Pokemon Gold for Gameboy Color takes place several years after Red, Blue and Yellow, and puts the user into a brand new world, Johto. The gameplay is very similar to the previous games but with many improvements. These include new functions for the player’s Pokegear, a Pokedex that can now be sorted by evolution type and of course, many new Pokemon to catch and train! The objective of the game is to become the champion trainer, and try to complete the Pokedex. To become the champion, the player battles Gym Leaders to obtain various badges. Completing the Pokedex requires a different set of actions, and involves capturing wild Pokemon, battling various trainers to obtain money, and trading Pokemon with NPC’s and other players of Pokemon games.

This version of gold has a small watch battery that may need to be replaced if your save data is not working. I had to replace mine and it wasn’t too hard once you get the cartridge open, I ended up melting the plastic part of a balled point pen to unscrew it and it worked great!

I bought this game for my hubby and when we received this game it was great, but would not save. I was told I would get a new one, I did, my money back; I have not. And extra money returned for the inconvenience; I have not. So I’m posting this to warn everyone else: you buy this game and it doesn’t work, well you’re s.o.l. It’s not gonna get fixed.

This game sure is a classic, and still one of my favorite games from the Pokemon series. Not only was the game working perfectly when it arrived, but the seller also put in a new battery to make sure the saving function will last for a very long time again. This is a must for these GameBoy cartridges nowadays since by now many of the batteries in them are either dead or close to being dead. If you still have your GameBoy Color around and need an extra game for it, this game would be a wise purchase. Just be sure if the battery inside it is dead or not, if it is dead, replacing it isn’t too difficult.

If you are a Pokemon fan like myself, you may find yourself cringing at some of the more recent developments in the franchise and wistfully yearning for the feel and glorious story line of some of the older games. If so, this product is definitely for you! I received the product in a timely fashion and it arrived in as good a condition as one can hope from a used game (probably better). If you’re on the fence about purchasing this item, I would definitely recommend it.

Though the world expanded in this second installment, and as resistant to change as I am- I was overjoyed to find that the same storyline idea was followed, with the usual trials and wide array of new Pokemon only adding to the experience. This franchise will always hold a place in my life, especially these earlier generations.
