A lot has been written about how much this game is missing. Things like EASHL and Drop-In (using a created player) have been left out, amongst other things. These things have already been mentioned, so I’ll only be reviewing gameplay. This is a fantastic entrance to next-gen hockey. I’ve been playing EA’s NHL series since the first one on Sega Genesis, "NHL Hockey" in 1992. Just last week, I upgraded to a PS4, and this is the game that I bought with it. The jump between the PS3 versions and this one are huge. The game plays a lot differently, in a good way. One of the first things I did was bump up the goalie reactions (in the sliders), because the goalies still give up a lot of soft goals on the default setting. The NBC presentation gives the impression that you’re watching a game on TV, especially if you use the ‘true broadcast’ camera angle.Yes, there are a lot of things missing from this game, and there’s no excuse for that. But what’s here is amazing. There hasn’t been a more immersive hockey game than NHL 15. Even if you choose to skip this game based on the things that are missing, I think you’ll agree that this game is a serious building block on what’s to come for hockey in this next generation of consoles, and it’s exciting!
