I gotta start out saying for a series that has went completely under the radar for me but has been out for a while!? I can’t believe this is my first Shantae game!! Mind from what I’ve looked into it is actually one of the best Shantae games they’ve made! And WayForward entertainement should be commended for keeping the Metroid vania formula Alice in this generation of gaming!! You travel from island to island fighting baddies and solving puzzles in order to advance on you’re quest with Risky Boots (which is actually a villain in past games and kind of even in this one, no spoilers) but she and Shantae team up to fight the Darkness spreading across the land which is her former captain dead and in the grave but spreading his darkness from the grave with the power of genie magic! Not to get right into the story but just the fundamental basics of what the game has to offer!! The story is so so very cliche but also hilarious at the same time and something to be expected while playing this game! The amount of humour between NPC characters and the writing alone is worth the buying price! Not to mention the amazing sound track that was composed by Jake Kaufman is LEGENDARY! And I say that in all seriousness!! People out there that know his work or love killer catchy game music!? This is the game!So with out a doubt if you’re looking for that Castleroid/Metroidvania type of game vibe with excellent platforming, amazing music/ and fun and at times challenging gameplay as far as the pla.

Great game! The platforming is stellar, level design and visuals are attractive, and the metroid-style upgrade system adds a lot of replay-ability and paces the game’s progress perfectly. This is one of the few games where I actually used the 3D effect throughout the entire game – it added some great levels of parallax scrolling and added good depth to the 2D scenes. Took me about 9 hours to beat (although I didn’t collect all the squids/hidden items). Going to go back and beat it in pirate mode next.

According to my brother this is one of the best games he’s ever played and was so happy when I gather it for him. About time this got a tangible release after so many years from the original.

Un juego de plataformas más que genial, pero lo raro es ver que está pasando sin pena ni gloria, es seguro que con el tiempo, le pase lo mismo que al juego de gameboy color y que se baya a revalorizar.

I was first introduced to Shantae during the time of Mighty No.9 kickstarter campaign. I did not have any connection to Megaman at all in my gaming past so I looked at other projects during that time. I found two games that I wanted to fund: Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night and Shantae Half Genie Hero. I funded the Shantae game on looks alone I thought the environments and character designs were amazing. After funding the kickstarter project I thought I would try a Shantae game and see what they are like. I bought Shantae and the Pirate’s Curse off the Wii U virtual console and I was instantly hooked. The game had beautiful sprite work, great level design, funny writing, and plenty of nods to other video game classics through dialog and gameplay. After playing through the game I went back to the pledge page for Shantae Half Genie Hero and pledged more money just because I enjoyed my experience playing Pirate’s Curse. A little time went by and I saw that a few indie games I have enjoyed were getting physical releases like Azure Gunvolt games and Shantae and the Pirate’s Curse on the Nintendo 3DS. I cannot till you how fast I mashed that "buy item in 1-click" button on retrolio for this game. I now am going to enjoy a second play-through on the this physical copy of the game
