This game has more than met my expectations! I heard a lot of good things about it and decided to give it a try. I was hooked from the first cut scene. Just a fantastic side scrolling adventure game with a great sense of humor!

Must play for platformers

At first, going into this game I expected it to be a standard side-scrolling platformer, but boy was I wrong! Shantae and The Pirates Curse is a adventure-platformer that takes hints from well known series such as Metroid, and Castlevania; and executes them almost perfectly. If you’re a fan of genesis/snes/nes games, this game is a must play. It took me 12 hours to beat the game 100%, and I thoroughly enjoyed my time with it. TLDR: Just buy the game!

Un juego bastante entretenido, con buen reto, diseño y música; ampliamente recomendable para aquellos amantes del género de plataformas en versión portátil.

This game is just fantastic and I’m surprised it doesn’t show up in more "best of" lists. It’s mostly a platformer, but it requires you to really search for things and go back and forth thru different areas. So it has some puzzle solving aspects. Going back to previous levels is still fun because you unlock different things as the game goes on. I did get stuck a few times and had to look online for help. So it’s not perfect, but overall one of the best games I’ve ever played on a handheld. The 3D is OK, but could have been better. It still added to the game experience though. The story and dialog are ridiculous (in a good way) and it will make you laugh. Overall I would describe the game as "fun to play". It is visually fantastic as well. It’s hard not to mention the scantily dressed girls. They almost cross the line to being trashy, but not quite. I think it’s OK for kids to play.I would say it’s definitely one of the best 3DS games. Possibly a tie with Super Mario 3D Land as my overall favorite.

This is my first time playing a Shantae game and I’m absolutely loving it! The game itself is an action-platformer somewhat reminiscent of Castlevania. The levels can be revisited and delved further into as you progress through the game and unlock new abilities. Shantae herself is pretty hilarious and endearing as a character too. I don’t know if this is the best place to start with the series though since this game focuses on Shantae, not as a Genie (or half-genie) but rather as a human who is powered through pirate-based weapons and items. The boss fights aren’t necessarily difficult but the levels themselves do ramp up in difficulty somewhat erratically. I absolutely recommend this game in general, especially if you’re looking for a light-hearted action-platformer.

Very fun, retro style side scroller. Surprisingly challenging at times. Bright, colorful sprites and beautiful hand drawn characters in dialogue. Takes about 10-12 hours to beat from beginning to end. Worth a play through or a second play through.
