them (i’ve got upper 90’s ratings in my corners and 80’s in my DL and Safeties)… and i’m talking.

SInce ’92 madden titles have been coming out. I have been satisfied with all of them. Madden 2002 for the Playstation 2 is terrific. Having played last years version many times… I can find alot of improvement. I love the opening with the offense/defense introductions. It makes for a true football atmosphere. The announcing is above average when compared to other sports video games. The dynamic duo and ageless combo of Madden/Summeral is always good. There are some very accute details added in as well. There are shadows for late afternoon games covering the fields, and the players encouragement and dispair are displayed through their voices on field. What truly blew me away was the NFL Europe feature. You can be the galaxy.. and they have actual rosters. Michael Bishop is the quarterback. I was baffled by this. The gameplay is very realistic and is challenging on Pro. (although i just got the game) I am overall extremely happy and feel it was well worth the buy.

Before reading this review, realize that I’ve not owned a system in ten years. Playstation’s consideration to those that bought the old system was what drove me to finally purchase one. That being said, Madden 2002 was my first game and when I put it in, my jaw hit the floor! The graphics are mind-blowing. The games can be played in numerous styles of camera movements, all of which edit and fade like a real television crew would do.The game play is very realistic. Other reviews have said how the passing, running and pass rush stuff is hard… and well, it is. Yet, that’s what makes it realistic. You have to practice at it. Unlike previous games, you can’t just throw passes into double coverage on a regular basis. You have to use pump-fakes, burn passes out of bounds, or hopefully you got Culpepper, Stewart or Vick and you can tuck and run.Just a little advice… play-calling on offense and defense… is everything. The game is awesome. The graphics are incredible. Even during play-calling the game never stops… it continues to show the huddle. Quarterback talking to receivers and backs about the previous play. Even showing the coach get [upset] about a dropped pass or a false start. The best part about the game though, graphics and realism aside, is the fact that you can redraft the entire league, create your own team and jerseys, sign players for contracts and enter franchise mode and build your team over numerous years. Watch players retire and draft new ones.Fin.

I love this game. It’s ultra-realistic (most of the time) and can teach you how to play football correctly. I like to see and hear Madden’s suggestions before I pick a play on offense for curiosity’s sake. I love the franchise mode, selection of plays (hit left and right buttons on some formations for even MORE plays!…WOW!).–CONS:The game cheats. Not just on All-Madden mode, either. Of course, the sliders and cheats are there to try to equal things out, but sometimes I’m cursing at the game for being unrealistic. I want a game that’s as close to real life football as possible.Scrambling Quaterbacks?I’m still fumbling the ball…and I’m using Kordell Stewart!!!! He NEVER fumbles, and he’s a great runner, but in Madden 2002 I can’t seem to get him to scramble and/or run successfully!Make custom plays? It would be cool if we could create custom plays. For example, the STEELERS have many trick plays and other plays designed especially for Kordell to run, but you can’t get that from this game.Reverses NEVER works for me.–All in all, though, I love this game, and keep playing it, but I still want something that’s closer to real life.

When you first look at Madden 2002, you see that the graphics have received a bit of a touch up from last year’s version. EA is famous for adding new stats, brushing up on the graphics, adding one or two new features, and not much else. So why does this version blow the other away?First off, competition is what has brought EA to the forefront. One only has to look at what 989 did back then that brought EA to head of the class. The new competition by Sega Sports will make games better all around for ALL of us, no matter what company or game you’re devoted to. Anyway, the make-or-break area of any football game is control. Madden’s controls fit like an old glove, with new advancements that make them even better. It takes a while to get used to not hitting triangle to jump on defense to pick off a pass (L1 and R1 do the interception and swat away controls), but once you get them in your brain, along with the defensive swim and spin moves, you’ll grow right into the game. The responsive of the game is ultra-realistic, and you’ll find more momentum-based moves than you will on NFL2K2. Angles are much more important than last year, as taking the wrong angle will mean the difference between a 5 yard loss and a 55 yard TD run. The passing game is still the same, more or less, with route and receiver-based passing, and the running game requires more patience. When it works, though, you’ll sit back and marvel. The graphics are looking a bit better, but in the game you will AL.

I was a fan of the madden series since Madden ’94 on the SNES. My favorite Madden game of all time is Madden 2000 for N64. When I got my PS2 I had only one game (GTA3) so I went to Blockbuster and rented 2 games every Friday for about a month. I rented Madden 2001 and I thought, "This is the same as Madden 2000 on my N64, but with better graphics." I felt no need to purchase it, I was content with my N64. When I played this game at a friend’s house I automatically bought it. It’s great, period. The computer does blatently cheat, but this problem plagues all of the football games. Also baseball games, but that is for another review. I would give this game a 5, if I could use my sacred N64 controller to play this. I keep fumbling with the controlls when trying to spin and whatnot, but, once again, I believe this is due to the 500+ hours of playing Madden 2000 on the 64 (I am serious when I say 500+, I got it in the beginning of the summer and played it non-stop until school started, sad but true, I still am trying to rebuild my social life.) If you are new to the series, I recommend this game. Also, instead of buying 2 more games for the PS2, buy yourself a 64 and get Madden 2000, because it is the greatest game ever, I mean that.
