Z-Moves
Z-Moves are a new type of move in which the Trainer and Pokémon’s wishes combine to release their full power. These Z-Moves are moves of great power. But can only be use once per battle.
In order to use a Z-Move, a Trainer needs two items: a Z-Ring and a Z-Crystal. A Z-Ring is a band worn on a Trainer’s arm. A Z-Crystal must be set into the Z-Ring, and if a Pokémon holds a Z-Crystal of the same type, they will resonate with each other. If the Pokémon then knows a move corresponding to the Z-Crystal’s type, it will be able to use a Z-Move. All Pokémon can use Z-Moves, and there are Z-Moves for each of the 18 types. There are also Z-Moves that can only be use by specific Pokémon.
When use in battle, a Z-Move takes over the entire screen in a short, cinematic display.
Island challenge
The island challenge is a new mechanic introduce in Pokémon Sun. It is a rite in which players travel through the four islands of Alola with the goal of becoming the strongest Trainer, know as the island challenge champion. In order to complete the island challenge, players must overcome each island’s unique trials which may include. But are not limited to, finding items, completing tests of knowledge, and battling with Pokémon.
At the end of each island’s trial, the player will have to battle a Totem Pokémon. A Totem Pokémon is much larger than its species normally is and has a special aura that appears to aid it in battle, such as by raising its Defense. Totem Pokémon is battle in SOS Battles, where they summon ally Pokémon to participate alongside them.
The final trial on each island is a Pokémon battle with the island kahuna know as the grand trial. Successfully clearing the grand trial gives the player the right to move on to the next island in their challenge, conveying official recognition that the player has cleared all of the island’s trials.
In the past, after completing all grand trials, challengers would head to Mount Lanakila for a final trial where they have to defeat all four kahunas in a row in order to be acknowledge as an island challenge Champion. This has since been replace by the newly-found Pokémon League.
Each trial has a Trial Captain who provides guidance to trial-goers. All of the Captains are Trainers who undertook trials in their own island challenge a few years earlier.
Elite Four and Champion
During the course of the game, Professor Kukui wishes for the Alola region to have its own Pokémon League after seeing and challenging Kanto’s Pokémon League. The Alola League is completed right after the player completes all the trials of the four islands. The Elite Four can be battle in any order like previous games. The Elite Four members are Hala (Fighting)SM/Molayne (Steel)USUM, Olivia (Rock), Acerola (Ghost), and Kahili (Flying). As the Pokémon League was just found, it doesn’t have a reigning Champion. Instead the player battles Professor KukuiSM/HauUSUM instead.
Poké Rides
Poké Rides are a new feature whereby players can call on the services of certain Pokémon in order to access areas that they would not have been able to access on their own. These Pokémon are not part of the player’s team, but they may be call on at any time. Festival Plaza allows players to see other people playing near them, or other players that connect to the internet to battle or trade. By talking to people and listening to their requests in Festival Plaza, players can receive Festival Coins. Festival Coins can be spent on stores in the plaza, and eventually rank up their Plaza.
Poké Pelago
Poké Pelago is a new feature that allows Pokémon that are store in a PC Box to explore a variety of isles, play on athletic equipment, and enjoy other fun activities. The various islands allow the player’s Pokémon to gather items, discover wild Pokémon, and even raise Pokémon levels and stats.
Pokémon
81 new Pokémon was introduce for Sun, bringing the total from 721 to 802.
It’s a pretty nice game all things considered, be aware that once you get pretty far in your character basically becomes Lillie’s support character as she undergoes A LOT of development. The face your character makes (a blank smile) is all she’ll do in cutscenes aside from standing there and not moving with the rest of the cast until the scene ends and you move her around again for roughly 97% of the game. Don’t think this is a deal breaker for a decent Pokemon title, it seems awkward and almost so much so to the point of comedy. And you will collect ALL OF THE CRYSTALS, man are there a lot!
Four Star

Veteran Trainer Review.
I’ve been playing pokemon for 20 years now, and every game that has come out has been beautifully amazing. The only gripe I have with these gen 7 games is the fact that not all Megastones are available and the ones that are unavailable will be obtained via events or online competitions. This does annoy me greatly. Equally as annoying is if you have an older 3DS this game loads up much slower than it would on a New 3DS. Sometimes it takes a while to even shut the game off. So if you want to play this I do recommend getting a NEW 3DS to play it on, it’ll be a lot less slow running.Though beyond that the battles are harder, the graphics are gorgeous, the cut scenes are amazing, and I’m just blown away by this game. Though if you’re looking to relive your nostalgia for the good old days (Red and Blue) this game is probably not for you mostly because Gyms have been eliminated and in it’s place is Trials. If you’re looking to relive the old days I suggest buying the virtual console in the eShop rather than buy this game. This also applies to players coming to this game via Pokemon GO, do remember if this is your first Pokemon game do not expect it to operate in the same way that Go does. Though I do hope you give this game a try, the core series is definitely the better of the Pokemon games in my humble opinion.I cannot wait to see what they have in store for us next. <3
As described, quick delivery.
As described
While I grew up with the original 1st Generation Pokémon games, I had lost interest in the series just after Gen. 3. This was around the time I headed off to college, so I didn’t have as much time for video games as I did while in high school. Fast forward to the 20th anniversary of Pokémon and the release of Pokémon Sun and Moon. There were plenty of legendary Pokémon being given out at the time, so I found it was as good a time as any to get back into the series.A lot had changed since I left, and Pokémon Sun carried over plenty of these changes. I appreciated a lot of these tweaks, including the removal of HMs and unlimited-use TMs. And while adjusting the “experience share” to give experience to all the Pokémon in my team made the game a little easier, it also reduced the amount of grind that I’d need to perform to progress. Additionally, the online capability of these newer games meant that I could easily fill out my Pokédex without having to track down a friend who had all the Pokémon I was missing. I’ll also admit that the “Alola variant” of many Gen 1 Pokémon was a nice touch of modified nostalgia. However, there were some things that I found a little lackluster or irritating. While the story was pretty good, there wasn’t much to do after I completed the game, other than to complete the Pokédex. The fact that there wasn’t some form of a National Dex for all the legendaries I had gained through gift codes was a bit disappointing, as there was no impetus for me to truly “collect them all.” And while the Z-move mechanic was a neat and flashy addition, having to sit through the animation for them each and every time I used them became tedious by the end.An enjoyable adventure, despite a few minor weaknesses, I give Pokémon Sun 4.0 stars out of 5.

As an original Pokemon player, I’ve grown and experienced it all. And while it’ll be easy to simply say Sun and Moon have completely departed from the series and created something revolutionary and new like Nintendo has tried to market this generation as, that simply is not the case. Yes things feel fresh up to a point; there are no gyms, no established Elite Four, and a few other minor differences, but at the core of it you still are going from city to city challenging trainers to battles. This is what Pokemon is at it’s core. You can call it Island Challenges if you want, but they are still Gym battles. The biggest inclusion are the Z Moves which function as a last ditch super power up move. We see this in many games, but not yet in Pokemon, at least not until this year.Pokemon Sun and Moon are great games that are great games because it follows the traditional formula which made Pokemon a household name. All they did was simply tweak the names and paths you go through and that is how it feels fresh. Game Freak has had a successful track record and this generation continues it.
