Snowboarding on sherbet? Some of the tracks you’ll find in SSX: Snowboard Supercross have broken from the traditional cool-blue snow color in favor of tropical snow cones. But this game sports more than just some crazy colors–it also contains a funky soundtrack that enhances the game as you wind around and through icebergs and freeway systems. Your success moves you up the rankings until you can call yourself the best on the mountain. This version of SSX features new graphical effects and controller feedback designed to capture the speed of your races and the massive air of your tricks.

Wow. There is one word that describes this game: Fun. I’ve been a video gamer since the Atari, Coleco Vision, and Intellivision days, and I’m struggling to think of a game that’s more fun to play than SSX. I can’t snowboard (not even close), and I’m not sure I even want to learn. All I want to do for the rest of my life is play this video game!First of all, the graphics are awesome. The trails left in the snow as you carve your way along look totally real. And the little snow tail that slides off the board as you jump — amazing! The venues are huge, with all sorts of ramps, rails, loops, and shortcuts for you to find and use (just wait til you see the last one).Even if you’re not into the whole competition/racing thing, there’s something for you. There’s a "Showoff" mode where it’s all about tricks. Throw some of your best moves (using almost every button the PS2 controlled has to offer) and see if you can beat the top score. There’s also a "Freestyle" mode where you can just have fun exploring the tracks. Trust me, there’s a lot to explore. And, if you’re just beginning or just want to practice some new tricks, there’s a "Warmup" mode with ramp after ramp for you to practice your jumps.Add to this eight riders (each with 50 tricks to perform), a number of different boards, four different outfits per rider, and different rider characteristics (speed, edging, tricks, stability) and you’ve got a game that’s not only fun to play, but dee.

Okay die hard gamers and parents looking for the perfect gift..listen up. SSX is the most jaw-droppping, thumb numbing, time forgetting racer ever created. The moment the game loaded..I was hooked. This game made my battle for the PS2 worth every agonizing minute! The graphics, the game play, the modes, the world circuit..what more could they do to make it better?? Most racers with a 2 player mode fade in comparison to a single unit..but SSX doesn’t dissappoint. Buy the game! Trust me..and get ready to be taken to another world of home video games! SSX is worth every penny.

As I was in my review of SMUGGLER’S RUN, I am in awe of the sheer magnitude that this new platform affords. Granted, there have been VERY few games that have taken advantage of that fact yet, but the thing was just born; let’s give it a little bit.THE TRACKS: The runs are huge. Right off the bat there are 2 runs you can try and one actually take 6-7 minutes. . . If you’re actually TRYING to get through. The more experience you build up, the longer and more interesting the runs get.OPTIONS: Again, the more experience you build up the better the options. From new clothes to new boards to a sliding performance scale that actually allows you to increase your own abilities with points.GRAPHICS: Don’t even get me started. From the box this thing looks more like a documentary than a video game. The colors are stunning and the speed is phenominal! If only more companies would put this kind of time and energy into their game playability, look and feel then the world would be one step closer to perfect. . . Okay, maybe not, but it might be a nice place to start. All in all, if you like snowboarding games even marginally, don’t bother renting this game; just buy it. It’s certainly well worth the initial cost and you’ll be pulling it out as long as you own your system.

SSX was one of the first games I bought for my playstation 2 and in my opinion it is still the best PS2 game out there. SSX is a great game for many reasons, it has spectacular graphics, you can perform a countless number of tricks and the race courses allow you to travel off course. SSX allows you to have a regular race or to race for stunt points. The regular races are fairly easy after you have played the game for a while but earning a gold medal in the stunt races it pretty hard. The game gives you alot of goals to shoot for, by winning races you can unlock new characters. Each charater also has a list of 40 different tricks that as you complete them you earn different outfits. The outfits aren’t anything spectacular but trying to complete all of the tricks is extremly difficult and will keep you playing for hours. Overall I think this game is a must have for any PS2 owner whether your a snowboarder or not.

Normally I abhor sports games. I was coerced into playing it the first time at a demo in a Best Buy, and was immediately hooked. The sound is beautiful, the different riders actually have personalities, the tricks make your jaw drop, and the courses are works of (sometime delusional) art. The moment I got my PS2, I had to have this game, and by far it has seen the most play-time. Replay value on this game is nearly never-ending.Some very minor problems are minor slow-downs (a rarity, and sometimes you aren’t even sure if it happened), and in large open areas the draw-in distance is a little closer than I’d like (for instance in Merqury City some buildings form out of thin air, and in Untracked the sky will turn into a mountain suddenly), but you only notice this if you’re watching and not playing (otherwise you’re too busy concentrating on doing insane tricks). The only downside is that I haven’t seen plans for a sequel. Were EA Sports to take the exact same engine (maybe tweaked a little for performance as mentioned above), put in some new courses, boards, characters, and music they could probably have the best-playing game in 2001 with the sequel just like they do in 2000 with the original.

Sorry if i wrote this review twice. I have always been a nintendo fan therefor hating ps2. But… i went to toys r us one day to buy diablo 2 (great game!) There was a long line so i decided to play ps2 on their tv’s. There was a sample disk in so i chose ssx my friend said it was good ( he had playstation) i decided to play it and prove him wrong. From the cover it looked liek a game with rocket motors and complete unrealism. I started a race and my stomach turned. I had never played somethign with these graphics before. It all semmed so real as if i was there. The controll is amazing and the commentary doesnt get annoying. after owning ps2 and ssx for awhile now I can tell you it gives a challenge but you soon get unbeatable. But when you think you are the best try it with a new kind of racer making the challenge never end. With interesting tricks and the ability to push people makes the game interesting… haha The amazing freedom and ability of where you go with hundreds of shortcuts and alternate routes gives it amazing replayability. If you are looking for speed and action get this game.Even if you arentr get it-Scott

I am really into THPS 2, and when I bought my PS2 and there was no THPS 2 I was depressed. I was looking for something similar to skateboarding, and I found SSX. I wanted to see how well the PS2 graphics and performance were and snowboarding is an all out extreme fest.I popped it in the console and was up and running in a matter of minutes. I was in awe at the graphics and the superior game play. I am now wetting my appetite for THPS on PS2 I can only imagine how great that will be.If you want to have fun and get a cool PS2 game this one is it. The only draw back but not bad enough that I would reduce a star rating is that it is only 2 person. If this had been a 4 player game that would have rocked.

Like many others, I got this title as a result of purchasing a PS2 Pack on retrolio.com. I’m more of a traditional sports fan; although I’ve played some games like this before, I would not have picked this one. Boy, did retrolio do me a favor! This game is definitely worth the price, even if you’ve never heard of snowboarding before.Your SSX experience starts by picking one of four characters to use. You can go through a guided practice session, where you can learn how to do simple moves, or you can proceed to one of the first two courses and participate in one of three events.Single-event mode lets you do all three things: Freeride, where you can explore the course and try out moves without being timed or competing; Showoff, where you try to compile the most points possible and finish in a certain amount of time; and Race, where you try to finish with the quickest time. You can compete against computer-controlled racers or against another player.World Circuit mode is where the action really begins. You compete in Showoff and Race mode against computer-controlled players. In Showoff mode, you have to exceed preset point values to earn a gold, silver, or bronze medal. In Race mode, you have to place in the top three in a quarterfinal and semifinal heat before you race for a medal. Winning a medal on a course unlocks the next course for the competition (there are six courses for Showoff and Race mode; the sixth course in each is unique, but the first five are common). If you win a.

First, I must say that the graphics and speed illusion on this game are out of this world. I watched a friend play this game and nearly got dizzy sitting on the couch! I have come late to the world of video games, but even I was having a blast playing this game after a run through the "warm-up" routine. You use every button on the controller, but just about any combination will produce a trick so it isn’t intimidating. The variety in this game should keep anyone busy for a long time to come. With eight tracks, eight riders, boards and outfits to unlock, and large trick books, it’s going to take quite a while to work through everything this game has to offer.
